Description

From the foreward of this 462 page textbook: "Dr. Verma's book has been divided into two parts because of the size of the manuscript. It is a totally different attempt to teach physics, and it will be extremely useful to the undergraduate students. The exposition of each concept is extremely lucid. In carefully formatted chapters, besides problems and short questions, a number of objective questions have also been included. This book can certainly be extremely useful not only as a textbook, but also for preparation of various competitive examinations." Y. R. Waghmare, Professor of Physics, IIT Kanpur Read more

  • Still very vivid - it is not easy to solve but worth a try - solutions are online in PDF
It has been over 12 years since I bought this book and over 8 when I finished both and put them down. I still very vividly remember each chapter, especially the second book.

  • like its sequel
This book, like its sequel, are very straight forward and to the point. The best way to describe them is a mix between a Schaum's Outline of Physics, and a typical (think Halliday/Resnick, Serway etc.) engineering physics book. Short explanations are followed by examples, then at the end of each chapter are tons of more "worked examples," and then three levels of problems sets- all with answers! ... show more

  • Review in relation to my career
This is one classic book for all the people who prepare for the toughest competitive exam in the world - The entrance to the IITs. This book forms a special mention because of its unique combination of ever lasting concepts of physics at one place, coupled with the simple diagramatical explanations to each problem. I am now a masters student and I still go back to this book to learn the ABCs of Physics. ... show more
