As a former owner of a Concept2 Rower, I was eager to believe this would be a good purchase. Luckily, my expectations have been surpassed. Due to overuse, height and fluctuating weight, I have some knee issues, as well as a disc and sciatic nerve issue in my back. Even the rower I had caused some problems with my knee. The option to avoid jogging (my former favorite exercise) has been invaluable. With the use of a stool or chair, I can literally do an hour of cardio without using my knee at all. Though if I rehab my knee enough - I can choose to engage it more. Which is what is great about this machine - it is very adaptable. My girlfriend has a torn rotator cuff and does not experience the pain she did when trying to use the rower. This product is mobile, light and like all other products from Concept2, very well built. Unlike the rower, the footprint is smaller if you have ceilings high enough - even with the stand and is ready to use at any time - requiring no setup. It's not as loud as the rower. I would strongly recommend this product to people who need or desire adaptive cardio. In many ways it is better than a recumbent bike, another one of my favorite machines for straightforward cardio - because it is adaptable and lighter. You can use this machine at any fitness level, unlike the rower, which is a bit much if you are very out of shape. I can't say this enough - this is the most adaptable piece of cardio equipment I have seen. You can stand, sit, kneel, alternate legs, arms etc...and get a good workout. You can choose to have a relaxing long sitting workout or go very intense. If you are looking for an indoor cardio workout, strongly consider this.

Wow is the first thing I can say about this machine. I've owned a Concept 2 rowing erg for close to 4 years now and it is a fantastic piece of equipment. I've wanted the SkiErg for a couple of years now and kept delaying pulling the trigger on ordering. I'm regretting that decision 1000%. This machine is absolutely amazing. The workout is tremendous and the perfect compliment to the rower. I would suggest viewing form videos either on Concept 2's site as it does take a bit to get used to the motion for someone that has never skied so as myself. I bought the base as well as the unit itself and found videos on installation and it was seamless and very easy. If you have a second person for a couple of steps it would be beneficial but not required. I did it myself with no help and took about 35 minutes or so. The videos are very clear step by step. In the machine being more vertical it honestly doesn't have that big of a footprint as far as storage other than of course needing to have the clearance for the height but honestly it's not even as tall as my rower when standing upright. The workout is fantastic as with the rower you can set your damper setting, stick with around 3-5 starting out and really watch your form and you will feel it. There are different ways of people doing it with the butterfly type motion which is popular in crossfit or essentially squatting more in the end portion which isn't the greatest form per videos but as a change of pace will really fry your legs. I honestly love this thing and so glad that I got it, cannot recommend enough.

This is the first review I’ve written in years, but I believe not enough people know about this amazing cardio machine and many can benefit from it. We excessively use our legs for all forms of cardio until our knees and ankles give out and this is a great alternative that everyone should look into. If you don’t have a strong upper body to start, you will also see major results on your back, triceps, and shoulders as an added benefit. For example if you run on the treadmill for 30 minutes, you probably shouldn’t follow it up with 30 minutes of jumping rope, or play basketball and damage your joints even if you have the energy and will power to do it. Or you work on your feet all day, this can be a great way to do cardio without much stress on your lower body joints. Here is 2 potential negatives that you can fix yourself. If you do a 10k almost everyday prepare to have blisters and calis on your hands. I tried all kinds of workout gloves but the breathable underarmour golf gloves worked the best and I highly recommend them. Second, don’t go all out as soon as you get this if your lower back muscles are not well trained. I highly recommend doing lower back extensions to strengthen your back if you’re going to use this everyday for 40-45 minutes. Also, buy the wooden base. Yeah it’s kinda expensive but do you really want to nail a workout machine that you pull with all your might everyday to the wall and potentially damage your property? I did and I’m very happy with it, plus I moved it around a few times as well. If anyone from Concept2 is reading this, here is a feature recommendation! Please add much more resistance so I can keep getting stronger while I do cardio. I even thought about adding a resistance band tot the handles to achieve this. Bow flex has something like that but their products are a bit gimmicky and I trust Concept2 more in the long run. For anyone considering the rower, that is a great machine as well but I totally prefer this. The rower involves the lower body quite a bit more and you have to use a cushioned seat to protect your tailbone. I hope this review helped someone who was desperately looking for an upper body cardio machine like me.
