This is a versatile unit that can be used to smoke foods and drinks. It's an active system with a blower that will pump smoke from the burning chamber thru a rubber tube to either a plastic shield for drinks and small containers or you can cover the item with plastic wrap and stick the hose under the wrap. The Blower unit uses 4 AAA batteries and the cover has a screw to secure it. A bit inconvenient to change batteries; considering that most devices now use rechargeable batteries. Other than that, the unit will stand on its own. There's a trigger on/off switch and a dial on the back to control the air flow. Simple to use and seems to work pretty well. The unit comes with 4 different wood chips, the size is similar to all the other smokers that I've used. There are also two chambers that can be installed into the unit. Things do get hot, so handle with caution. The hose is pretty flexible so you need to be careful that it doesn't get kinked when in use. I do like this unit vs the ones that sit on a glass as it does a much better job of filling the glass with smoke. I am also going to try and smoke some fish and meat to see how well that works.

When the item arrived it was dead out of the box. Nothing. Checked and rechecked everything several times with no results. This is a simple machine and shouldn't have this kind of problem. Returned it for an exchange and the replacement item was also dead. Zero quality control. Don't waste your time or money.

IMPORTANT: This product requires 4 AAA batteries and a standard-size Phillips-head screwdriver to use! If you’ve never used a smoker before, note that having some kind of candle lighter/matches are also required for general usage. I wish it were easier to gain access to the battery compartment: It is a bit inconvenient to unscrew the bottom (Phillips screw) to replace the batteries, too. As someone who works with electronics a lot, I happened to have 4 AAA batteries, a screwdriver kit, and a candle-lighter on-hand, but I think it must be emphasized for those who do not already have them. With that out of the way, this is a great product. The taste of the smoke is great for both the Irish whiskey and NY strip steak that I tested it on, and I also love the selection of flavors that come out of the box. I definitely see myself bringing this smoker to parties on several different occasions. The product produced a ton of smoke as expected. Each of the different, provided wood samples also produced smells and flavors exactly as promised, too. If you live in an apartment like me, do remember to open your windows so that the smoke can ventilate outdoors: You won’t want the fire alarm to set off! (Thankfully, that did not happen to me the entire time I was testing the product.) The included lid works great for creating smoked cocktails… I did notice that it did not produce smoke when I was using it initially, even after lighting up the wood with the lighter. It wasn’t until I allowed a proper airflow into a gap between the drink and the lid that it began to produce smoke. This wasn’t a major setback, though, because it still managed to produce more than enough smoke to provide the flavor I was looking for in the drink. Overall, I think this is a great product. I just wish that a modern kitchen tool like this, especially for its value, would have opted to use rechargeable AAA batteries, or alternatively allow the user to connect a cable to source power through a wall outlet/PC. That, and the battery compartment could have used a more convenient slide-off cover to access the compartment without a Phillips screwdriver.

I have another version of a drink smoker, which has the chips sitting on top of the drink and you use a blow torch. This is more of a “cold” smoke style since the smoke get created in the machine then travels through the tube. The result is no warming of your drink. In most cases, this is preferred. The fact that the smoke comes through the tube also makes it far more versatile. You could easily stick food in a bag, then stick the tube into the bag for some smoke flavor/effect in your food. The machine works well and the different flavors of smoke are fun. The difference is smell is not huge but is noticeable. The price at $40 seems about right.

I have really enjoyed owning this. It generates plenty of smoke and is easy to use. The chips it comes with have a great aroma and flavor. You'll need to experiment with how much smoke to use and which cocktails smoke well, but it won't take long. I do wish the disk was a little heavier so it would stay on the glass without me having to hold it, but if you position everything just right you'll find that sweet spot that will keep it on the glass fairly securely. If you get creative and have some food grade bubbles you can even make smoke bubbles for your drinks. I have been using the same set of batteries for quite some time, which is nice because I honestly thought this was rechargeable. It's by no means perfect, but I would recommend this to friends and family and I have no regrets in owning it.
