I had a hair coloring mishap (as one does) and dyed my hair pink, but the color I used didn't take evenly and turned into big pink splotches. I did several rounds of bleaching, color remover, tried adding more pink over it to even it out, and nothing worked. I ended up lifting my hair much lighter than I wanted and still had big pink splotches. My last resort to get the last of the pink out was to try this because it was darker and had pink in it and it worked! My hair is now one nice even dark rose gold blonde and I love it! My hair was also very soft after using it. It has a weird smell, but it goes away after 2-3 washes. I have very thick shoulder-length hair and I had just enough to do my whole head. I never wanted the orangey/copper colored hair. I have different levels of color, and the last 6 inches were bleached. I did a color remover, twice, before using this product. The color is very interesting. I am happy it did not go darker (glad I did a pre-color remover) It came out slightly redder then I expected, but it's not bad. I haven't done a wash yet, but I expect it to fade. My only issue was that my graying roots did not seem to get any color. But I plan on doing a root touch up next week. I think my crown didn't get the proper amount of time. Glad this order was 3 boxes! Smelled nice, no ammonia. I mixed in a bowl. You can also use a scale to measure 1:1 if you only need a small amount. As long as you don't mix it, the rest can be saved. I will be washing for first time in a day or two, so hopefully it wont fade right away. Supposed to last through 28 washes, but I will drop a star if it fades sooner. ... show more

Color is just as pictured and leaves your hair undamaged. Color is not what I would call believable but it's also not necessarily but a teenager a college kid would use and it's fine for a working professional. And it lasts longer on my hair than permanent color does.

Color turned out beautiful. I felt so pretty with this color. I understand that is not permanent color, but literally after 3 days it started fading. On the 4th day it was virtually almost gone. I now kniw what color I want though.

Being a Demi-permanent dye, I didn’t expect it to do anything crazy. I had auburn/strawberry blonde hair with gold ends before and used the Dark Rose color to dilute the gold and keep some red. It gave it slight pink undertones, which I expected and really love. It’s a fun twist on my naturally reddish color hair. My roots weren’t affected too much, but again, it’s a demi dye so not a huge issue. I left it on the upper hair about 20 mins, worked it down to the middle for another 10, then left on my ends for about 5-10 mins as my ends were more porous to begin with. (From previous baby lights bleaching) This product is also extremely gentle. My hair wasn’t dried out much at all, which is shocking as I have fine hair that dries out easily. I loved that this was a semi-permanent option so I could try something fun with lower risk and lower cost than the salon! Didn’t smell too terrible or burn, my scalp itched a little but I tend to have sensitive skin and it always feels like that at the salon too. The color itself is really pretty if you already have blonde/light hair (see my before pic). It did seem to stick to my natural virgin roots, but tough to say because they’re darker - but they did seem redder to me than they originally are. I left it on for the full 20 minutes and then rinsed and used the included conditioner. I didn’t wash until 24 hours after (with a color-safe sulfate-free shampoo) and while it did dull the color a little, it stayed pretty true. About 10 years ago, I almost exclusively used Natural Instincts to color my hair. What I remembered most about it is that it smelled fantastic, the colors were great, and the conditioner was top notch. Over time, I started using Revlon Colorsilk (to lighten my hair) then I would follow it up with Adore hair dye. (I still recommend that as a method for getting great color) As for Natural Instincts, this is not the product I remember! First of all, it didn't used to be a cream. Back in the day, it was quite runny... which is arguably an improvement, but I feel like I got better coverage back then. I have shoulder length hair right now and one box barely covered it. Secondly... it REALLY stinks now. It smells like an unholy combination of burst plastic and medicine. It used to genuinely smell delightful. I think that's the biggest disappointment. The conditioner smells great and the color was fine. Hence, the 3 stars. Sadly, though, it is no longer a 5-star product, which is what I would have given it a decade ago. ... show more

The color took darker than I expected but it's hard to tell from the pictures. The color lasted a pretty long time too. I think that I'll order another box of it.
