Edit: I’ve used this Demi-permanent dye a few times now. It is definitely saving my hair from box dye damage bc it isn’t nearly as strong as permanent hair dyes. I have noticed there is zero damage after using this. My hair feels soft and shiny after using it. I have noticed that when it fades it kind of loses its brown and turns a tiny bit green (on me) but I got this in a neutral dark brown color. If you get it in a warmer time it “might” get a little brassy. My natural color is pure white gray. This also happens with permanent dye so I wasn’t surprised. If it fades and I’m not ready to do a permanent dye I just give the top of my hair a few spritz of temporary hair dye spray in dark brown. I like Schwarzkopf in dark brown better than other brands I’ve tried. Getting Demi premier dye is worth it for me. I’m growing my hair out and need it to be as health as it can be so I don’t need frequent trims. I think the way it fades is going depend on the color you choose and what color you’re putting it over. I use this every other time I dye my hair to decrease the effects of box dye damage. The color is right and matches my permanent dye color. It does wash out and will fade like it’s supposed to over a couple of weeks. I don’t wash my hair often so it actually lasts longer for me. My hair is 100% white- gray naturally so I was worried it wouldn’t cover my roots. Bc I dye it dark brown those roots really show. But It does cover them. It makes them brown but not as dark brown as a permanent dye. Way better than pure white though. I just came back and ordered 3 more boxes because I’m happy with it.

My experience with hair coloring started with L’Oreal Preference. I was trying to find a shade that would look as natural as possible, and I experimented with different tones, but none of the dyes looked natural — there was always an orange undertone showing through. Then I decided to try Clairol 5C and, miracle! My hair looks as if it’s my natural color. Yes, the first time it comes out a little darker, but after the second wash the shade looks very natural. I always buy 2–4 boxes at once. Last month I ran out of dye and needed to color my hair urgently, so I bought L’Oreal Preference 5C — and again, the unwanted orange! That’s when I realized that the same shade number from different brands can look completely different. I ordered Clairol again (3 boxes) and I’m so happy with the result!

The perfect solution if you don’t have the time or money to get your hair professionally done! I like that it blends more naturally with my hair. Also my hair is so soft after using this it’s worth it for that alone. You do have to be careful when applying because it’s easy to spill and get everywhere. Have wipes at the ready so you can wipe all surfaces and face if need be.

This is the product I've used for years. Hope they never alter the ingredients as it provides very natural results. Great conditioner included. The no brass version 5C for medium brown is the best to cover gray and lasts a month.

Awesome toner

I purchased medium brown 5C to get rid of the orange in my diy highlights. I have dark brown Asian straight hair. I would say this medium brown is on the darker side. I did 45 minutes applied on stubborn roots only, added more onto shaft for 20 minutes, and combed through to ends for 5 minutes. Came out perfect. I should have done less time on shaft because it is a little darker than expected, but still looks good. I had been using permanent color for a long time but hate the root demarcation so after reading an article on Demi-permanent allowing the color to fade instead of the harsh line, I’m trying this for awhile to see how I like it.

If you are trying to cover greys - don’t use

Used as directed - did not cover greys at all. This is after very carefully sectioning off, ensuring that all the roots were done section by section- waiting the 20 minute timeframe, rinsing with only water as described and using the conditioner. I then blew dry and there was zero color on my roots.
