  • Well worth the money, easy to install and use
The media could not be loaded. I've been researching automatic coop doors for over a year. I decided on the Premium because of the autonomic locking feature and options. You can set it for light, timer or both. The actual LED box is sealed well with the included seal kit, easy to read and program. The light blinks every 30 seconds when closed and can be seen from 100 yards away so you know the door is closed without going out to the coop. You need to leave about an 1/8 of an inch space on each side of the door so it easily slides during operation, I would suggest using a level as I did to make sure you install it straight so the door doesn't bind. The door when closed was a few inches smaller than my original pop door but that was easily fixed but putting a 2x4 on the inside and cutting a piece to fit the outside and screwing them together. It was pretty easy to install but having another person to hold the door guides would have made it even easier. It's made of tough plastic and aluminum. It's lightweight but very sturdy and once it's all the way down nothing is getting in your coop. Make sure when setting it up, you let the little pin that the string is attached to go all the way down so the locking pins engage before hitting the stop button. The directions where easy to follow and set up was simple. I used 24 hour/military time to set mine so I didn't confuse am and pm. I have mine open at a set time in the morning to keep the girls in to lay and at night I used a combination of light sensor and set time incase it's overcast since mine is inside my run. I plan on purchasing another one for the run door to the pasture once I redo my run. It's a great piece of mind that my girls are secure for the night and I don't have to get up early to let them out anymore. The light will blink when the batteries need replaced and it stores your setting so you don't have to reprogram. You can get a power cord to plug in but the batteries last well over six months. I got the Premium because our winter temperatures get below zero but there is an Extreme model for even more harsh weather. These might seem expensive but you get what you pay for and I would recommend this setup for anyone who wants to keep their flock safe at night. I have coyotes, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, possums and weasels and none of them can get through this door. ... show more

  • Works Well, Clock is a Bit Slow
Works as expected. I have had this door for about 8 months now. The clock is a little slow, so I have my door set to specific times for opening and closing (8:30 am open and 7:30 pm close) and I do have to go out each month and set the clock to the correct time again. This works in cold weather! We've had many nights in the single digits here in SW Michigan and no issues with the door being stuck open or failing. We also had a storm where winds got the temp down to -20 and no issues with this door! I did have one incident where the door was stuck open, but it wasn't weather related. Make sure you install the track wide enough so the door doesn't get stuck halfway. In the summer, I set this to open at sunrise and close at sunset. My coop and run are completely predator-proofed, so I'm not worried about birds being caught outside as much in the summer. I have had two instances where a bird didn't get inside before the door closed, but the birds are young and learning. Definitely a good buy. ... show more

  • Warranty a little lazy but
Pros: This door has been SO AWESOME!!! I think I'd have to rehome my chickens if it weren't for the work this door does for me so I don't have to be at the chicken house early in the morning AND every evening. I've also heard that other doors chop chicken's heads off. This one does not chop off chicken heads; yay! My chickens stick their necks all the way out and wait till the door rests on top of their necks before drawing their heads inside their coop in the evenings. It is SUPER strange. But it has never hurt them a bit. The door just gets lifted a bit. The customer service is pretty good, too. In the US, I'm not really used to actually ever hearing back from warranty service or other product customer service departments. Chicken guard will actually get back to you with REAL people on the other end who are willing to email. You don't even have to play phone tag! My standards are so low at this point. Cons: The clock gets off time relatively quickly, so if you have the door set on a clock setting, you'll need to check it every few weeks to make sure the time is still set correctly. The rod on my door snapped off during the winter. It doesn't get too freezing where I am; the rod is just made of kind of cheap plastic. When I requested a replacement door, customer service, after emailing back and forth over a few weeks (in which the door was broken and I had to use gaff tape to try to fix the rod temporarily), the warranty folks mailed me a replacement rod. It took me about 3 hours to get supplies for being my own repair person, dismantle the whole door, take out the original rod, put in the replacement rod, reassemble the door, reinsert it back into the old door enclosure, then recalibrate the door. If I hadn't been unemployed at the time with free time on my hands, I would have been totally out of luck. So while the customer service and warranty does exist, it doesn't seem to come with a service department? I think if I had asked clearly, they probably would have sent me a new door. I just really wish they had told me ahead of time they were actually sending me a project that would take hours and required knowledge of how to disassemble and reassemble small mechanical devices with dozens of tiny, specific screw locations. Anyways it's the best thing out there and it is worth the money, and this is coming from a frugal person that doesn't have a lot of money in the first place. Just be clear with them if you don't have any time for being your own repair person should your door break down. I'm pretty sure they'd be nice about it. ... show more
