It's pretty hard not to love the Blackmagic Video Assist. Besides the obvious application as a video recorder and monitor it provides the ability to gather a bunch of information about whatever signal you input. This makes it an invaluable tool for live production technicians. I wouldn't show up at a camera op, projectionist, or video engineering call without this piece of tech in my case.     • Get's extremely hot!
I have an older one, they have changed it and the newer ones get extremely hot. Can't be good. I am talking burn your hand hot. If you are recording for a short amount of time it may be fine but for long length I would find something else next time.

When I received the box, it was a little crumpled with no cellophane. Not a huge deal. But then when I opened it, the item was obviously used. Not packed correctly, protective sleeve jammed underneath the monitor, the screen protector was on crooked with dirt underneath it, and dirt on the monitor itself. Scratches on the back where batteries slide in and out. And the wires were just tightly wound around themselves instead of neatly wrapped as if it was new. Asking for at least a partial refund.     • Audio problems with external mic on camera & other disappointing features
Not many features for such a high price. Device would not record audio from camera with external microphone connected to camera, only when no external mic was connected to camera with inferior wild sound provided. Dim display and chunky design makes me wonder why this would appeal to filmmakers, unless you really need onboard recording. I own multiple 5 Blackmagic Design camera and some of their other products, and this one is the most disappointing. ... show more
