I purchased 2 of these heaters specifically to use for a feral cat house as the mother is about to give birth and it’s 29 degrees outside and the description says safe to use with pets so they won’t get burned and one of the reviewers said it doesn’t get hot just warm so she uses it for her cats. But 250 degrees is definitely more than warm! It also mentioned using UL listed products. There may be some part in it, but this product is not UL listed at all.. The face of this heater gets to 250 very quickly and would definitely burn any person or animal that touched it. Reference: “An applied heat of 131 degrees Fahrenheit causes second-degree burns on exposed skin. Pain receptors overload and become numb at a temperature of 140 F. At 162 F, human tissue is destroyed on contact” It’s made from ABS which can be toxic when heated and there is absolutely no UL listing on the product, box, or paperwork. It also says it can be wall mounted but the back has a sticker that says “danger high temperature when operating”, would you really want that up against your wall? I am really upset. I really need to heat this space and this is the 3rd heater I have purchased that I would be afraid to leave unattended. I am so tired of all these companies claiming how safe their product is but when you get it you realize it’s not safe at all! Also it smells awful when you heat it up. There’s no way I would put this in a small enclosure with any kind of animal and especially not little kittens. They could be badly burned if they touched it. I have had it plugged in in my kitchen for about 15 minutes and the smell is making me feel nauseous. So aside from all the safety issues I wouldn’t put it in a small space for that reason too. I’m so disappointed and now I have to search for something else and wait again. The whole idea of a heater for chickens or pets is to leave it in during the night so they don’t freeze but there is no way I would leave this running overnight.

Great to keep my birds warm in winter

I bought this heater for my coop since we were expecting several nights of sub-freezing temperatures. I mounted it by the roosting bars hoping to take the edge off the cold for the hens overnight, but it puts our so little heat that I can't feel anything with my hand held up only a couple of feet in front of it. I could see maybe using it for chicks in a brooder if they could get right up to it for some heat, or maybe putting it RIGHT behind the water bell (I'm talking almost touching it) might help keep the water from freezing as fast, but in the coop I don't believe it was at all effective. As it turns out, fortunately, my girls are more cold hardy than I gave them credit for without the extra heat I had in mind to give them.

It seems to work pretty well so far. I put it near the water dish to keep it from freezing and to give the chickens a nice, warm spot to hang out. It isn't a constant heat though, so I will have to see how well it works during the upcoming series of -18C/0°F days we're looking forward to this week. Update: this product kept an unheated waterer thawed in an 8x4 coop down to 10°F when placed 6 inches from it (I mounted it to the door and put the food and water in front of it before I locked up). It couldn't keep up after that, but it was still about 10° warmer in the coop and my chickens remained active and happy. Now that the freeze is over I am using it for the brooder box and it works extremely well for that purpose. I'm increasing the stars to 5 because the performance meets or exceeds my expectation at the $30 price point.
