  • Great Value
Style: Highland Smoker
If you are comparing the pit barrel vs this one, there really is no comparison. The pit barrel is really small, the fire is difficult to access, and temp control is extremely unsteady. I had my first cook on this and it is light years better than my pit barrel. Also it is super easy to assemble, they actually label all the nuts and bolts! Not even an hour to assemble. This unit has a great firebox super easy to put wood in there and manage your fire. Ribs were the best I ever made the first time, you can put pans in the unit as well. Great Value if you can't afford 3K for a lone Star. ... show more

  • All that I thought it would be
Style: Highland Smoker
I have been looking at offset smokers for a few years and bought the Oklahoma Joe’s Highland because it seems to give you the most bang for the buck. If you have never used an offset smoker before I strongly suggest you watch a few YouTube videos on fire/smoke control. It is not as intuitive as you might think. If you are planning on buying a highland you will want to acquire a steel 6 gal bucket to collect your ashes during cleanup. After a month of use and a dozen cooks I am still very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Good for the money
Style: Highland Smoker
I'm actively seasoning the smoker now. All the paint is bubbling and looks like it will peel. Im going to put brisket on when the smoke is clean and we get back down to 275. Definitely wish I had bought the sealer strip before smoking today the smoke is leaking from the firebox terribly. I ordered it already and will put on for next time. Disappointed with the paint bubbling. Its going to rust out and won't last nearly as long as I was hoping with that. I think I was overzealous about how much fuel I needed to season because the smoke chamber is at 650 right now. Still I thought that the paint could handle seasoning, they should know this is the first thing we're going to do. So right now I'm Disappointed. I will update after the cook is done. Update: I've been using this guy for 6 or 8 cooks. It's a pita to maintain heat because it's a thin material. I'm still frustrated that the paint pealed. I'm pulling great TX style BBQ out of it though. I think you can do much better than this, but I also don't feel like paying for much better so for the money if you're willing to work at it this thing works great. I've been playing with the Temps and the thermometer installed is surprisingly accurate even with the terrible placement. Obviously, if you want clean smoke you're going to run a hot fire so the side closest to the firebox runs up to 75 degrees hotter than the chimney side. If you know this you can chose to rotate or not use that side. Worth the money in my opinion. ... show more

  • Great Design and Well Built But Packaging Is A Disaster
Style: Highland Smoker
Really nice smoker grill. Very well designed and heavy duty. But OH Joe's needs to have a better packing method at the plant. Mine was really banged up when I unpacked it. Paint scraped of the legs, inside, and some of the outside edges. One of the base legs was bent but I was able to straighten it back. OH Joe's doesn't warranty shipping or packing damage so be ready. ... show more

  • OH MY Goodness!!! Why did I wait
Style: Highland Smoker
Hi have smoked brisket for over 15 years with a cylander stand up type... ( like R2D2 ) lol And was nervous about this, but I learned quickly how to get the temps right.. There are a lot of Videos on youtube to help. The meat was NOT so dry as before... LOTS of great moisture in the meat. I smoked about 18 lbs of brisket... Go ahead and take the plunge, you will not be disapointed!! You will need to get a "gasket" for the lid... not tight enough.. although it worked for me... after it was clean and cool, I bought one and will use it next time. ... show more

  • Awesome Smoker Please get logo/serial plate to me asap.
Style: Highland Smoker
This smoker is awesome definitely what I wanted. Assembly was easy and you don't need 2 people to do as instructions say, if you are mechanically deficient you might want help. Only issue I have is the shipping looked a little rough. Nuts were out of package, styrofoam was beat up, the box looked like whomever used forklift had no clue whay the hell the were doing, and logo/serial number plate is busted. I would definitely like another plate because there 2 exposed holes that smoke will escape through. Other than that 5* but 3 until logo plate is sent. Update: Talked to customer service. They were pleasant and easy to deal with. Logo Plate is order and will shipped shortly. ... show more

  • Great priduct, but a few missing parts
Style: Highland Smoker
This is a great purchase and we can't wait to use it. My only compliant is that the sign is not secured completely on the front of the smoker and one of the pins and washers for the handle was missing when the product arrived,
