Pros: -It's good value for something like this. -All the pieces are metal, and I don't see any distinct weak points in the construction that are going to break. -No significant wind noise due to the aero design. -4 different styles of grabbing bars makes it fit most cars without having to buy a different order (less easy for them to ship the wrong model). Cons: -The instructions are pretty bad, so you kind of have to figure it out on your own. -One of the small metal cylinders was machined poorly on one side, so the screw didn't fit through the other end of it properly. My buddy had a tool to fix this, so it works great now, but you'd be SOL without a way of fixing that small piece. -There was slight bowing of the metal (a couple %). It didn't get any worse after hours on the road, so I'll update this if it gets actually bad in the future. I recommend running a strap through the car onto both sides of the bar just as a double-check. The grabbing fit isn't 100% on the sides, but it still holds solid. It's not worth losing your cargo and potentially wrecking someone behind you. ... show more

    • Worked fine eventually but could be better and needed a DIY safety addition.
When I first received the roof rack, one of the cross bars had a decent-sized nick in it. Not the end of the world. But when one of the lock cylinders actually fell out, that was concerning. Also, 1 of the 2 rubber strips for the bottom channel was short (thus making the cross bar susceptible to whistling) and 3 of the 4 locking mechanisms were very difficult to move. I contacted Amazon and they shipped a replacement set. On the replacement set, 1 of the 2 cross bars was dented and BOTH rubber strips were way too short to use. Fortunately, their locking mechanisms and lock cylinders were much better than the first set, so I was able to swap those out and cut some of the rubber to add to the channel strip. Once everything was satisfactory, I was able to actually use the roof rack and it performed well. One recommendation I would HIGHLY make if you're going to buy one is get some nylon lock nuts and washers to put on the end of the locking bolt, otherwise you're putting all of your faith in the knob not unscrewing as you drive. Carverton should REALLY consider adding some kind of fail-safe part to reduce this risk. ... show more

    • Very Solid Rooftop Carrier Bars Set
I was expecting to write a bad review here but I am very impressed with the bars' hardware quality, fairly intuitive installation and adjustment process and the dependable locking system. These bars fit my Audi sedan (no factory-mounted roof bars) perfectly. The assembly instructions are primitive but if you watch the videos and lay everything out and play with it, it becomes very logical as to how it works, how to select which of the four sets of roof rail clamps to use and how to mount everything in the best place on your vehicle's roof. Just set aside some time to experiment. I needed about an hour to get everything together, mounted and locked down. Also, good advice from a previous reviewer: add some nylon washers on each locking bolt so they don't loosen up...and tighten to "snug". I did that and I didn't have to do ANY tightening or other adjustments during my month-long 3,300 mile Pacific Coast trip. Bars are sturdy too, carrying my heavy Thule box without any squeaks or cracks or bending or sliding around. Probably helps that there is a rubber top-mounted strip that the cargo sits on. Racks and box did great together, even at 70+ mph freeway speeds. I had some wind noise at 25 mph and above but no rattling or shifting position on the roof. My advice...take your time for the assembly and installation processes. Price has dropped since I bought. I recommend this product. ... show more

    • Gets the job done.
It’s low quality but gets the job done. Don’t know how long it will last. Got it to fit my 2007 Honda Ridgeline. Take your time when installing. Make sure everything’s nice and secure . DO NOT over tighten the knobs they provide m. Slowly tighten them until you reach the torque when you feel them start to slip. ... show more

The reason for my 1 star rating is as followed. This rack says it, is supposed to fit on the roof of a 2021 GMC Serria 1500... After wasting over 2.5 hours and trying all of the combination plates, Their was no way to get it to mount correctly. So, I had to pack it up, fill out a return and travel 15 miles to a UPS Store, to return it.... Not very happy.. ... show more
