Very happy with these dumbbells, particularly for the cost. As far as the smell goes, yes, the rubber smell is strong at first. I took a bucket of water and Dawn dish soap and washed them, and it made a big difference. It's been a few days since I washed them and the smell is gone.

The product in itself is of good quality, very sturdy. My only problem was that I was missing the sets of 15lbs dumbbells and the 10lbs set. I’ve contacted Cap Barbell about the issue, I will post an update to let you guys know how their customer service was. UPDATE: I went to the Cap Barbell website and emailed their customer service, I received a reply within a few hours letting me know they would be shipping my missing items immediately. I received them about a week later. I’m very pleased with my purchase. The dumbbells are great quality, very sturdy, nice looking, and mine didn’t have any weird smell to them like others complained about. The stand they come with is also very nice and well made. I would recommend them to anybody looking to start their own home gym.

Update... The remainder of the shipment came the next day. CAP customer service had already reached out and asked for the tracking number to look into it. Bonus points for the prompt response. Pros: Great value. The weights alone are more expensive from other sellers, so the fact that these come with a rack is very convenient especially at the price range. My wife and I don't have a lot of space, so a compact vertical rack was ideal. Convenient storage. I like how convenient the vertical rack is. Cons: Packaging. Each package contained a combination of 50lbs of weights in a standard cardboard box with a small piece of cardboard between the weight. Some of the boxes had ripped open by the time they got here and weren't the easiest to handle. Small issues with rack. This is far from a deal-breaker, but the space where you put your hand to grab the weight is a bit narrow on the rack, which makes it a little inconvenient to pick up. The 25lb weights sit very close to the 20lb weights, so when you pick up the 25lb weights, they bump into the 20lb weights. Old Review... I ordered the 150lb set and the rack, but came home to just a pair of 25lb dumbbells. Contacted CAP customer service, will update with their response.

I use the reviews a lot in making my decision for purchase or not so I thought I would leave one for the set of dumbbells as I was initially very hesitant to purchase due to other reviews of the smell. It does take a couple weeks minimum for delivery as they come on a special truck with the amount of weight shipped. Delivery was great and the guys brought them right into the garage for me. The rack was easy to assemble, about an hour, although I am not sure what someone would do if they did not have a cresent wrench or box end wrench to tighten the bolts as they turn with just the alan wrench. I got all weight unboxed, total of 5 boxes delivered, and setup pretty easily. I was very pleasantly surprised that there is really little to no smell for the weights. Could have been an issue in the past but they seem to have gotten it corrected. Mine were also delivered without any marks or scratches that others noted. Looking forward to using them in the near future.

I was nervous to buy these because of the negative reviews, BUT I AM SO GLAD I DID!! 1. They all came on the same day, but 4 boxes, 3 of weights and 1 stand. Delivery was very quick. 2. They do have some oil/residue on them when you first pull them out of the box. I just wiped them down with soapy water and a rag and it came off easily. 3. I have read that some of the weights are off in actual weight. So I weighed them all. 5s,10s&15s all weighed what they are supposed to. The 20s and 25s were off by 0.5-1lb. But this is not a deal breaker for me, and also could have been the way I had them on the scale. 4. The stand is sturdy, but could get wonky and off balance if you tighten the bolts down too much at the beginning. My advice would be to not tighten them down all the way until the whole thing is put together. Also, all of the places that the weights sit have a rubber coating to prevent scratches which I think is great, and I can get the weights out of the rack easily without pinching my fingers. 5. None of mine had any sharp edges on the metal, nor the rubber, but you can tell they came out of a mold. 6. There is a rubber smell, yes, but in my opinion it was not awful and it disappeared quickly. don’t let the negative reviews get to you. Highly recommend and very excited to use them.
