These are a solid pair of BowFlex Dumbbells and work great as something heavy (or not so heavy) to pick up and put down in your daily life. They don't have constricting bars like box versions, but I also wouldn't recommend doing pushup rows with them like you can with box versions. Adjustment is easy and they have an audible and tactile swap when changing weights on each side. Just click and pull them out. They don't take up nearly as much space as a complete set of dumbbells these would replace. A con could be that getting them into place might be difficult if you are working up to their weight, so an assistant might be needed to move them into place. you can decrease that by setting to specific weight settings and removing them then moving the base, but that's about it. ... show more

These dumbbells have a very premium feel to them. They are very well made, and all of the materials seem to be excellent quality. The mechanism works very smoothly and is easy to use and easy to adjust, once you realize you have to set both ends! It takes a little concentration to put the dumbbell back on the base as you have to line up the discs into their slots. It's not difficult, but you do have to engage a brain cell. I also have a set of Powerblock Sport 50s, so here is a comparison: The Bowflex are larger, but the finish is nicer and it is considerably easier to change the setting, especially in a cramped space. You also have more freedom to move your hand as there are no horizontal connections other than the grip bar, unlike the Powerblocks. ... show more

These are a great price for what is received, you have multiple weights up to 52.5 pounds for each dumbbell. The weights are extremely easy to change, just twist the sides and you have a different weighted dumbbell. They are easy to slide back into the holder and not wobbly or difficult to fit back in. They are wider than say a 15 pound dumbbell so it is a little more awkward for the lower weights but they are stable and evenly weighted. These are a huge space saver, we wanted to have multiple options in our garage gym so all 4 of us could work out at the same time so we wanted something that wouldn't take up a bunch of space as we already have regular dumbbells and weight plates, this works great for that extra weight without taking up space. ... show more

    • Poor Customer Support and Disappointing Recall Resolution

I do not recommend buying anything from this company. They clearly do not value their customers. My Bowflex 552 dumbbells were in like-new condition when they were recalled due to the weights potentially falling off. I followed their instructions and sent them back, but if I had known they would only offer a $30 voucher toward a new set, I never would have returned them. Now they expect me to pay more than what I originally paid for the faulty 552s. That doesn’t sound like a fair deal for customers. I ended up purchasing this 150 lb dumbbell set from CAP to replace the 552s I returned, and I couldn’t be happier. These adjustable dumbbells are an excellent addition to our garage set-up. We don't have a ton of room out there with all our adventure toys, so finding weights that fit anywhere is essential. As much as I'd love a complete set-up, these dumbbells will have to do. These let you easily adjust the weight by turning a dial. It's a simple, yet secure way. The grip makes them easy to hold and doesn't cause discomfort. These are as durable as they can get. These provide a convenient solution for performing a full range of exercises typically found in a commercial gym. Yes, they are expensive ($400+), but so is $40 a month at a gym. I absolutely love these. Needed freeweights for the home gym. With limited space these are the way to go. Easily you can turn the dial to the desired weight. No catching binding or other issues. Comfortable grip on them and easy to hold. I can finally take my workouts to the next level with dumbelss. You save so much room with these having. They are expensive but when you gauge the room you save and what per lb cost of a dumbbell you have to gauge what works best for you. I can do all my normal commercial gym workouts with these.
