  • I like it! and so do my Apple devices
Style: Printer
I remember when a laser printer was way too expensive to consider for your average home, let alone color one. So I bought this, the least expensive color laser printer I could find. I've had this printer for about a week now and it has worked just beautifully. I'm feeling smugly happy about what I think is a great buy. Background: For simplicity, I have only Apple stuff in my house: iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 & 6S, two 2013 MacBooks, a 2010 MacBook Pro, and a 2009 iMac. I have Xfinity for my internet service. Set Up: Easy. I followed the instructions included with the printer and on the printer's display. One thing, there is a lot of orange tape outside and inside that needs to be removed. I was afraid I'd miss one and mess up the printer. WiFi: The wifi setup came down to just two steps for me. As I ran through the setup sequence on the printer's display, step one, I had to push the WPS button on my Xfinity router and then, once the printer connected itself, step two, add the printer to my printers & scanners on my Apple devices. Now my whole family prints from all over the house. I haven't had any problems with bringing it online if it's idle for a while, like overnight. It does go into an energy save mode and takes maybe 30 seconds (rough guess) to get going again. Firmware: Using just the printer's display, I immediately updated the printer's firmware. (I'm wondering if not updating the firmware may be causing some of the problems found by other reviewers). Drivers and Manuals: I didn't use the CD that came with the printer. I'm not sure it would have worked on my Mac anyway. I went straight to Canon's website to register my printer ([...]). Once done, I downloaded the latest e-manual and also the latest drivers for the printer and scanner. Once installed on my computer (I've only put it on the MacPro because I use it the most), I went to my computer's SystemsPreferences>Printes&Scannersr>Options&Supplies>ShowPrinterWebsite. Then used the ToPortal link on the website (upper right corner) to change settings for the printer (like default print tray, the type of paper, the density/intensity of the print, etc.). Although you can also change the settings on the printer display, this was easier. The manual is a little cryptic and minimalist. I accessed it by opening the index.html file in the e-manual folder that I downloaded. Then it brings up a home page with a menu/Table of contents and search box for whatever information you're looking for. Printing: Some reviews have complained about the print quality. I did find that the initial print quality was a little light. I'm not sure if it's the cheap paper I use but using the printer portaI, I increased the density by 1 and it looks great. You can specifically adjust quite a lot of things actually, for example if you want more yellow. (You can do this from the printer display too). It's so quiet compared to my previous Canon InkJet, my kids keep asking me if their stuff has printed yet (because it's my job). Cartridges: It comes with everything you need to start. From what I gather, these starters are half full and will last about 700 pages, but replacements, well this is where all the printers get you. There are 4 cartridges and to replace all 4 with Canon products will cost more than the price of the printer. I fully intend to try some of the other sources available on Amazon. Overall: As some reviews have said, it doesn't print duplex. I guess you need to be willing to pay more for a different printer for that flipping the paper function (Canon MF726Cdw about $50 more). For me, at this price, I am perfectly content without it. Overall, for my purposes (general home, kids' projects, iPhone, copy/printing stuff), it's been a terrific buy. ... show more

  • The perfect compromise for small to medium business!
Style: Printer
We picked this printer up after our old inkjet printer was not holding up to our demand. We use this printer for colored brochures, loan form printing, as well as scanning documents. Pros: Price. Excellent price point for the capabilities. Size. Is it heavy? Absolutely. however, it is small enough to fit on a counter height table and still allow for easy access. Navigation: The color touchscreen is very responsive to touch. The User interface is also very simple and complete. color recreation. We print many different promotional material, and the brochures are coming out very crisp and professional looking. Setup: Set up is very simple. The on screen commands walk you through the entire process, both on the computer, and on the printer itself! Cons: Weight? For some you will certainly need two bodies to set this up where you need this to go. Overall: This is a fantastic option for small or at home business to get commercial quality results. ... show more

  • What's not to like ? This is a great printer ~ EASY ~ set up and excellent print quality.
Style: Printer
What's not to like ? for sure I did read several negative reviews from people who I guess did not read or could not follow the instructions but for us setting it up on a wireless network with apple router was a SNAP, like three minutes. I am positive wired or USB set up is easier so not to worry if you're not an IT person. On an mac/apple the printer configured itself once on the network and did not require any drivers to be installed, so easy. Printer looks great and is not too big for our designated printer station but if you have a small space you may want to check the dimensions because it is rather large. ... show more

  • Do not buy if you want WiFi feature
Style: Printer
Horrible. I regret this purchase. I bought this in no small part because I wanted WiFi access. But, the WiFi connection kept breaking down. After 3 calls to Canon help line, I was finally told that WiFi signal is susceptible to interruptions if the printer is more than 3-5 ft from the printer. My HP and other brand printers didn’t have such annoying limitations. I was left w the choice of moving the printer to the living room (!!!) or garage (!!!). Originally, printer was placed ~15 ft from the router. If you are thinking of connecting via USB or Ethernet, be aware that I was told that those wires need to connect from your printer to the router. This is a horribly designed printer. Amazon should make the vendor clarify these limitations clearly in writing in the product description. Will not buy large, expensive items from Amazon again. ... show more

  • This printer is excellent. It matches the print quality of a large ...
Style: Printer
I am an attorney with a solo practice. This printer is excellent. It matches the print quality of a large commercial laser color copier in my primary office. The quality of the print, speed, and price per copy has allowed me to run 50% of my paper work out of my home. I previously owned three ink jet printers. Although they were all good, the print quality was insufficient to present documents to clients or for filing with the Court. The total cost of the MF628 is less than my monthly maintenance charge for my commercial printer. ... show more

  • Great Printer!
Style: Printer
Love this printer. My husband and I have had the usual cheap color printers our whole marriage and I was buying new ink at least every month. It was so expensive, and the printer really wasn't that great of quality either. Since we print a lot, we decided to go all out and buy a laser printer to do the job. This printer is awesome. No ink smudges, everything prints clear and perfect and It's fast! The colors look great and the pages are crisp and clean. Love this printer. Won't ever go back to a non-laser. It's super heavy and BIG, but works like a charm, so it's worth it. ... show more
