  • 2-sided scanning to pdf works... and it's super fast!
Style: Old Model
Based on some limited reviews that said scanning doesn’t work and / or scanning 2-sided outputs to an image file, I almost passed on this. But I needed a new printer and went for it during a limited time deal (almost $100 off). AND let me tell you that scanning both sides of a page DOES work and outputs to a PDF. Not only does it work, it’s super fast! I’m scanning to my PC directly to a PDF file. Printing is awesome (double sided which is the main reason I purchased this). Upon plugging it in (power and ethernet), the language menu was messed up (i.e. selecting United States showed time zones in Europe… went to ‘Other’ country and was able to find my USA time zone from there). It then found a firmware update so I allowed it to download and install it directly (selecting yes though the touch screen on the printer... it did it automatically; I didn't have to download and manual install it). I then installed the software from Canon’s website (driver and scan utility) on my PC which required a reboot and then I was off and running. Though I just got this and mean-time-to-failure is still unknown, so far… this is the best printer I’ve ever had! And I've had like 3 so take that for whats its worth ;-) ... show more

  • Fast double-sided economy printer.
Style: Old Model
We got this based on a tech magazine review. The best feature is the speed of printing double-sided. Double-sided printing is about the same speed as single-sided printing. Great for the rising price of paper. The copying capabilities works well with many menu options available. Some minor issues that we've had: 1) one of our computers has an issue with the paper size so we have to go to the printer to override the paper size every time. 2) the paper tray seems small and it is difficult to load. You have to push the paper through the guides then shake it hard to get the paper to even out. 3) like all printers, the installed toner didn't last long at all. It does take other brands well. ... show more

  • Great printer when it wants to connect!
Style: Old Model
I wish I could give this 3.5 stars. The printer works great! .... When it wants to connect. The printing, scanning, multi functionality is fantastic....when it wants to connect. Then I cannot stop each time it decides to connect it goes through a test print cycle and wastes paper and I have to reload five sheets every single time. Drivers don't fix it. Connecting USB doesn't fix it. There aren't many settings that allow me to mitigate the issue of connectivity. Printers have always had issues, and I guess it will continue to be like this through the entirety of civilization. I have to restart the printer and my PC to get it to connect. It makes no sense. Printers will never make sense to me. ... show more

  • I’m able to print pages directly from my phone while laying in bed in another room.
Style: Old Model
This printer is a breeze for homeschooling, doing notary work, printing workbooks out all Bluetooth from other rooms. I’m able to easily print to this printer with a touch of one button on my phone. I’m able to make copies. This is a black and white printer only which I don’t mind which saves me money on ink. It works well. It’s easy to setup. It prints ridiculously fast. The size is great for any home office. It has a wireless connection and Bluetooth ability. I snagged mine on Amazon prime day for additional savings. It’s a great value for my money. It’s durable and efficient. It has a sleep mode when not using. ... show more

  • Prints well/ fast - The scanner (and software) are useless...
Style: Old Model
I have to scan many documents of a variety of paper sizes and I'm having a heck of a time doing that because I have to constantly run back and forth from the machine to the computer terminal, clearing errors all the time! The warnings are so frequent that the scanner is barely usable! I honestly feel like I was scammed! I was always under the impression that Canon produced good products, but they must have been on vacation when they designed this multifunction machine! The printer is fine. No complaints there. The scanner and software is so bad, I half believe that they intentionally designed it this way to aggravate users! If the slightest thing is unexpected it halts your scan process and you cannot proceed unless you provide input from the computer (which is not always next to the machine Canon)! You cannot clear the error from the scanner which is ridiculous! That's where your performing the task! Also, in this day and age, computers have enough memory and processing power to allow for automatic cropping (and de-skew), doing away with the need to specify the paper size! Using microswitches and the contrast of paper from the scanner bed background via imaging, it should be fairly easy to determine or at least estimate paper size to the nearest likely size. If you don't set the paper size correctly when using the flat bed, it throws a warning and requires user interaction, again at the computer terminal! At the very least, they could give us the option to NOT halt the job when there is warning (no interaction required) OR allow the user to clear the error at the machine itself! The communication between the computer and the machine appears to not be synchronized properly or severely delayed because after a considerably amount of time, it throws a warning stating that "originals were left in the feeder" when attempting to load the next batch. The software thinks you just inserted originals immediately after the previous job when it was 30 sec to 60 sec ago! So I have to wait more than a minute before I can load the next job to avoid a warning that (you guessed it) requires user interaction at the computer terminal??? Seriously??? On top of that, sometimes the automatic feeder grabs more than one sheet at a time and damages originals because the "throat" is not entirely smooth! There are edges in there! Why??? And could it hurt to allow scanning of non-standard paper lengths like banners for example? Give us a banner mode! I would expect better from Canon! To summarize: the scanner is not up to modern standards and was not designed with productivity and workflow in mind (perhaps to anger users), there should be auto-crop, auto-de-skew, auto-blank page detection standard in a modern scanner, and at the very least, allow clearing errors from the machine which is where your physically doing the scanning! Can I have my money back please?? ... show more

  • I like the speed and 2-sided copying
Style: Old Model
As the headline says the speed and ability to copy 2-sided documents is great. Although the whole idea of using a FAX seems outdated, there have been occasions when I need to fax a document - and fax is the most secure way to electronically send a document. I have wired ethernet in my home office so I just plugged in the network cable and the printer grabbed an IP address from my router (via DHCP) and was ready to go. It was immediately available to print from my iPhone. As some reviewers said the software installation can be a little confusing. One of the steps is to choose one (or more) drivers for the printer. There really is no simple description between the 3 drivers to help you decide. I chose all three and ended up with 3 different Canon printers showing in my Windows 11 PC. I just used the first one to print and it works just fine. I'll probably remove the other 2 to avoid confusion. I recommend you just choose the first driver unless you know what the others do. One of my first uses was to print some address labels. I really liked the ability to load more than one blank label pages in the secondary feeder rather than the usual one-at-a-time found on my old multi-function printer. The back of the printer opens up to keep the label pages from curling up and possibly jamming the printer. When I first tried labels for some reason the printer thought there was a paper jam (there wasn't) and the process of clearing the jam was a little crazy. The screen required me to go through a bunch of steps and keep pressing next. I couldn't figure out how to circumvent all the steps and it 'sensed' when I completed each step - like take out the toner cartridge. The touch screen could use a lot of improvement. If you are used to using a smart phone screen you will be a little frustrated with this printer's screen. I doesn't seem to work all the time. Did I press that button already? Why didn't that work? Just slow down and use deliberate presses to avoid some frustration. I purchased this during Prime Days at an extremely attractive price. I look forward to trying out more of the features such as 2-sided scanning and higher resolution printing. I still wonder if it will do 2-sided fax too. ... show more

  • Long lasting and reliable, zero issues.
Style: Old Model
I have bought several home use printers and been overwhelmingly disappointed each time. The ink never lasts, there are constant comparability issues, etc. this printer has been the first one that consistently works as expected every time. Setup is really easy, and my wife and I are both able to effortlessly print from our phones anywhere in the house. That’s a feature that other printers have advertised but have always been too difficult to set up for what it’s worth. I have used this printer heavily for the last several months, to include print jobs several hundred pages. The original toner is still kicking out bold prints with no issues and no blur or fade. Doesn’t have color options, but considering the low cost of use and the reliability it’s a small price to pay. Would purchase again without hesitation. ... show more
