  • Really good value for what it is!
Style: Printer
Update: It's been over a month and everything is still working great. I've used the unit a few times for printing, scanning, and copying stuff since and it's all good, even double sided prints are great. We had a power outage too and it did not affect the printer any. It's been a week since I received this item so I wanted to take the time to review it because I've been living with an HP inkjet printer/copier/scanner combo for the past decade and in the recent years, I find that I am using it less and less, but there's always some need for it once every couple of months or so and I'll find that the ink has always gone dry and so I end up buying new ink for it every time I need to use the printer. Frustrated with that, I started searching for a good laser printer/copier/scanner combo for the past few months, but everyone just recommends Brother and their cheapest combo model runs twice the price of this printer and nearly 3x the price of my inkjet. After further research, I found that some people run into an issue with laser printer using a lot of power and potentially setting off the breaker. This unit in comparison appears to run with less power (for a laser printer) and I'm happy to report that I haven't had any issues with it tripping the breaker or any issues with it waking up instantly from sleep mode when I need to print off the network. First, I did check the reviews here and note some people having issues with the wi-fi, so I skipped all that and got myself an ethernet cable along with the printer. I set up the printer near the router and just plugged my printer directly to it via the ethernet cable. Then, I went to their website and downloaded the recommended driver. Run it and it should scan and detect your printer. If it doesn't, make sure your printer is on and is plugged in to router. Additionally, someone here said to use a static IP so I set that up on my router as well for this printer, even though the driver installation had no issues finding the printer even without that step, but I figure if I can skip a possible issue down the line, why not? The last thing you need to know is that after installing the driver on any PCs you want to connect it to, you will want to run or look in the system tray for Canon MF Network Scanner Selector and make sure it is checked ok and running in the system tray. This will allow the machine to detect your PC and you can scan directly to any PC where you have this set up. Otherwise you will need to trigger the scan from the PC which is less convenient if the PC is not next to the printer. The whole setup took less than 10 minutes, I'm not sure why so many people had issues or claim that the setup is super complicated when it is no more complicated than any other printer on the market. Most of the time was spent on removing the tape from the machine itself and plugging it in. Just make sure you follow the directions to remove the orange plastic pieces on the toner. After setting it up, I tested printing from a PC, copying an ID card directly on the machine without any PC involved (great feature by the way, you can print both sides of the ID on one page). I also tested scanning the ID card to my PC and it worked with no issues. The print/copy also came out great without any special tweaking on the printer itself. The machine has a lot of options, but you can leave most of it on default and it does the job fine. Then, I let it sleep and tried printing on another machine the following day to see if it is able to wake up ok after sleeping overnight and I found that it printed almost instantly, taking almost no time to wake up. I tested again a week later (today), and printed 14 pages double-sided and it perfectly printed both sides to 7 pieces of paper perfectly without any extra intervention from me. I also really appreciate the understated features such as being able to tilt the panel to make it easier to see if you are taller like me and the cleverly designed multi-piece cover that covers the entirety of the paper tray so that the paper won't catch any dust sitting there for months. Also, the scanner top also allows you to pull up a bit to scan thicker objects like a textbook for example without leaving the top up. I'm really happy with the purchase so far and I'm so glad that I found this laser printer combo for this price. I will be sure to update if my experience changes ... show more

  • WiFi printing from Chromebook Plus - NO PROBLEM
Style: Printer
I had no problem setting up WiFi printing from Acer Chromebook Plus after D70 printer setup. I didn't even use the manual - just followed the setup menus. A tip I read online prior - use the (*) key to change input mode between upper case/lower case/numeric. The alpha mode choice for which of the key's 3 or 4 chars (e.g 2/ABC, 3/DEF,...) is done by multi presses of the key - like a dumb phone when entering text (e.g. 2 2 chooses B, 2 2 2 chooses C). Once the printer was set up the Chromebook found it without problem (read up on printing from Chromebooks on web) via its settings (Device/Print). I saved the selected printer and now the Chromebook always shows it as a print destination choice. I haven't tried scanning yet. Disclaimer: I have 45 years computer software engineering experience and have configured other devices to communicate via WiFi. So I'm computer literate. Maybe those who say it is too hard to configure have little or no experience ? The printer manual is not a tutorial - inexperienced users should watch some YouTube videos on setup and/or read up about WiFi security. UPDATED: Scanned documents into my Chromebook via WiFi with no problem, 1st try. Did both color and greyscale. Settings/Device/Scan found scanner immediately. Created both PDF and JPEG results. ... show more

  • Good enough for the specs/price/quality
Style: Printer
Dry happy with this. It’s probably one of the cheapest laser printers with WiFi and automatic duplex capabilities that I could find. I’ve no significant complaints. Connecting has always been easy enough. Quality of print seems good. Printing isn’t necessarily the fastest, but good enough for my needs. I’ve easily printed hundreds of pages already. Not sure the duplex-as-default always wants to stick though. Input of paper isn’t the greatest, but passable. Output location is a bit weird, but it’s fine. ... show more

  • POOR QUALITY!
Style: Printer
I had originally bought this brand because I have had great success with Canon products in the past, using a scanner of theirs for over ten years. In fact, I gave away that and a really nice HP printer I order to get this 2-in-1 printer-scanner. I really shouldn’t have. Unless it’s just me who ended up with a lemon, I could not be more disappointed with the longevity of this product. Within the first two years, the scanner started having issues and then completely stopped working. No troubleshooting would fix it. After three years, the network cord was working inconsistently. And in the last year, the printer has been printing a page of nonsense plus blank pages when it’s turned on, EVERY time. And it is not reading print jobs from the computer unless I hit print and then turn the unit off and on. Now I am limping along until I can afford another printer, which will NOT be a Canon. Waste of money! ... show more
