Printing with Ubuntu (Linux), installed nothing, just took it out of the box, took the tape off, entered my Internet KEY, put in some paper, and ready to go. Printing in color, printing both sides of the paper, printing from my Android phone without adding any software. Quality is awesome in BW or color. Finally a printer that doesn't waste all your time trying to make it work. Very impressive. Toner cartridges can print 3000 pages, which for me will be a couple years. I love this machine!. To get from wait state to 1st page is about 15 secs, then cranks out pages 22/min. I can't believe what this cost!! $300. I've only had it 2 days, but I anticipate no probs. ... show more

    • Very nice printer, however on board display for configuring printer needs work.

Printer prints fast and also very clean prints of photos and documents. The only issue is using the onboard display and buttons to connect the printer to a network. The button press sequence is not straight forward and also does not provide an option to delete a character when entering the wifi password, you have to restart from the beginning if you have a mistake in entering. Despite not having a scan function, the printer worked right away. The Wi-Fi setup is clunky and not as easy as it is supposed to be (it didn't work). But I was reading that some had issues with the wake-up on print request, but I did not. I have it on Wi-Fi, and when it goes into energy saver mode, it wakes up, prints, and is done. For the money, this is an excellent printer. And I really hope it does not have a 'age counter' in it, as if it does, I throw it away, as I am not printing a lot. ... show more

You would think that in 2024 getting a network-attached printer to print from a modern OS like Windows 11 would be trivial right? Unfortunately that's not the case. First problem: This printer refuses to work with my wireless network. I have a Wifi 6 mesh system in my house and this printer sits less than 4 feet away from the main unit. It can detect the wifi network with no issues, but rejects my password EVERY SINGLE TIME. I've even tried changing the network password to 1234 to make mistyping it literally *impossible* but each time the printer will tell me that the wifi password is not correct (spoiler alert: it is not). This is the ONLY network device I have bought in the past 10+ years that I've had trouble getting to connect to wifi, and it's supposed to be easier than ever these days. Okay fine- I'll connect it wired- like I said, the device is 5 feet away from the router so I'll just plug it in. Network detected, great! Now I'll just set up an IP reservation for this device so it always has the same local IP address.. nope, my router doesn't see it. Like it literally _does not show up_ in the list of clients, even though the printer says it's connected. So even though it's 2024 and I've bought a _wireless_ printer, I'm stuck with a ridiculously long USB cord and using windows printer sharing so everybody on my network can print. Style: New Model
The print quality is as it should be. I hope it doesn't fade over time like the HP's and Xerox! The settings are just as complicated and confusing as all the others. Will i live long enough that the manufacturers will include just the basics: size of paper, tray to print from, black and white or color, and orientation (either portrait or landscape)? That's all we need and the other settings are neither practical nor user friendly. I print from Word most of the time and if you specify the basics in Page Setup mentioned earlier, the LBP646Cdw prints flawlessly! Add the "print" button to Word's standard toolbar and you will have the ultimate setup for a quick 1 side single sheet from the Multi-purpose Tray. Otherwise, print from Drawer 1. This may be the only printer that I have ever used that has NOT jammed - not yet anyway! This may help you: set Drawer 1 to the stock used most often, in my case 8.5 X 11 LTR. THEN set the Multi-Purpose (single sheet slot) to AUTO. Then configure the application you are printing from AND the properties within the driver to accommodate other than the default you designated for Drawer 1 and this will handle most situations with the least resistance. And for Windows 10 and 11, go with this driver: [Windows 64bit] Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver V3.31 The starter cartridges last me a couple of years and real cartridges cost more than a new printer! At that time, i will donate to charity, take a deduction and buy a new, perhaps improved, and hopefully simpler model! (It could be that to accommodate every scenario, the driver/settings are necessary and my quest for simplicity is unrealistic. For my configuration, the LBP646Cdw is THE best available - as long as the print quality holds up.) ... show more
