Style: Roomba s9+
We have been a Roomba family since 2018. We have had a Roomba 980 upstairs and a Roomba 671 in the basement. The 980 is a beast and in my opinion, is the best Roomba ever made. The 671 is sufficient, although it bounces around like it's lost all the time. But this review is not about my old Roombas. We decided that the one drawback to the 980 is that is worked so well, the dust bin filled up fast and it was a hassle to keep emptying it. So we wanted one of the newer self-emptying Roombas. We tried the i5, and that seemed stupider than our 671. We could tell it tried to be smart, but became confused easily and would shut down for no apparent reason, plus the suction really wasn't there. We returned that I decided to try a more expensive version. Well we are happy we did. The s9+ is almost as much of a beast as the 980. ALMOST. It seems like it has a little bit less suction power, but the room map capability and self-emptying make up for it. It navigates flawlessly and it is super nice to tell it to only clean the family room (or whatever room) if needed. It's also much faster than our 980. The 980 would spend 10-12 hours cleaning our 2200 sq ft main level, while the s9+ takes a bit more than 8 hours. Another big plus, it is much quieter than our 980. All-in-all we are pleased with our purchase. I will update this review in the future to let you know how it works over the months and years. ... show more

  • $600 and disappointed (Update - Solid do not buy x2)
Style: Roomba s9+
First this thing is loud. The rubber scrapers/rollers squeak on our floors. It's pretty annoying, I even use it a my alarm clock now. While it is loud when cleaning your floors there is nothing that compares to when it empties into the base. High pitched vacuum noise as loud or louder than my shop vacuum. I am not exaggerating. I had a $180 Shark that was dumb as a rock, banged hard into everything, not as loud and cleaned as well. This is supposed to replace the Shark. ___________________ On the Seventh day... After it woke me up it vacuumed for a bit and did it's 'I stopped vacuuming for a reason' beep. I had some things to do so I checked the app. It showed it was still cleaning. But it wasn't. Eventually I remembered it exists and found it. I pressed clean and it would not resume. So I put it on the dock and it still showed it was cleaning as it was charging. Came back and the Roomba didnt respond to either the app nor the 'clean' button. It needed a reboot. Held the 'clean' button for 20 seconds and it rebooted. Still nothing. I waited again. Pressed the 'clean' button again and it finally started to reboot. It told me it had an error 15, some internal error it was able to clear on its own. But no clue what it was. Finally it starts working again and I set it to clean again. Seven days and this thing already had an internal error. $600 gamble if this will happen again. I'm going to exchange this one. I don't feel like dealing with a deteriorating unit which may fail outside of the 30 day azon return period and get a refurbished unit from a warranty return with iRobot. Update: Since I posted I still ran the vacuum to see if things that happened were a fluke. Maybe my expectations were too high? I've come to find out they really aren't. So, the vacuum tried to 'mount' the dock. No, not in the I'm going home to charge and empty my bag. Nope, it decided to hump the dock at an approach angle of 45°, then after a minute of rocking up and down it backed off, spun around 360° and started it again. This happened 4-5 times before I picked it up and placed it away from the dock. Something else I've learned is that everytime something gets stuck in the brushes I need to clear the brushes and then put it back on the dock to 'reset' it. Pressing the clean button will not get it to start cleaning again. It just toots its cheery little tune and sits there. I did not have this problem with the Shark that the Roomba replaced. The worst part of it is that after being on the dock it will not pick up the job where it left off. So half the floor is clean. If I set it to clean again it starts with cleaning the area it has already cleaned. I run this vacuum once a day. I can count on my hand the number of days that this vacuum has run trouble free for me and still have 3 fingers left over. Update, again (2 months): Do not buy this junk. It literally said it was stuck on a ledge... In the middle of our hardwood floor. Nothing around it. Now it has taken to trying to empty it's bin before it starts a job, repeatedly. Today it was 3 times in succession before I pulled it off it's dock. What programming says keep emptying your bin multiple times before you start a job. And the vacuum's bin is already empty. Who programs these things? ------------ Update 11/24/23 It is officially no longer working. It had a fault stating that the bumper was jammed and to tap it a few times to loosen it. I tapped it, and tapped it and tapped it some more. No change. Put it on the dock. No change. Rebooted it. No change. Tapped it again. No change. Rebooted it again. Yes, finally change. It moved a few feet from the dock and spun in a circle for about a minute and then the error of stuck bumper is back. I give up. I will continue to update all the new faults I discover until Amazon makes it unable for me to edit this review. ... show more

  • A major upgrade from the i7+ and 980
Style: Roomba s9+
The media could not be loaded. If you want to save time and energy, yet have clean floors, this baby is for you! I’ve had my Roomba 980 for two years and had recently bought a Roomba i7+ when the s9+ came out. I loved both my Roomba vacuums and a major selling point on the i7+ was the cleaning base and the fact that it would empty itself 30 times into a neatly disposable bag, rather than requiring me to empty the bag for every run. Loving the self-emptying feature, I jumped on the upgrade to the s9+ due to three major points: - smarter navigation, - more suction power, - and the ability to clean inside corners. The upgrade from the i7+ to the i9+ was totally worth every single penny for me. The s9 happily works through areas where my 980 and i7 got stuck, cleans corners where my old Roombas always left dirt, and climbs over a ¾-inch lip going from light tile to dark-brown painted concrete and vice versa that my other two robot vacuums always got stuck on, so I had to leave that room closed and clean it separately. I couldn’t believe the situations the s9 can work its way out of. The ¾-inch lip and two other troublesome ¾-inch slanted thresholds are no barrier to this baby. The first time up the ¾-inch step, Bertie, as we call him, got stuck. The next time, he worked his way about and finally made it over. From then on out, he has headed right for the middle of the lip and nailed it every time. He also cleans by a chair where there’s probably about an inch of clearance for him, and his training run had him turning bit by bit and retrying until he made it through the gap. And the way this guy learned all the corners in our house: amazing. Yeah, they did some major work on the Roomba AI and it shows. The s9 also quickly built a smart map (1 ½ training runs and one cleaning run) of our bottom floor, which is about 1,800 square feet. He always makes it back to his base, which doesn’t always happen with the older models. It also seems to clean longer on a charge, but I haven’t timed it. I’m posting a video of the s9 on a training run step where it’s learning how to navigate under a small piece of furniture with four legs. We are VERY happy with this new addition to the Roomba family. We run the s9+ downstairs every night and run another Roomba upstairs during the day a few times a week. It’s incredibly freeing to know that our Roomba is running every night cleaning all the West Texas sand and dirt that we and the dogs carry in, and I don’t have to worry about emptying the bin every run. I have a chronic illness and this Roomba truly adds to the quality of my life, saving me time and energy. Not to mention, the Roomba eliminates the stress of having a constantly dirty floor. (Even when we vacuumed every few days, our floor would be drifting with sand and dust.) Plus I can save my energy for other more enjoyable projects, things that I WANT to do – sorry, but vacuuming is not on that list. I listened to my friends rave about their robotic vacuums for quite a while before trying one, and once I had tried a Roomba, I was a believer. If you have a Roomba i7+, the s9+ is a major upgrade and worth every single penny. If you have anything less than an i7+, this vacuum is worth double every penny. I kid you not. This thing is so smart (watch a training run), has way more vacuum power, cleans corners, gets closer to the walls, and doesn’t get stuck under overlying edges (such as my dishwasher) the way the other models did. I’m just hoping the next model folds laundry. 😉 Let Amazon donate to your favorite charity!
