I got this a few years ago for pet cleanup, and I guess it's paid for itself in terms of how often I've used it. It's definitely really good for picking up fresh pet messes out of shag carpet. I do have several concerns though. I would say for regular cleaning of a heavily soiled carpet, it feels a little underpowered. You have to go over the carpet several times in order to get any significant cleaning and lightening of ground in dirt and stains. For heavily stained carpets that haven't been cleaned in a while, you might want to get a more powerful machine or rent a commercial cleaner. Second, it tends to drip dirty water out the bottom and back once you shut off the machine. This can be really frustrating, because you just tried to get the carpet clean... And now you have this trail of dirty water drips from the machine itself. You can help minimize this by either parking the machine on a towel or moving it to a tile floor, before turning it off. However, yet another problem is the design of the belt drive. The main drive belt is run on a thin steel axil. If the rollers get blocked by anything (such as a towel) that thin steel axil will burn through the belt within a matter of seconds. Literally, it kills the belt before you can shut off the machine. In my opinion this is a huge design flaw. The machine shouldnt be destroying belts every time it gets momentarily blocked. Regardless, be sure you don't let anything block the rollers, and you may want to plan ahead and have some spare belts. You are going to need them. ... show more
