What's going for it: Wood finish is good- smooth and authentic, looks refined enough, well finished. The clock face is clean, attractive & the movements of the hands are smooth & pleasing. What's not going for it: Don't get it if you don't like the "made in China"label. Don't get it if you don't like that the battery compartment for the chimes (see photo) being exposed, and generally not very nice looking, almost shoddy design. So unless my battery compartment casing was lost during shipment, the batteries are exposed, albeit it's located at the base & you can't see it unless you lift it up to see. It could have done with a solid wooden cover, that would have lifted it's value two fold at least. The cheap circular plastic cover over the rear mechanism & battery compartment although well fitted also gives it a cheap look that could easily have been avoided. Don't get it if you doing like fiddling around with the chimes- the chimes themselves are great sounding, but the synchronization is a pain- it doesn't help that the instructions given are so confusing! Do I turn it clockwise or anticlockwise? It doesn't differentiate between the situations when you should do what clearly enough. Which means you'll end up having to experiment much before you get it right. Downer. Or you could just turn off the chimes and have peace of mind. So this clock is a funny one. Bought it for the wood & traditional finish, which hasn't disappointment. For a reasonable to expensive cost of about USD 65-70 (2023), it gives you the basics, but are left wanting more- clearer instructions on how to set the time and synchronize the chimes, better designed battery compartments that don't detract from the nice wood finish, less plastic, more wood would have been excellent. One "AA" battery in BACK for clock, two "AA" on bottom of clock for chimes. 1-Use red disk on BACK of clock to set clock to 5:45 -- make sure the hands on the clock are turning clockwise. 2-On BOTTOM of clock push red "Set" button once (do not hold it down). 3- Go to BACK of clock- turn red disk till clock stops on 6:00 and clock will chime six times. 4- After clock has chimed the six times, use red disk on BACK of clock to set clock to correct time. Do not stop on each hour for clock to chime but rather simply move on through to the correct time. The first time I went through these directions, I obviously made an error as the synchronization was off. I repeated the steps a second time and was successful. ... show more

I bought this clock as a replacement for the clock the cat knocked off the mantle, not once, but three times! After the third time I just couldn't get it back together. I had no problem with the previous clock. I do love this clock, it's a little smaller than the previous one, which I like. It is a wood body in mahogany finish. It only chimes on the hour; that is a feature I like, just on the hour. No long dings to count the hour. It runs on batteries and keeps time well. ... show more

I bought this mantle clock as a gift for my lady. She LOVED it! The face is large and easy to ready, while being elegant, yet understated. The chimes sound much more realistic than the videos of the clock would make it seem and it does, indeed, chime the hours (you just have to wade through the rather convoluted setting procedure). The veneer is of great quality and the finish is rich and even. When my lady opened it, she got a little misty. It really is that beautiful. ... show more

This is a handsome clock, the wood is attractive and it’s easy to read. I was disappointed that the chimes do not strike the actual hours for the time of day, but it might be for the best. I’ve had striking clocks that are very difficult to program. It chimes on the hour and the sound is pleasant although somewhat tinny, which I prefer to a deep bonging sound. It is not too loud, but can be heard in the next room faintly with the TV on. ... show more
