We had an antique mantel clock that would do the Westminster chimes on the quarter hours and count the hours. Through the years, it needed visits to the clock repairman who has since retired. Needless to say, the clock couldn't be repaired anymore as it's hard to find such talented people. And, sadly the clock did get damaged beyond repair. So, we started looking for a replacement, and found this Bulova. Saw that it had several options for chiming and ran on batteries - no springs to break! Ordered it and it arrived as promised. The set up for the chimes went easily. After settling on the Westminster chimes, we let it run for a while. We had to turn off the quarter hour chimes as it appeared to not be programmed by the factory properly....it should have played just part of the tune at each quarter hour. It operated correctly for the first and second quarter hour. However, at the third quarter hour, the entire tune played instead of just 3 quarters of the tune. Did that for about 3 hours and we ended up turning that off. Too bad. Anyway, after adjusting the volume and setting the chimes for just the hour, we are enjoying it! One feature on the clock that we absolutely love is the Sleep Mode! It chimes for the last time at 10pm and stays quiet until 6am! Great!! And, as long as the batteries are good, it has been keeping excellent time! Still not our old antique, but we are enjoying it very much! ... show more

We have always wanted a mantle clock but they were either far too expensive or poorly designed. This clock is at the correct price point, well built with genuine wood but with an accurate movement and very lovely chimes. There are options for selecting different modes as well as "off", but we left it in Winchester mose. The volume is fully adjustable between barely audible to loud enough to be heard throught the house. We keep it very low so it doesn't interfere with the TV but can still be heard in other rooms. ... show more

I love things of quality and grace. This little clock would be comfortable in any setting and looks way more expensive than it is. I love the Westminster chimes. I love the volume control. The sound of the bells is so accurate and authentic it makes me want to cry because it takes me back to the days of my childhood. It is a fine little piece of furniture good enough for a home of any size. The price is reasonable but I would have paid any price for it. The batteries that operate the clock seem to go on and on and on. The time is always accurate to within a minute or two. But I did not buy this for accuracy. I bought it for the nostalgia and for the comfort that it gives to me. ... show more

I was a little apprehensive ordering this clock because of some of the reviews saying it is hard to set. I just followed the instructions and I had no problems. It does take time because you can only turn the dial counter clockwise and you have to wait until the chime is complete before moving forward. This clock is very nice for the price. It looks beautiful and hash nice, solid feel to it. My only issue (and it’s not that bad) is the chime does not sound as close to the old fashioned hammer chimes as I would like, but they they do sound good. Again, for the price, it’s a great clock.

I love this clock. Looks great and is accurate. I would recommend that when you are setting the time, go slowly and allow the clock to go through its hourly song and chimes completely before moving the hands around to the next hour, otherwise it will get chiming all messed up. For instance, I didnt allow it to play it's tune and finish the chimes as I went around the clock to set the time. End result, it would chime 8 times at 2:00 and so on. Had to remove batteries and start all over. But its back on track now and I really do love the looks of this clock. I just wish it had an optional light in the face. Hard to see at night. OH, and I didnt like the setting that chimes every 15 minutes. It would also be great if there was a setting that chimed on the hour and one quick chime on the half hour, but the setting on this clock for the half hour part also include every quarter hour. I couldnt take that. LOL. ... show more

My old mantel clock did not keep time! it ran fast! The chime sounded too "Electric" This new clock has a rich deep bell quality to it and it keeps perfect time! The dark wood case is beautiful as well! All and all I'm extremely happy with my new Bulova Mantel Clock! ♥♥♥
