I SO LOVE THIS PRINTER -- I wanted to write another review. I have had this printer for 14 months but have only been using it for my business for eight months. I just printed out a ream of paper for a single closing and it prints like a champion!! It never overheated (which I expected) and never stalled/halted. It has a 70-page ADF but it really does handle substantially more, and when the tray gets low I can add more pages to scan for the same file and it never misses a beat! I print a lot for a small business and it just doesn't fail me. KUDOS, BROTHER!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE My Printer!!! I am a Certified Loan Signing Agent and require a durable, reliable, high-yield/capacity printer and scanner. This Brother printer fits that bill! The reasons I purchased this particular printer are: 1) Extra paper trays are available for purchase and at a reasonable price (and I needed it and want to get one more down the road). 2) The paper trays accommodate both letter- and legal-size paper. 3) I can use (per Adobe settings) letter and legal size interchangeably without having to stop and reload manually. 4) The ADF capacity is 70 pgs which is the largest capacity ADF I could find. (You can squeeze a few more pages in and it still works fine.) 5) High-yield toner cartridges are available which print up to 8,000 sheets per cartridge. 6) The printer can be used wirelessly or hard-wired AND I can print from my phone if desired. 7) It is Multi-function, so If I need a fax, it's available. 8) It tells you when you need to replace the toner, so you can hit the DASH button on your Amazon account and a new one will be shipped to you posthaste. 9) Another thing I like is that there's a wire (on, I think it's the drum) that when you replace the toner, you slide a little 'thing-a-ma-jig' along the wire and it cleans any excess toner off the wire so that you always have clean looking copies. 10) You can call Brother and they will send you a label to return empty cartridges. (Now I just save a copy of the label and print it out as needed.) While I have experienced some issues, I LOVE that the friendly folks at Brother are there to help me solve them. This 5800DW is my fifth Brother MFC units over the past 10 years (we print, copy and scan documents very heavily). So far it is the easiest to set up, took me only 3 mins after taking it out of the box. So far, we've been using this unit for 2 months and print quality, the scan quality and ability to print / scan from smartphone . . all are very good (same as it has been with earlier units). Toner replacement with genuine Brother is a little pricey but I guess that how they make their profits. I noted that over the years (and many units), owners certainly will look to cut cost, hence use cheaper toner and drum . . . but it is also when the quality of the prints begin to degrade. Anyway, it is the economic reality. From experience, MFC usually functions well for about 2 years of heavily used (I mean 10,000 - 13,000 prints and copies per month). Then it begins to show signs of wears and tears for which it is time to replace with newer model (as fixing it will cost a lot more on parts and labor). Let's see how long this unit will last ;-) ... show more

    • Very easy to set up!

I had read some bad reviews on this product so was some what apprehensive about purchasing it but it seemed to be what I needed. I work at a repair shop and we need a printer to print work orders and also invoices for customers. It is a HIGH printer use location. The first thing I was impressed with was the ease of setting this up! It was plug & play for my computer and was a cinch to get on the network for the other computers to access. I did need to download the drivers for the printer on the other computers but that's to be expected and it all worked seamlessly. Also the print quality is sharp! And print speed is impressive! Makes WAY less noise than the Brother 8810 I replaced! I haven't had this very long yet but am very happy and satisfied so far! Will update if that changes! ... show more

Update: Brother customer service is Awesome. They lost the first order for a new toner cartridge so I contacted them for an update. They apologized and sent a new one OVERNIGHT! This completely solved the problem, no more toner spots. ********************** I have toner spots on my printouts whenever the printer had been idling for a while. I used chat support and they did a great job of walking me through cleaning the drum, but it did not solve the problem. The replaced the printer and the new one has the same problem. I decided to contact Brother (by chat) because I thought they would know this printer better than Amazon. They were very helpful and knowledgeable and they concluded that the toner cartridge may have a problem. They are sending me a replacement toner cartridge to test. They even asked me to return the bad cartridge and a maintenance report from the printer so that they can analyze it. I like a company that wants to fix the problem rather than just give your money back. I will update this review once I have had a chance to test the new cartridge. Stars may go up or down depending on the result. ... show more

Do not buy this printer unless you want continuous problems with it printing and scanning. Do not buy this printer if you want any customer support. You cannot call Brother for support with less than 1 hour and 10 minutes on hold no matter what your problem is or what time of day it is. Tonight, I have been on hold for 1 hour and 20 minutes and still holding. They tell you while you are holding that you can get faster service if you use their "live chat". I have been connected to their "live chat" for well over an hour, and this is all I have seen the whole time: "All agents are currently busy, please wait for the next available agent.". I have NEVER waited on ANY other chat for over an hour for someone to even join the chat. I want to add to this review that I wrote yesterday. After being on hold 1 hour and 30 minutes, which was much longer than I said I would be on hold, someone at brother actually answered the phone. We spent over 30 minutes attempting too solve my problem. I say attempting to because immediately after hanging up with them, my printer still would not print. I am now on the phone again with them. I have been holding now for 1 hour and 15 minutes waiting on their alleged "support". ... show more

    • Good workhorse for the money

I am the IT manager for a warehouse. We have five MFC-L5800DWs and a sixth MFC-L6800DW (which is basically a stepped up version of the 5800). They have been getting used daily with tens of thousands of images each over the last few years. I wouldn't worry about the negative reviews. For this price point, you can't do much better than these. Aside from the occasional glitch that you will see on any machine, these reliably work well as networked printers. If people have poor quality with these machines, they probably aren't using OEM toner and drums. Yes, the OEM toner and drums are expensive - but they are for all printers. Get used to it. My only real complaint is that the document feeder / ADF thing pulls from the center, so if the user inputs the documents slightly offset, it will scan it skewed or jam the feeder. Which seems like a poor design. They could have spent an extra 27 cents to have some kind of side by side pull instead of the one center pull. Still, it is an easy work around to make sure users know to well seat the documents prior to scanning. ... show more

    • Wow! It is FAST!

We got this for me at my office to replace an older Brother model of the same thing. First of all, let me say it is FAST! And I mean REALLY FAST! Click print, there is a brief hum, and then ZOOP! Out spits your print! Set up was more complex than I had done before, but that is simply because it has more features than I am used to having. (And I was answering a busy phone and taking care of people coming in and out of the office whilst setting it up. So, that may have influenced my perceptions.) Really excited that we can print from Mobile devices! I took pics of the serial number and other info on the MFC and printed them from my iPhone for the file. Print quality is extremely clear! And, did I tell you it is fast? Even when duplex printing! Even when duplex printing on legal! The only thing I haven't found a way to overcome just yet is having to manually switch the paper type in the MP tray when I go from legal, to labels, to envelopes. It beeps and wants me to choose a new paper type. If anyone knows how to get past that, I would love to learn! I love that it is FAST! ... show more

    • Brother printers a bulletproof!

I have bought three Brother printers over the years and have never had a problem with any of them. I bout this one for my church with the matching additional paper tray. It works flawlessly! One other big bonus is that for now, Brother printers are not locked so you have to use their supplies. Saves a ton of money. Only problem I have is that my oldest Brother printer will not work with Windows 11, and according to their website they will not be furnishing one in the future. I just found this out and am looking for a work around. ... show more
