  • Expensive and stops printing with full toner
Style: New Model: MFCL3710CW
My complaints are not just specific to this printer or even the Brother printers. But it still applies because it is part of the experience of using this particular printer. The companies have just gone way out of control when it comes to holding you hostage for their ridiculously overpriced consumable supplies. This is always been the case but they’re constantly improving their technology and this is the worst printer yet. After about 800 pages it will stop working until you replace the toner with a brand new genuine brother cartridge that cost about as much as the printer. That toner cartridge that it’s telling you is empty is still quite full. And there used to be ways around this. But it is now almost impossible to either alter the firmware or alter the toner cartridge. If used to be you could cover up a little window with a piece of electrical tape and keep on printing for a while. There were also a firmware alterations you could make with a hex editor that would turn off the automatic suspension. They have just got more aggressive on the anti-consumer counter measures here. I had a brand new version of this printer that I sent something to it from my iPad and there was a driver problem, so it printed out 400 blank pages and then immediately told me that I was out of toner and refused to print no matter what I did. The printers keep track of every page that goes through it whether or not you use any consumables and forces you to replace the toners the belt the drum and the fuser regardless of the actual condition of these parts. It should be illegal for them to not allow the user to continue to print until the quality becomes unacceptable to them. It also should be illegal for them to force you to use their own genuine and extremely overpriced consumables. They do this by putting in chips and resistors that are either patented or secret, so as not to allow generic companies to produce supplies. As long as we consumers continue to buy these pieces of garbage and put up with these unfair practices they will continue to do this and make our lives miserable. Brother used to be one of the more flexible printing companies in this regard and now they are the absolute worst. ... show more

  • MFC-L3710CW Great printer
Style: New Model: MFCL3710CW
This printer is great. I am WFH due to the c@ronav!rus, and this printer lets me do everything at home, just like I do at my work office. I work for a large corporation and I am constantly printing stuff out to check database work, as well as scanning to email. It is a process to get it wirelessly connected, but there are plenty of YouTube videos to guide you through it. My IT person told me to print, I have to be off the VPN. I can: print/copy in BW and color, fax (if I had a home phone, which I don't), scan to email and you can choose different formats: PDF, JPG, searchable PDF, secure PDF, etc. With the scan function, you can put a stack of paper on there, and it automatically feeds all the paper, you don't have to sit there and open/close the top for each page, although you can do it that way if you prefer. Also, it has one paper tray, but you can load in different sizes of paper, one size at a time, and the printer gives you a prompt "do you wish to change the paper setting" each time. So, yay to printing both legal and letter size jobs. I don't do large jobs, and I can't say how this printer holds up with giant printing jobs, but for the price tag, it's a great deal. ... show more

  • Double sided printing (duplexing) stinks
Style: New Model: MFCL3710CW
It was not abundantly clear to me when buying this printer that it doesn't auto duplex (something I think any printer in the $300+ price range should ALWAYS have). That said, manual double sided printing WOULD be fine if it were easy to do. The printer doesn't have an easy diagram on its color screen to show you what to do so you have to constantly run back and forth from your computer to the printer trying to remember the diagram your computer showed. Once you finally figure out how to get it to print double sided in the correct orientation, you'll be disappointed to learn you can only do this, one page at a time. If you want to print 20 copies of a brochure, double sided, you would have to print all of them from tray 1 on one side, then stand there feeding each page, one by one, into the manual page feeder to print the other side. OR you'd have to put EXACTLY 20 pieces of paper into tray 1, so that it runs out of paper from tray 1 or else it will just print 20 copies of the first page and 20 copies of the second page without pausing for you to reload the printer. Its infuriating. ... show more

  • Toner and Maintenance is GONNA HURT.
Style: New Model: MFCL3710CW
Overall I love the printer, works great and its smooth. HOWEVER, the black toner advertises yielding 1400 pages LOL. We run weekly print outs that only add up to roughly 50 pages equaling 200 pages a month, nothing fancy or even heavy on the toner. We bought the printer Dec 12, 2018 and this review is written Feb 18, 2019 (less than two months) Equaling roughly 400 pages printed, and the black toner is GONE!! Thats roughly 1000 pages less than insinuated. So that is going to cost us $78 every two months for the black. Color toner is at 50%, so in theory it should last two more months, which would be much more reasonable. $78 every two months for Black. $70x3= $210 every four months for the three colors, and once a year replacing the 4 drums at $130 each= $520. Estimated cost for the year printing less 200 pages a month will run $1618.00.... ... show more

  • Very Disappointed. Printer Comes With Only Several Drops Of Ink In It.
Style: New Model: MFCL3710CW
The printer has a number of small issues it shouldn't for the price but my anger comes from the fact that the ink supplied with the printer might last you 100 color prints. Maybe 100. Then its time to get back on Amazon open your wallet and spend 2/3rds of the price of a new printer on ink less than a week after starting to use the stupid thing. Don't buy this printer. ... show more
