    • On the fence…extremely slow, banding, manual feed doesn’t work, parts feel like they’ll break

I’m on the fence about this printer and trying to decide if I regret the purchase or not. CONS - Setting it up for AirPrint was frustrating. For about an hour, it was not showing up on my phone even though the printer settings report said AirPrint was on and it was connected to my network. Eventually, it did work after I turned it off and back on again. (D’oh!) - It is extremely slow. I quit a few prints because it didn’t seem like it was going to finishing receiving the data. I don’t know why a few times it was this bad. Other times, it was slow, but the data made it and it printed. - The manual feed tray is a complete joke. First of all, I was SHOCKED to see that it says on there not to put more than one sheet in the feed tray. On top of that, I could not get it to print anything at all from manual. It jammed the first time with a normal piece of paper. Then it continued to think it was jammed even though it wasn’t. - There are parts that feel extremely flimsy — the thing that essentially holds up the top part when you open it, is entirely made of plastic. It has NO resistance when opening, and I felt like I almost broke it. The pieces keeping the printer lid up are little tiny plastic parts that 100% will break at some point, most likely soon. One must exercise caution as well when closing it. - Print quality is questionable. Black alone was magnificent. Loved it. Printed color blocks with black text on them. The border between black and color was questionable. The color blacks had banding. Very sad. - The cartridges seem really small though and I’m worried they’ll need replacing often. PROS - Cheap. - Toner is not expensive. I believe a knock off will work too. - Each toner cartridge is separate, so you should be able to replace each individually. - Quiet - Auto duplex ... show more

This is my second major printer purchase in one year. Not happy about that. The competing brand inkjet I purchased was a total lemon. I switched technology to a color laser printer hoping for better performance. So far, this Brother has delivered nicely. The Brother HL-L3230CDW could not be simpler to set up with my Mac ecosystem, and I'm pleased this device offers AirPrint, too, which allows me to print directly from my iPhone without drivers or hassle. In a word, this printer simply WORKS! It's super quiet, prints almost instantly for simple text documents, and the page/per minute is a respectable rate. It wakes from "deep sleep" quickly. First - this is my third attempt at purchasing a laser printer for a home office. I went through two identical HP CDW printer scanners from a big box membership store. Thank goodness for their return policy since they both died within 3 months. This printer installed on my Windows 11 platform easily and prints look good, even on low quality paper. I'd give you a more detailed review of the quality, but I am no expert and others have already done that. For me, prints look professional, but I am no graphic artist. The installation was a bit more old school and reminiscent of Windows 7. As other reviewers have noted, it is hard to use the installation CD on a MS surface with no CD drive. But it doesn't matter, the Brother online installation software works just fine. You do need to go into the tools after they are installed and update the first installation software package. That’s normal though. I was initially confused after installing the software and drivers because it showed a scanner tool (after reading reviews, I decided to get one without a built-in scanner). I had to double check the box to make sure I wasn’t shipped a printer with a scanner. Once I clicked on the tool, it disappeared. Apparently, it detected the printer model and removed the scanner tool icon after the fact. I do appreciate the older installation applications that don’t overly rely on an “online service” for installation and use. I have found them to be very unreliable. This just installed the software then updated the firmware and it works, but I am very familiar with older versions of Windows and software installations. ... show more

Not so great on the depth of color and crispness of the text. But what is really the problem is that I cannot get this printer to duplex print and swap the side on the long edge like turning the page of a book. ..it will only turn the page on the short edge. Makes my life miserable and I've tried everything to get it to work. I'm really considering buying a different printer and will do better research the next time. Too bad because I'm happy with my Brother B&W only printer. ... show more
