11-10-2020 2020 sucks, but my printer is doing great. Still prints fast. We probably print like a page a day, sometimes we print 10. So that's like 400 pages maybe over the course of a year. I don't get any paper jams, or have any of the problems I had with all the other printers I've had to deal with. I am tech support, so I deal with my companies broken computers and printers all the time. 1-3-2020 Two and a half months later I still love it. We are probably nowhere near the 1800 pages or whatever number it was before the cartridges run out of ink supposedly. I have avoided updating the firmware hoping that will not be an issue for us. It works great, why would I want to update firmware? Over the last 20 years I have dealt with so many problems from so many HP printers, and this one just works flawlessly. My only complaint is that if I print a color picture the lines are not as crisp or Sharp. They still look okay. We just get our photo pictures printed somewhere if they are important. I have not tried it with photo paper, and do not intend to. We have mostly used it to print pictures to cut out for my kids projects to stick them to poster boards for presentations, and it was more than satisfactory. We have also used it to print Maps for road trips, it was okay, good enough... Bottom line is printer works great, app to print from phone is awesome. It prints from my network, I have not had issues with one computer printing to it (we have several). I would buy again. I have still not been compensated for this great review but would gladly take handouts! 10-15-2019 brand new today. Quick review: IT'S BIG! HUGE! 2-3 time larger than my 10 year old HP. 50 pounds! Setup wasn't hard, but could have been easier. Prints look great, prints fast, using only for minimal household use. So much easier to set up than an HP CDW

First - this is my third attempt at purchasing a laser printer for a home office. I went through two identical HP CDW printer scanners from a big box membership store. Thank goodness for their return policy since they both died within 3 months. This printer installed on my Windows 11 platform easily and prints look good, even on low quality paper. I'd give you a more detailed review of the quality, but I am no expert and others have already done that. For me, prints look professional, but I am no graphic artist. The installation was a bit more old school and reminiscent of Windows 7. As other reviewers have noted, it is hard to use the installation CD on a MS surface with no CD drive. But it doesn't matter, the Brother online installation software works just fine. You do need to go into the tools after they are installed and update the first installation software package. That’s normal though. I was initially confused after installing the software and drivers because it showed a scanner tool (after reading reviews, I decided to get one without a built-in scanner). I had to double check the box to make sure I wasn’t shipped a printer with a scanner. Once I clicked on the tool, it disappeared. Apparently, it detected the printer model and removed the scanner tool icon after the fact. I do appreciate the older installation applications that don’t overly rely on an “online service” for installation and use. I have found them to be very unreliable. This just installed the software then updated the firmware and it works, but I am very familiar with older versions of Windows and software installations. ... show more

A good quiet quality duplex printer

Good capacity and quality, love the duplex, pretty quiet even in a bedroom at night. I've had it for over a year, replaced cartridges in it once. Make sure you have overhead access to open it because any duplex printer is going to be heavy and you don't want to have to move it for paper or cartridge service. ... show more

Quality ok; inconvenient to use when you need to print fast

Quality of printing is good. However, I have an issue with the "toner is low"/"toner off" messages preventing me from printing. Guys, I paid money for this thing, and I want to be able to print a document fast when I need it. It's ok that you politely let me know that quality of print might be bad. But that shouldn't prevent me from printing. I’m ok for this doc to be bad quality, but I need it printed right now! I ordered a new toner, but for couple days I'll need to be able to print a low quality documents! The printer simply stops printing once it decided the toner is too low. ... show more

Great Print Quality

I've been lusting after a color laser printer for a while, but prices (especially for supplies) have been out of my reach. Previous experience with a Brother monochrome laser, reasonable printer price and very reasonable (relatively speaking) supply prices finally pushed me over the edge and I bought this printer. I had some reservations based on various reviews and the LED technology, but after using it to print a test photo and several color decals, I'm impressed! On decent photo paper the results are at least as good as the kiosk printers in the mall. Probably not up to professional printing standards but perfectly fine for a home user. Not a bad printer, but...

Just got it today (9/4/2019). Sets up quick and easy. Great for everyday printing. Comes out of "deep sleep" upon receiving a print job. However, the photo color quality is what I would call "okay" because it appears to create a very subtle pattern of lines especially with solid, lighter colors (such as sky), likely caused by the toner/roller/transfer process. Also the colors are subtly different from the original images (may be "solved" by using toner from some other source). Appears to print fine on any weight of paper. Last, the manual feed tray (#1) is really short, so you have to support the page manually and as such it will only allow you to feed one page. Also, you have to position the page carefully or the printer will report a jam. If you are only printing one page of labels or card stock or such, that is okay, but most all other manufacturers will at least have a page support and allow for a small quantity of pages for tray #1. Update 5/21/2020: Still works. Still pretty annoyed with the manual feed tray. Also for images and large or complex print jobs, the printer is REALLY SLOW. Spends several minutes displaying "receiving data". Update 10/25/2021: Stopped working today. Had a power outage, now displays a "No Toner" message. All cartridges are at least 90%. Removed and reinstalled, same message. Tried all new toner. Still the same. Tried resetting. Same. Tried firmware update. Same. Did some research and found that this is quite likely a software problem and surprise! this problem typically pops up after 2 years. Brother's FAQ pages say to clean and try new toner. And since it is out of warranty, Brother will not supply support. Here I am after 2 years and 1 month with a door stop. ... show more

Printing Featrures, Quick Print and Instant Dry

I am in a coordinator role for a non-profit organization and was needing a printer at home to prepare materials for the leaders in our group. This printer has worked perfectly for my needs. I was printing large quantities of paper and it printed quickly. I also liked that I had the ability to print in color or black and white. There were also multiple pages that I needed the ability to print front and back of the pages. I have a Chromebook and was able to find a tutorial online on how to get the printer to download to my Chromebook to print. It was super easy to follow, setup and it worked great right away! Worked for less then a year and stopped.

After less than a year the product suddenly wouldn’t register the toner. This did not happen as part of changing the toner it just happened one day it was working in the next day it wasn’t. When I called product support after waiting 30 minutes to talk to somebody who took me through basic troubleshooting and was very hard to hear, they told me they would not help me with the product because I was not using brother ink. I bought this printer because it came highly recommended but it worked less time than most of the other printers I have gotten at least 2 to 3 years out of. I am not a heavy user of the printer. We might print 10 to 20 pages on average a day. I do not recommend this or Brother. ... show more
