Description

Amazon’s choice Brinsea Eco Glow chick brooder for warming newly hatched chicks or ducklings (ASIN B008HVM56Q) has been redesigned to be even safer, more economical and easier to clean. The new Eco Glow 20 Safety 600 chick brooder is ideal for warming up to 20 newly hatched chicks or ducklings and suitable for any waterfowl or game-bird chicks. It is also ideal for classroom hatches. This chick warmer only uses 12 watts (5% of the electricity of typical suspended poultry heat lamps) because the chicks are in contact with its warm under-surface as they would under the mother hen. The new Eco Glow 20 Safety 600 chick brooder uses a metal warming plate which evens out hot and cold spots which occur with plastic heat plates improving heat radiation. The new flared skirt design also retains more heat further reducing energy use. Unlike other chick heating plates the Brinsea Eco Glow brooders run at 12Volt from a mains transformer (supplied) – a much safer option than mains voltage chicken heating plates or heat lamps. Other features include easy height settings for a wide range of chick sizes thanks to the 4 adjustable legs, a generous 10 feet power lead for extended reach, an indicator light, Bio master plastics and a FREE clear cover to make cleaning as easy as possible. Replacement covers are available in a pack of 3 (ASIN B07PZHPRML). 3-Year warranty subject to registration. For brooding larger numbers of chicks see the Brinsea Eco Glow Safety 1200 (ASIN B07PW2S49F)

  • Good brooder for people new to brooding chicks
Size: Up to 35 newborn chicks or 20 older chicks
The panel was easy to set up and use. The little chicks loved running in and out of it as well as taking cozy naps. The only drawback is that you have to adjust the temperature under the panel by raising the panel on the legs. This takes the use of a thermometer to figure out whether you have it at the right height once you start trying to establish or decrease the temperature to get the chicks used to cooler temps. You also have to factor in the room temperature as well as it seems to also affect the temperature under the panel. Since this was my first time with the Brinsea brooder, it was a learning experience. A really good thing about it is that in the case of power burps/outages, it automatically starts back up without having to go in and reset a bunch of digital things. We had a storm that caused numerous power burps, but the unit rebooted itself each time and kept the chicks warm. I would recommend this brooder, especially to folks new to the hatching and brooding of chicks. Update: I bought a second unit a few months later. Just as happy with that one as the first one. I like not having to worry about something getting too hot on the chicks. Just remember to adjust the height of the legs to adjust the temperature of what the chicks are experiencing as they get older--the panel heat doesn't adjust. If you see chicks staying outside the unit to sleep, it's time to adjust the panel to be a little higher. You will also need to adjust as they get taller. Always check the temperature they are experiencing with a good thermometer. ... show more

  • 10/10 for baby ducklings 10/10 for baby ducklings
Size: Up to 20 newborn chicks or 12 older chicks
The size is great. My 5 ducklings fit nice under it with plenty of room. We will see how well it works after they are 3 weeks old since they grow so fast. But seems like it will be just fine for them. There is no noise from the plate. It definitely works well and the clear cover it comes with is a lifesaver when it comes to cleaning. Putting it together was super easy. I pushed the legs in at first to get it through that new plastic feel. But twisting is super easy. Adjusting the legs while in the brooder is simple. Thinking of purchasing the larger one since I plan on adding to my flock again next year. ... show more

  • Peace of mind is worth the cost Peace of mind is worth the cost
Size: Up to 20 newborn chicks or 12 older chicks
My chicks love this heat plate. I love that it’s safer than heat lamps, easily adjustable, you can set it at a slant so the chicks can choose their desired level of heat, and the plastic removable cover makes cleaning super easy. Would recommend!

  • Great Product! Great Product!
Size: Up to 20 newborn chicks or 12 older chicks
This heater works well and seemed more natural for the chicks, like a mother hen. At first I was a little unsure if my chicks were warm enough. You do kind of have to teach them to use it, by gently pushing them under the heat plate. However, after the first day of helping them get into a routine of coming out to eat and drink, they got the hang of it. Overall, I'm really impressed with it, and feel like my birds have feathered out quicker. They hardly use it now at five weeks old and like to lay near it or roost on top of it. I think they'll be more than ready to go outside in a week or two, because they've grown up adapting to the cooler air in my basement because their not constantly under heat like when using a heat lamp. The only thing I would like to see improved is the heat plate cover. It works well at keeping the poop off the actual heater, but it is very flimsy, making it difficult to clean because it has so much flex to it. I would also like to have some kind of attachment so the chicks cannot roost on it. They just make a huge mess! LOL. Anyway, that's not enough of a problem to take away a star. This is an excellent five star product and MUCH safer than a heat lamp. I'm going to carefully pack it away for my next batch of chicks after these ones go outside. ... show more

  • first time using a heating plate, mixed feelings but overall positive
Size: Up to 20 newborn chicks or 12 older chicks
As title states, this was my first time using a heating plate, and I have mixed feelings - not about this brand, but about heating plates in general. I watched youtube videos and read online to figure out you need to put the plate low enough for the chicks to be touching the plate. One end should be higher so they can adjust their temperature. The instructions say to use this inside and ambient temp can't be below 50. I used this inside a barn in early summer when temps were 80s during the day and upper 60-70s overnight, and I had 16 chicks. Description says it can fit 20 chicks, but I think I needed two. I lost 4 chicks in a single day, I don't know if it was the heater or what, there were no pasty butts and they were vaccinated by the hatchery. They just became lethargic and died within hours even after I put them under a heat lamp inside. I've raised chicks before and never had anything like that happen, I can't say for certain if it was because they got cold, but after those 4 died the rest were fine maybe because they could all fit. I was left wondering if I had it set too high, too low on the other end, etc. But overall, I think this is a good choice for people starting a couple chicks inside. It's so much safer than a heat lamp. If I buy that many chicks again, I will definitely purchase a second heater to use with this one. I would be hesitant to use this on it's own in 50-60 degree weather, but for summertime chicks or starting inside, away from drafts, it's fine. ... show more

  • Great so far! Great so far!
Size: Up to 35 newborn chicks or 20 older chicks
I tested this a few days before our chicks arrived to make sure everything is working properly. In this photo the heater was very short, and the thermometer was underneath. At first I couldn’t get it past 86 degrees but the thermometers sensor is on the back, so I flipped it so it was facing the heat plate and the temp was perfect. So if you have an issue where the temp is too low, maybe try that. I love the adjustable legs. My previous producers pride only had 3 height settings so this is huge for me! And the plastic cover will be a game changer for cleaning I’m sure. It is also not too hot to the touch so I’m not worried about my chicks being burned. It is a great size but definitely will not fit 30+ older chicks, I’d say more like 15. So far this is great and worth the price, I will update my rating if anything changes ... show more

  • Lasted 36 hours stopped working
Size: Up to 20 newborn chicks or 12 older chicks
I bought two of these on May 14, '24 for my 17 chicks that arrived on May 23. I set both heat plates up in the brooder. One set a little higher for the larger chicks, one a little lower for the smaller chicks. Both heat plates were working great. They heated up quickly and maintained a safe, but warm temperature. The chicks separated into two groups under the heat plates. In the middle of day two, the chicks under one of the plates began complaining. Upon investigating the source of their discomfort, I found that one of the heat plates was not working. I traced the cord and plug to be sure that it was well seated in the socket, which it was. I unplugged the non-working heat plate and found a different socket. The heat plate did not work in the new socket. It has been placed in the storage shed for repackaging and returning to Amazon. Thankfully, I had an older heat plate, not a Brinsea, that had been in storage for almost five years. Thankfully, it began heating the second I plugged it into the same original socket that the now non-working Brinsea had occupied. We are now on day seven, and both the Brinsea and the other model are still producing heat. Now, for the pros on the Brinsea. It comes with a clear protective, flat cover for the top to protect it from chick messes. My different model has a triangular-shaped cover, making it impossible for chicks to stand on. The Brinsea comes with a nice long cord, making it easy to reach sockets that may be further away from the brooder's placement. The heat from the Brinsea is consistent without hot or cold spots. The legs are adjustable to easily accommodate different-sized chicks. One side can be higher than the other, so smaller and larger chicks can share the Brinsea. Note to size. My 17 chicks, including a Jersey Giant and an assortment of Wyandottes, Cochins, and Bielefelders, barely fit under the heat plate. Beware of claims of accommodating a higher number of chicks unless you are raising banty hens. ... show more
