  • This has been a lifesaver to wake me up in the morning
I get up at 6 AM and natural light really helps me wake up. I was really struggling as the seasons changed this year and I HAD to do something because I could not handle being so exhausted in the AM. With this product, it gradually lights up before the alarm goes off. About 50% of the time, it wakes me up before the alarm, making it much less jarring. It has definitely helped my morning fatigue. If I sleep until the alarm goes off, I usually lie in bed for a few more minutes directly facing the light and this helps dramatically. I leave the light on while I am getting ready for work. The only downside to this is that they have made it somewhat confusing to set the time, alarm, and light. The set buttons are on the sides of the clock. It isn't a big deal, but I did absolutely have to use the instructions to navigate the initial set up process. Luckily the provided directions were very clear and easy to use. This clock has made a world of difference for my mood and energy level in the morning. ... show more

  • Excellent for Jetlag
I purchased this because we have a darker bedroom that doesn't get much natural sunlight, so the wake-up light was essential for readjusting to a huge time change (Japan to the Pacific NW). It took about 2 days to readjust and wake up earlier each day, and the light gradually getting brighter until the alarm goes off worked really well. 99% of the time, I wake up before the alarm, and just turn the alarm option off. You can also adjust the intensity of the brightness, so if you don't want it to wake you up gradually to the brightest light option, you don't have to. I do wish that there was an option just for the wake-up light, and NO alarm, but it's not a big deal. ... show more

  • Does The Job But….
Totally does what’s advertised ☺️ It just doesn’t have a battery backup which would be nice.

  • It works!
I have had a hard time getting up in the dark but not now, I feel like I’m waking up naturally even before the alarm goes off! The light is small so it fits about anywhere.

  • Great alarm clock
This alarm clock is very nice. The slow increase in brightness leading up to the set alarm helps wake me up more slowly. The chime is nice too, not super aggressive like most alarms. Very happy with it and still use it everyday after almost a year.

  • Great Alarm
I really do like this as I can’t stand the noise alarms, I will always sleep through them. Being able to wake up as a process because of the light continuously getting brighter is way more ideal.

  • Great for a quiet household
This is the best light-up alarm clock that I've used. PROS 1. I can't sleep with light in the room, and even I can handle the time on this clock. I had assumed I’d be putting a post-it over it at bedtime, but it’s actually dim enough. When my GF visits, I turn the clock so that the side of the clock faces the bed. The time is so dim that it doesn’t create a glow anywhere visible. 2. When you snooze, the light stays on. 3. The beeps are not harsh or loud. I have a second alarm on my phone in case I miss the sound (it’s not super quiet, but I’m a sound sleeper). I’ve had this a week and haven’t needed the phone alarm – although I’m still using it because it reminds me that I need to get out of bed and not just sit there snuggling my kitty cat ;-) 4. It’s attractive and looks nice on the side of my bed. 5. I don’t have space for a bedside light, so I used to have to snap on a very bright overhead light as soon I woke up. It makes a great bedside clock that is very easy to turn off and on. I like that when I turn it off, it takes several seconds to reach total darkness. It’s the right amount of time to snuggle into bed. 6. It’s more stable than I expected considering the shape of it. 7. The light has a warm tint to it (unlike the regular bulb in my overhead light. The clock isn’t warm – just the color of the light when it turns on in the morning. It’s much nicer than if a regular lamp lights up (which is what my old light-up alarm clock did). CONS 1. I have to change the time’s brightness depending on if it’s day or night. If it’s dark enough for sleeping then it isn’t visible during the day or if a full light is on. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the time’s brightness setting wasn’t set in a weird spot that requires me to use two hands. 2. It takes up more space on my bedside table than my old alarm clock. The roundness means it actually takes up more space than just the space that immediately touches the table. 3. It’s stable for me, but I live alone and have an older cat. I don’t think this would be stable if I still lived in a home with children, or if I had younger cats, this would probably be knocked over regularly. When I did have a visitor in my room, it was jostled enough that to be safe I had to place the clock on its back. 4. The snooze is actually placed in a useful manner – just tap the top of the clock. However, I’m used to slapping the top of my alarm clock to snooze it (which this clock can’t handle). The clock and the sound and the light are new enough that I’m still remembering to tap instead of slap the clock, and hopefully that becomes second nature before the novelty of waking up to this clock happens. 5. It’s white. I’m not sure if it will stay white over time. It’s such a beautiful clock, and I hope that it doesn’t stain as time goes on – I’m going to take a damp cloth to it every weekend when I clean house, so hopefully this doesn’t become an issue. Overall, the PROS far outweigh the CONS for my purposes, but if I still had a rowdy home with kids and cats and lots of adults and constant clatter this would be the wrong clock for me. ... show more

  • Sunrise even in a dark cave
I bought this Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light Therapy Alarm Clock with Sunrise Simulation to help me come out of hibernation, as my bedroom gets really dark like a cave. Great for sleeping, not so great to waking up without the sun shining through. I had seen this types of clocks and got it. I love it. The only reason for the 4-star is what others had mentioned- the wretched alarm noise that you cannot turn off. Very annoying. But as another reviewer mentioned, set your phone alarm to a few minutes before this beast sounds off, and you’ll be fine. The light is so gradual over a thirty-minute time frame doesn’t Step-up” each light brightness as some of the other lights do. I think this is shown in video for this clock. It is such a lovely gradual sunrise indeed! And you can adjust 1-10 the brightness of the final light. It’s a win for me and my sleep schedule. ... show more
