  • Well built, want to mention things other reviewers didn't mention
My first surprise was how heavy this is when it arrived. I have purchased a tow behind tiller and it is very lightweight. This weighs in at 100 pounds since it uses much heavier duty parts. I didn't really have a problem with the instructions since I have built similar items in the past, so I mainly just looked at the pictures and figured it out. Everything went very smoothly, but the part I struggled on the most since I put this together myself, is when it came time to slide the pole through the spikes and connect the handle on the other side, trying to keep the pipe from sliding out the other side and aligning the handle was a tough task. I used a ratchet strap to try and squeeze the sides together as a helping hand but that didn't really help. If you have someone to help you with that part it will be easy, but doing it alone was a task. Also you need a one inch wrench to put those huge bolts on the wheels. I would have liked if the wheels had bearings in them to spin, since the instructions didn't mention this, but I assume you have to adjust the bolts to where they are loose enough to spin the wheel. That is another thing, I put together a lot of items and the nuts are really tough to screw on. This is good to make sure that they won't come loose, but if you are only using a wrench then your wrists will probably end up sore. I usually use a drill for such things, but when the bolt was tightened it caused the drill to jerk in my hand so I stopped using it. I could have used my air drill but didn't feel like getting it. It did a good job aerating and it beats having to rent one at the local store which is usually not in stock. I am sure it will last since it is made of thick metal. ... show more

  • Excellent Aerator
I had low expectations for this product after reading some of the negative reviews. I did not encounter any difficulties from unboxing to cleanup following my first use. There were two things I found a little odd during assembly. The instructions called for several sized wrenches and sockets. My assembly required one size. Also, the screws (bolts if you prefer) had the same sizes packaged separately. None of this is a big deal. I've learned over the years to lay everything out and take inventory before beginning. It's time well spent - in particular with the slightly confusing instructions. Some of the assembly instructions may not make sense. Follow them. It will make sense later. Assembly did not take near as long as reported in reviews. Also, because I followed the instructions, I did not have alignment issues with the holes. Before I forget - you may want to assemble the aerator on a bench or table. Your back will appreciate it The aerator is of a decent gauge of steel. It's not light but you can carry it without too much difficulty. I have a John Deere lawn tractor, sonI did experience the difference in height once attached with the wheels down. I decided to try it with wheels up before making an adapter. It works fine without one. To aerate I added two bags of topsoil instead of blocks - you don't have to strap them down. My yard is a bit over 1/2 acre. There were varying degrees of moisture. The aerator did a fine job across the entire yard. Cleaning was a breeze. It may be a little more difficult with clay. I kind of doubt it. I really did not have to use my hands other than to spin the aerator. Naturally the paint wore off at the points of contact. I did not repaint it. It looks great as is. I think you'll be happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Great Item
Not too bad to assemble just takes time... Very sturdy working on how many cinder blocks need to sink plugs into ground. All round great product so far

  • Solid easy to assemble unit that works great
Looked at other brands before settling on the Brinley. Not dissapointed at all. Assembly was, easy, instructions we're easy to follow, and once complete, worked great being towed behind the JDX350.

  • Aerator
Watered the lawn in the evening. The next morning pulled it around with my riding mower. Two cement blocks in the tray for weight. Worked perfectly. Assembly was not difficult but pay close attention to instructions so that specified parts are facing the correct way.

  • Garbage wheels, needs full rubber to be worth the money
Very basic design. Terrible wheels. The wheels are garbage. Needs full rubber pneumatic tires, not this half plastic BS.

  • It works perfectly
I have used it several times in the past two years, and I have no complaints.

  • Looks sturdy, assembly takes time
The assembly of the aerator takes times. Not complex, but time consuming. Instructions are reasonable. It appears several part, and perhaps manufacturing, changes were made after the instructions were written. As many reviews stated, be prepared for bolts that are missing and/or the wrong size. Also, specified tools are not correct. For example, they call for 7/16" and 9/16" wrenches, when all nuts and hex bolts are 1/2". Okay, no big deal if you have the tools. I also needed a 4 foot clamp to pull it all together before attaching wheels. Yes, I followed instructions. The welded weight carriage was wider than 41 1/8" specification. I had to pull it all in for the bolt holes to align. I agree with other reviews, assembling it on an elevated platform/workbench will help a lot. Follow instructions. That helps, too. Although I haven't used it yet, the quality appears good. Most materials and components seem pretty sturdy, except the paper thin plastic bearings. They'll wear out quickly. Some of the competitve products seem to have gone to cost reduction by way of cost-of-goods and manufacturing short cuts. It appears Brinly chose to stay competitive by passing labor onto the consumer, which is fine by me. I just want a product that works for a decent price. I'll update this review if usability or reliability warrants it. ... show more
