  • mounting
had to mount it on a log splitter that was over 30 years old. Had to move engine about an inch away from hydraulic cylinder. Remounted engine and it worked just fine. A minor mounting situation but well worth it .

  • I took a look at a few of posted reviews and I'm glad I did
Buy American. I needed to replace the engine on my chipper and wanted to do so without dumping a bunch of money. I checked out all the typical sources and found the Chinese dominate that market. Cheep and in stock and I almost bought one. But before I did, I took a look at a few of posted reviews and I'm glad I did. If you're like me, I start from the bad to good on comments. (it saves time) and read several posting how the shafts break off. Who cares how well the engine runs if you can't do any thing with it and where are you going to get parts for it and how long is it going to take to took a lo get them? Briggs & Stratton has been around as long as small engines have been built. They have a reputation that is unmatched and true to that reputation they delivered on my expectation. Out of the box, add oil and gas, started on the first pull and I was in business. Ran it hard for several days chipping up to 4" logs and it performed beautifully. Now for the good news, I only payed $45 more for the 9.5hp Briggs than I would have if I bought the 6.5hp Chinese. This Briggs has a Cast sleeve so it can be rebuilt several times and has a 2yr warranty. It's built for hard work and will do it for a long time. Save yourself a ton of grief, spend a few more $$ and get a Briggs. You will never say "I wish I would have bought that Chinese engine" ... show more

  • Good teaching motor.
The media could not be loaded. I bought this engine for the purpose of teaching my kids how 4 stroke engines work. It’s a good little motor. Typical of modern engines it has a plastic cam shaft and a plastic internal governor. The throttle is a governor control mechanism and basically has two speeds. Idle and about 2700 rpm. It has a fuel shutoff valve, a removable debris catcher, and a float drain. Both are nice as it allows easy removal of the fuel from the carb and tank. I can confirm it has roller bearings for the crank. It’s easy to start with a compression reducer on the exhaust valve. I have added a video of it running at max speed and a photo of it mostly dissembled. ... show more

  • Started right up on the first day.....
The media could not be loaded. The bolt holes were in the same places as the one it replaced. v power equipment sells a kit for the electric starter and fly wheel for this model if it has the holes in the correct places. The old one got too hard for me to start so I got one, worked until the old engine petered out. Thanks Second day of actual use and the most simple thing is keeping me from doing work. 😶 The least complicated part on the whole contraption should not be the first thing to fail. I have the one off the old motor, but come on guys How much would a dab of construction adhesive cost to apply to that knot. A figure eight on a bite might have worked better but it needs to be tied back through itself then snugged ant tightened. Sorry, this is me venting. ... show more

  • Had same problem as Harbor Freight at almost double the price!!!
Super disappointed! I’ve put three engines on my Troy Bilt Horse tiller. Two were from Harbor Freight obviously made in China so I decided to try Briggs & Stratton because I thought they were made in the US. Like some other comments I was disappointed to see they were made in China and when I received the engine today it looked almost identical to the ones from Harbor Freight. I took the four hours to remove the Harbor Freight one and put on the Briggs & Stratton only to have it act identical to the first Harbor Freight engine. As soon as I put the tines of the tiller down into the ground it would go for about 2 feet and then the engine would stop. Tried it at least half a dozen times with the same result. Starts up and runs great until you put a load on it. Sending it back and will either try a Tacummseh or the larger Harbor Freight. ... show more

  • New (Monster) power for and old McLane Edger.
I replaced my 22 year old B&S 3.5 with this monster 9.5 Briggs & Stratton OHV engine. WOW! What a major improvement! I did have to make one minor change to make it fit my McLane Edger. I had to raise the new engine up about 3/4" so the air shroud would clear the edger frame. It was easy to do, I used 5/16x3" all-thread studs to raise the engine. It works GREAT! I have so much power now, I added two more blades to it so it cuts a 1" wide swath between the grass & pavement. I can highly recommend this engine upgrade! ... show more

  • Really happy with this quality engine 😁
My 3hp Briggs engine on my MTD front tiller broke down from about ten years of use. Bought this new engine which is about the equivalent of a 5.5hp and it works like a dream. Everything mounted up perfectly. The shaft was alittle longer than the old engine but after shiming it out no problem. Only wish the description from the seller on dimensions of base, shaft and other things was better. Had to rely on picture to assume everything was close to what I needed. ... show more
