Can you love a trash bin? Brabantia makes wonderful stuff. But my bin arrived with a dented lid. The new bins are made from flimsy thin metal that seemingly cannot survive shipment to a customer. Meanwhile, Brabantia's box and packaging doesn't take into account how Amazon will ship it. Mine arrived inside an Amazon box with lots of room to swim around in. Just minimal paper packing tossed in around the Brabantia box. When it arrived, the outer Amazon box was undamaged, as was the inner Brabantia box. However, one only has to look at how Brabantia protects the lid inside its box to see the problem. If UPS tosses the Amazon box around, the Brabantia lid will get dented, even though it's inside the Brabantia box. And, at least in my case, the dents were impossible to pop out without permanent damage. Chock this up to bad Amazon packaging and UPS's usual handiwork. But beyond that, the Brabantia trash can is great. Not as good as the one it's replacing, though. Brabantia used to build its 30L/8gal step trash bins like a battleship: Much thicker metal outside, a lid that was nearly impossible to dent, a metal removable inner bin with a thick wire metal handle, etc. This new model looks great, but the metal is thin and the removable bin is plastic. How will it hold up? We'll see. It didn't even last the trip to my house, whereas the old one looks like it could have deflected a grenade blast. (The only reason I'm tossing the old one is that the lid detached from the base, after MANY years of service.) UPDATE 8/22/17: Second bin arrived, also dented. Amazon shipped the same way: 29" Brabantia box inside a 37" Amazon box, no packing. The Brabantia box slams around inside the Amazon box, and dents result. Love the trash can. Order number 3 coming up. UPDATE 8/28/17: Third bin arrived. Dented worse than the previous two. This time, Amazon shipped in a box nearly the same size as the Brabantia box. It didn't help. The metal of this bin is so thin, it seems to bend by breathing on it. UPDATE 8/31/17: Fourth bin arrived. This time, Amazon shipped it USPS. But yep, it also arrived dented. This time, the dent was smaller, about the size of a fist, but again, impossible to pop out without ruining the side of the bin (I tried). So, I've now placed my 5th and final order. I'd really like one that isn't dented. But if this product can't even survive shipment, what good is its 10-year warranty? May be time to find another brand. FINAL UPDATE: The 5th bin arrived, also dented, but only slightly, and in the bottom rear, where I can't see it. The lid doesn't sit entirely flat, as where it attaches to the bin is also slightly bent. But I decided to keep this one. Meanwhile, I reached out to Brabantia customer support. They collected my Amazon order numbers to investigate. But as you can see, other buyers also receive bent bins, so this problem is not unusual. The bin is constructed of metal too thin to, in many instances, survive shipment to a customer's home. If you get one that isn't bent, you are fortunate. Brabantia says it has also contacted its person in charge of US shipping. What Brabantia really need to do is contact product development and redesign the gauge of the metal of the bin itself, or the box they place it in. If the gauge were a tad thicker, or the box included foam that entirely encased the bin, there would be ZERO failures. Until Brabantia addresses either issue, I would recommend either buying another brand, or buying only from Amazon so that you can return and return and return at no charge to you until you get a bin you are satisfied with.

Our last Brabantia waste basket lasted almost twenty years!!! The metal pedal mechanism is now plastic. Can’t believe it will last as long. Disappointed in this design change. Now it’s just like every other brand out there.

The trash can is awesome, large nice size with a smooth stainless platinum finish. The peddle operates smoothly and the lid closes quietly. It was delivered with very secure packaging and there aren't any dents on it. The seller also included 3 sturdy trash bags. So glad I ordered it, the one I previously had started to rust and the finish was peeling off. The appearance of it was putting my OCD over the top and in fact, I discarded my old one before I received the new one, because it was bothering me too much. I'm hoping this one doesn't rust easily Overall, at least for quite a while. Overall very nice item, recommend buying!

Beautiful stainless steel trash can replaces older all steel ( and rusted) can by same company. The lid is too light and swings up fast and wildly hits nearby cabinets and does not close - a simple solution is to buy a heavy magnet and place underneath lid opposite from hinge. See picture. Problem solved.

It is probably my fault but it is smaller then my last trash can, the lid doesn’t have a stay open option like my last trash can, and you are supposed to use their trash can liners. But it is shiny and new and looks great!!!! I who’s I would have realized these things were important to me before I bought it.
