  • Works well with my roto-hammer drill.
I have clay soil with lots of rocks. Trying to dig with a regular shovel is near impossible. When I attached this to my roto-hammer drill, I was able to dig multiple holes for planting fruit trees. I also used it to dig a sump pit for a French drain. It works well in the conditions and it hasn't worn down yet. I've been using it for 6 months and it shows no wear. ... show more

  • Impressive
I used this with a Berkstock sp? 1-9/16" SDS-Max demolition hammer to remove a 4-5" diameter magnolia tree, rootball and all. This spade shovel made quick work of the job, freeing the entire rootball in under 5 min. The rootball was to large and heavy for me to pull it out of the ground alone. The spade shovel & demo hammer made the job easy here in the Las Vegas area where our ground is like moon rock. I did sharpen the edge of the spade before going to work and that likely helped with cutting through the roots. At $53, I think priced a bit high ($35 would have been reasonable IMO). And the only improvement I would have welcomed is to make the shank longer by 12". Otherwise, the spade did it's job and showed no noticeable wear after one use. ... show more

  • Robust and lighter than others
I looked at several versions of clay spade attachments, and almost got one at Harbor Freight as it was quite a bit less expensive. In that store, I noticed how freaking heavy it felt and decided to put it back. The hammer drill was already a chunk to throw around and having a lighter bit would be best. When I compared them online, I noticed that one was 5# and this one was 3#. Now that may not seem like much, but added to the tool weight, and with it hanging off the end it will definitely make a difference. The tool itself also has to move that thing back and forth at high speed, and the Bosch at 3# should be more effective. Lastly, the knock off was real rough and chunky in feel and finish, the Bosch is high quality and just as strong. I know it seems expensive for a "shovel" but it's for sure worth it. ... show more

  • Good quality, but not long
Great product if you have hard clay and need to accurately dig a whole. Length is 16” point to point, so you can get down a foot, but beyond that not much more

  • Great accessory for dirt and clay... will tackle tree roots too.
I bought this attachment to be used with the Bauer 11 Amp 1-9/16 In. SDS Max-Type Pro Variable Speed Rotary Hammer from Harbor Freight while digging back a slope in our yard to build a retaining wall. This may be the best accessory I have purchased to be used with a demolition hammer. It powers well through dirt and clay, it does struggle in wet/damp mulch areas but this would probably apply to all clay spades. After cutting 180' linear feet across our lot at a depth of 12-18 inches the bit has very few imperfections. Was able to cut through hidden bricks and tree roots upto 1 - 1.25" in diameter. Larger tree roots did require a reciprocating saw. Given the terrain and what I encountered below ground i was expected the leading edge of the clay spade to be more damaged but Bosch has done a great job with this bit. Would recommend for everyone to have on hand. I've read people having success using a similar setup to quickly dig holes to plant new trees, shrubs and excavate for post holes. I'm a very happy buyer. ... show more

  • BOSCH HS1922 4-1/2" x 17" Clay Spade SDS-Max shank = well worth the money!
I received a genuine BOSCH HS1922 4-1/2" x 17" Clay Spade SDS-Max shank. The spade had BOSCH engaged on the shank and the whole tool was well lubricated and protected form rust upon receipt. Product was received very quickly, well packaged and at a great price.

  • Great tool!
It worked very well to trench for electrical line in a combination of clay and gravel.

  • Well made, Durable Edge, no wear issues over more than a month of use
If you need to work in clay (especially in a confined space), using this with an SDS-Max Hammer will make your job loads easier. Sometimes you may be digging near a home, under a home, even by utilities and you can risk just swinging away with a pick/mattock and a shovel doesn’t really penetrate...this has become an indispensable tool. I have not had any issues, with clay sticking to the spade, nor have I found a case where the spade caused damaged....its like they perfect combination of speed as well as safety - why risk damage when you don’t have to. The spade bit is wide enough that unless you are using way too large a hammer will peel the clay from a block foundation without cracking or disturbing the block. It has increased productivity more than any other single tool that I have employed for digging. They only way I could improve this spade is with a slightly longer shank... ... show more
