I have tried finding good Forstner bits at Home Depot and Lowe's ... all are Chinese knock-offs that get overheated and don't last very long. These bits are made in Austria and come in a very nice wooden enclosure. Their quality is very good, and the price on Amazon is excellent. I definitely am pleased with this purchase and hope you will be too should you choose this kit. Update - after over a year of use, I still am very happy with this product! These bits cut like butter though the hardest woods! ... show more

Not much to say. The Freud FB-100 Deablo Forstner bits cut cleanly, do not cause burning on the wood that I use, and are very well machined and finished. These are not heavy production bits--use carbide bits for that--but are superb for lower levels of use. This review is not based on long time use, so edge retention has not yet been evaluated. Potential buyers should keep in mind that Freud makes, or has made depending on current production, two variations of their Forstner drill bits: PB-100 with, and FB-100 without serrated edges. Do a bit of online research before ordering to learn more about the differences and current price variations. Both styles appear to be of similar high quality. ... show more

    • Excellent bits!
Sometimes one of them will remind me how sharp they are if I'm not careful chucking one up in the drill press. They're extremely sharp and can certainly inflict a razor cut on your finger(s). I often throw on a pair of gloves (which I keep several pair of in the shop) when I chuck one up in the drill. Use for woods of any harness and plywood. 99% no tear-out unless I get in too big of a hurry and rush. ... show more

    • Over priced
I make small projects, mostly ornaments, on a lathe. I was going through big box store bits frequently and wanted something more durable, so I bought this set. Other than the labeling, they were almost identical to cheaper versions elsewhere. I've done five projects now with walnut and hard maple and the bigger bits are done. My process requires 2-3 inch deep holes, 1/16 to 1/8 inch per pass, and I run the lathe at about 300-600RPM depending on bit size. The holes are very flat, especially in maple, and all the bits ran true. But, after about three deep holes, the edges are sufficiently dull to cause burning, even when the speed is down to 300RPM. I cleaned the bits between projects but these lasted no longer than the big box store at double the price. I appreciated having a wide range of sizes in one kit but that's the only upside. ... show more

    • Good bits, but inventory upon arrival
I love these bits! Accurate, clean cuts every time with my drill press. Only problem is my set came with two 1-1/4" bits and no 1-1/2" bit. Didn't notice this until well after the set arrived; still waiting to see if seller is willing to help me out.
