This thing is awesome. I read some of the reviews of people having problems getting it to pump or the tube being kinked. The tube was not kinked when I received it and it doesn't look like something I will have a problem with. At first I did have problems getting it to start draining but that was because after I had positioned the tube over the side of the pool I was standing up with the pump in my hand pumping it, it just didn't seem to want to start draining so then I layed the pump on the ground and pumped it from there after that it works perfectly. Also it doesn't take too too long to drain all of the water. It is so much easier then getting my sump pump out every time I need to drain my tarp. ... show more

My only complaint is the siphon pump. The bulb to squeeze never worked great and just quit working in short order. I did however discover that I could still attach it and just use my mouth on short tube on end of bulb to get water flowing without water getting near mouth. After that it does good job taking water off cover without using power,making a racket, or having to monitor it. ... show more

    • attachable pump siphon slips off
the base is a great device and has worked well, I have a 18 foot pool, so the hose could be a little longer, but was absolutely irritating was the hand held pump to start the siphon, it slips off and is so frustrating!! I started sucking on the hose with my mouth and sadly I did swallow water that was on top of the pool cover. I immediately through up and I am on a 24 hour, I might go septic observation phase.... UPDATE - I see now that it can SOMETIMES be troublesome to get the siphon going.. It is really strange, but after leaving it in the pool between rains, if there's any water left in the tube, but it's not full.. (ie: there's air bubbles throughout the tube) it wont start the siphon. It is totally counterintuitive to me, but the best way I have found to get it started again is to COMPLETELY EMPTY the tube and start over. When the tube is empty, it starts up no problem, but when there is SOME water in it, it has a problem, and no amount of pumping seems to get it started. I can't say I understand how or why, but if you're having problems, give this a try.. it has worked for me this way several times.. Still loving the device itself.. it's not getting clogged with the leaves I was too lazy to clear out before our latest rain. ORIGINAL REVIEW - Had it connected and siphoning within 2 minutes or so of opening the box.. Unwrap the hose. connect it to the main part of the unit, and squeeze the bulb 4 or 5 times.. Those who had problems with getting the siphon running may have had a cut in the tube or something, or maybe hooked up the wrong end of the siphon bulb, but it worked for me instantly.. Tubing is thin, so it is kind of flattened out from being coiled in the box, but water is flowing, and it doesn't have to be fast I would probably prefer a more rigid tubing, hence the one star down on the durability, but for the price, the thing is great.. If it lasts one winter, I'll be totally happy, but other than the tubing, it seems pretty well built. ... show more
