Features

  • LIGHTWEIGHT POLYETHYLENE MESH - Crafted from high-quality, lightweight polyethylene mesh, this in-ground leaf net is treated to protect it from the elements. The material is designed to be strong yet flexible, ensuring it can handle the weight of accumulated leaves and debris without tearing or stretching.
  • QUICK FALL CLEAN UP - Perfect for regions that experience changing seasons, this leaf net is intended to rest on top of your winter cover, capturing leaves and debris throughout the fall. By removing the net before the first heavy snowfall, you prevent leaves from collecting on your cover, ensuring your pool remains in peak condition for the following spring.
  • EFFORTLESS MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE - Cleaning and storing the net is a breeze. Simply brush off the collected leaves, allow the net to dry completely, and store it in a cool, dry place. This easy maintenance routine extends the life of the net and keeps it ready for use year after year.
  • EXTENDED OVERLAP, REINFORCED GROMMETS - Featuring a 4-foot overlap, the leaf net is designed for a secure fit over your in-ground winter cover. Integrated water tube loops are spaced every four feet, providing additional security and stability (water tubes sold separately). Water tubes and reinforced corner grommets ensure the net stays in place, even in windy conditions.
  • 4-YEAR WARRANTY - Purchase with confidence knowing your leaf net is backed by a 4-year warranty. The first year is fully covered and each following year is prorated, providing peace of mind and protecting your investment for multiple seasons.

Description

Eliminate the mess caused by decaying leaves each spring. Install a dirt defender leaf net over your winter cover this fall and make spring opening quick and easy. The leaf net's tight mesh traps even the smallest leaves before they reach your winter cover. Other brands of leaf nets have larger mesh that allows small leaves to pass through to your winter cover and decompose in the spring. Simply lay the dirt defender leaf net on top of your winter cover when you close your pool and remove it before the first snow. Your cover will be virtually leaf free and spring clean-up will be a snap. Eliminates that messy swamp of decaying leaves. Above-ground leaf nets have an extra 3-feet overlap and include a cable and winch to hold it securely in place over your winter cover. Black mesh fabric.

The net worked well for our temporary need for protecting our pool while way for a month. Using water filled tubes around the outside held it in place well with the loops that are on the net. Easy to install and remove (with two people).

  • Excellent choice for year-round open pool in NE Florida
Size: 36' x 18' (Rectangular)
Some important background info before proceeding with my review: I live in NE Florida where full pool closures are not only rare they are actually discouraged. The weather is such that the pool water will never freeze over, however it does become too chilly for most folks to tolerate between November and April. My water temp falls below 70 in late October/early November and isn't comfortable again until Late March/early April (case in point, it's January and the current water temp is 47*F). I run my pool pump year round to keep the water clear, and run the pump continuously during periods of hard freeze to prevent the pipes from freezing. That said, I purchased this cover to keep leaves out, not ice or snow. As such, there is NO full liner between my net and my pool water. I found an 18 x 36 pool leaf net "NIB" at Pinch-a-Penny for $130 but wanted to try Amazon first. I am *SO* glad that I did! I found this one in "Used/Like New" condition for a fraction of the NIB price (around $42). When it arrived, it was not in the original box, however it did have instructions and the net itself was neatly folded. I'm guessing this one was a factory 'second' due to the large seam running the length of the net and three 10-12" seams that appear to be repairs. Aesthetics aside, there are no holes and it works beautifully. I was able to deploy this net, by myself, in less than 15 minutes. Two people would be able to deploy this is less than 5, I'm certain. It is designed to lay on the surface of the water, not suspend over it, as I originally thought. Even though it is in contact with the water, the leaves remain dry and it has yet to 'dip' or 'sag'. The net does does not inhibit circulation and I can still pour chemicals, retreive water samples and access my skimmer with ease, though the last one is no longer a necessity, since my skimmer has been empty since deploying the net (a sure sign that it works!) I am extremely pleased with my Dirt Defender pool net and look forward to seeing if it will capture those pesky little crepe myrtle blossoms next fall as well as it is the oak leaves now. ... show more

  • Working well, strong for it's weight.
Size: 20' x 40' (Rectangular)
I'm using this leaf net for a garden pond actually, not a pool. Although the netting material appears a little thin, it is actually stronger than expected. The hole size is fairly small which is good for keeping most all tiny leaves and such from getting through. I bought a size that was a good deal larger than I needed because I'm using large stones around the edges to keep it in place, just taking the excess over the stone and tucking it in under the backside. My biggest concern, aside from keeping leaves out of the pond, was my dogs. They use the pond for playing and drinking, general good times. The previous net I used was plastic mesh (this new one may be plastic ? but has more of a fabric feel) and very thin strands. By the end of fall, it had numerous rips in it from them stepping on it to get into the shallow water areas and play. The Dirt Defender, in my application, still sags into the water since I don't have any floats or framework across the pond to keep it up, but it's gotten no tears yet despite the same canine treatment. The leaves still get in the water but stay on top of the net where I use a long handled dip net to pull them out every couple days. The water gets discolored brown but the problem of rotting leaves accumulating on the bottom (and robbing oxygen from the fish) is greatly reduced. I'll remove it once most of the leaves are down, another 2-3 weeks, dry and store it until next year. Hopefully I'll get a few season's use out of it. The material along the edges of the leaf net, as another review noted, is the plastic rain tarp type of material. Pretty cheap crinkly stuff. The way I'm using it, it makes no difference though. This cheaper material is my reason for the 4 star vs 5 star rating. ... show more

  • Pleasantly Surprised
Size: 20' x 40' (Rectangular)
I am providing this for those looking to keep leaves out of their pool, particularly during fall winter. I has a 18x36 pool and used a relatively strong mesh cover during the winter months in middle TN. I have a solid cover that lays on the water of an unground pool. The mesh lays on top of that with air pillows between the two to keep the mesh above the cover. This aids in blowing leaves off of it. This cover comes in a rather small box. I was skeptical the mess would hold up as it is thinner than my previous one. This new one has been on my pool a couple of weeks (no cover yet). I run rope through the eyelets which are about 4-5 feet apart around the perimeter of the mesh cover. The rope loops over concrete brass hold downs for the cover. This keeps tension on the mesh cover which works well for me. My only concern with this cover is how durable it will remain and the number of years I can reuse it before having to buy another. Bottom line is that this so far seems to be well made and more durable than it appears. Be careful not to snag it on concrete imperfections or other things that could snag it. Be patient spreading it out over your pool. One note for those that are in need of visual perfection. Due to the width, my cover has a seam where two pieces are joined. Conversationally, 15 feet joined with a 5 foot width. Not an issue for me as long as it remains joined and doesn't split apart over time. This mesh cover also has water bag loops spaced around the perimeter for those that need that method of holding it in place. Additionally, we do not get much snow or extended freezing temps, so I can't speculate on cold weather durability. ... show more

  • Ok, but get the cover w/bags
Size: 50' x 30' (Rectangular)
Works well...just wish it came w/bags to fill w/water to hold down. We had to use cement blocks, bricks & other heavy objects.

  • It works as anticipated It works as anticipated
Size: 32' x 16' (Rectangular)
Order arrived ahead of schedule and was as others have said, small netting size with good edging. I was very happy with the quality and wanted to put it to the test. I live in Florida and my pool is exposed to the element, with no screen enclosure. I have just the net over the pool and it has been through 2 pretty strong winter storms so far (in Florida winter storms have high winds and heavy rains), the net did as I expected, no leaves got past the net and into the pool. Our neighbor has an enormous rain tree which sheds a ridiculous amount of leaves this time of year. I bought the net because I would come home to my skimmer being clogged with leaves and my pump struggling to get water flow. Since I added the net I have no problem at all with leaves clogging the skimmer. I feel the net will last several seasons for me, obviously there is no way for me to say how it would perform further north. I would buy this again, if I need to, and do recommend it for those in my similar situation, I now have piece of mind when I leave my home for a few days R & R. You can see by the picture I need to work on a better solution to hold the net in place but I wanted to test it out before I spent a lot of time and money on weights. The picture is after I cleaned 5+ pounds of leaves off from last nights storm (that storm lasted over 20 hours and had 50 mph winds with 4" of rain which overflowed the pool). Our pool is 14' x 35' and we bought the 16' x 32' size since it said it was 4' wider than those dimensions and it fits well, the width is a lot wider than the pool but you can see I just rolled one side up and weighted it down. ... show more

  • A free form size would be nice but just be creativve A free form size would be nice but just be creativve
Size: 36' x 18' (Rectangular)
Our freeform pool is barely 20 x 25 and the best option was the 18X36. The net is actually 22 x 40 and is huge so it took some creativity to give us deck space. Cutting is not an option as it would just cause problems so we rolled it as close to our shape and used tie wraps at regular intervals. It's not perfect but I was able to pull the cover off fairly easily to clean and add chemicals. It is sturdy enough yet very light to handle. It takes some adjusting to get all the sides settled, but they adjust nicely once the pump is off and the jets aren't directing it. There is a roll that runs under the waterfall and seems to work fine that way. We are divers and had a supply of soft scuba weights that worked perfectly without spending more on water tubes. They are like little bean bags but drain well and the 3 lb weights did the trick. We are in south Florida and only really need this in the early spring when the winds have been howling and leaves are falling faster than we can skim. However, you CAN easily user your pool net and skim gently across the mesh to clean most of the leaves off. Daytime pictures were hard to get a good angle but hopefully the evening picture gives an idea of how it settled in. So far it has worked well and the price couldn't be beat. ... show more

  • Very poor quality material/weave -- runs throughout immediately on first use -- see pics Very poor quality material/weave -- runs throughout immediately on first use -- see pics
Size: 36' x 16' (Rectangular)
The product is extremely poor quality, and the company says in the directions that were included that I must pay shipping to return, which is contrary to normal Amazon return policy, and was not stated anyway on Amazon when I purchased the product less than a week ago. The moment we put the tiniest amount of tension on the material it immediately had breaks and runs show up. Complete waste of money which, fortunately, wasn't that much. The attached pictures show two examples of the runs that appeared along the entirety of one side. The picture of the pool with the net on it shows that the net was properly installed according to the company's directions, which stated, "Your leaf net is sized for a maximum water drop below the deck of 18". I will not be returning the item, where the company states in the directions, "If it is requested that the leaf net cover be returned, the return freight must be prepaid." Shipping UPS would be at least $20, and its unclear what the company would do if I did ship it to them. Better to simply move on, post this review to warn others, and be glad it wasn't very expensive even if the true value was less than $0 since I had to waste time setting it up. ... show more
