My impression of this item is mixed with positive and negative ratings, so I'll start with the positive. Unlike the old Blu-Ray, Dvd players of the early 2000's, many of the ones today aren't built the same. Since I'm old school, I'm still trying to decide if or whether that affects the quality. Nevertheless, This unit shows a brilliant full HD 1080P picture that plays Blu-Rays, as well as DVDs. It's very light, the size is compact, comes with cables and remote, and is very easy to install. So far I have not tested the Region Free component but I'm going to go for that until I know otherwise. The compatibility and speed are reliable. Now, the negative points of this unit is that it is operated manually. If you don't like your sitting comfort disturbed, it requires getting up every time to flip the lid inorder to change the discs, then this ain't for you. The remote is another questionable part. It doesn't have standard navigational features. There is no stop, start, pause, or buttons that leave out alot of guess work. Here, you're basically on your own with unrecognizable letters and symbols. If you're okay with these features, the sacrifice may be worthwhile. Saying all of that, the unit is not cheap, but in comparison to the old dinasours of the early 2000s that featured all the bells and whistles, and infact, are still going strong today, I would go further to add the recommendation to this unit as an aquired taste. But, this is a new time, with new technology. For the cost, you may get one bell with one whistle. It is what it is.

Basically plug and play. It's small compared to our old DVD player. I've never used Blu Ray technology before so this was my first try. I bought it so I could watch the Star Trek The Next Generation Blu Ray series. The sound and picture quality is like night and day when compared to the standard DVD movies and shows. With the advent of larger TV's most of the old 80's and 90's television series are kind of blurry but Blu Ray makes them crisp and clean. So much so that I can see the dings in props from moving them around on set as well as fingerprints on the LCARS screens etc. What I like is the size of the unit. Takes up minimal shelf space.
