  • Great Blu Ray Player
Only complaint is that the remote isn't quite as snappy as say a smart TV, but hey who cares. The interface is great and it was easy to set up. I wouldn't count on using the streaming capabilities though, at least YouTube was almost unusable because the streaming quality was so bad (it was perfectly fine on other devices like my laptop). ... show more

  • Best option for a modern blu-ray player :)
Getting back into physical media has been so easy with this player, it’s played every DVD I’ve gotten without a problem. Some of the buttons on the remote either don’t work or I’m not understanding it, but it’s not important enough for me to knock off a star, because the buttons I actually use work perfectly. A really, really great blu-ray player that is well worth the price :) ... show more

  • About what you would expect from a sub $100 player
Picked this up and GoT Bluray set. This seems to play the discs very well. Picture quality is as it should be. But it does pause and skip a bit when loading discs. Response time from when you click a button on the remote to when the player does whats its supposed to is a few seconds at times when loading or if the disc skips. First disc of the GoT BR set I got just stopped playing during the second episode. Not this players fault, sending back the disc set for a replacement. But I cant help to wonder if a better player would be able to handle a questionable disc better... In any event, overall and for the price, worth it. ... show more

  • Solid, basic machine
Good compact machine, very easy setup, simple and quick connection to my home wifi, quick loading of BD discs and DVDs. A good, basic machine, low cost, and seems "solid" in every way. The remote is simple (uncomplicated) and very serviceable; it's small, but no bigger than it needs to be, which is very good. If the unit has any down side, I'd say that the services it comes supplied with in the online area are mostly not useful to me, most seem expired or don't deliver anything. There's not yet a firmware update (as of March 23, 2023) available for the machine, and maybe an update will contain new and more useful icons to click on which will be up to date and operable, we'll see. I like this machine!, and it supplements another Sony BD player of mine which has been made "region-free" for BDs and DVDs, but which has no wifi capability. The two players now use up both HDMI inputs into my LG TV. Another great provision of this player is that it comes along with an HDMI cable in the package. I think it is a bargain at the price. EDIT [added March 26, 2023]: I find that the user manual is unclear or incorrect about ADDING apps to the "[My Apps]" area of the Home Screen. Here is what works for me: To ADD apps to the [My Apps] area, first click the large "+" (plus) sign in the [My Apps] area. A new screen of apps, "[All Apps]", will appear. In that new screen of [All Apps] icons (tiles), click on one that you want to add to [My Apps]. The selected app will then appear in [My Apps]. To add more apps from [All Apps] to [My Apps], repeat this. I have not yet tried REMOVING apps from [My Apps], but I'll take a look at that soon. -- J.L.M. EDIT [added March 29, 2023] To REMOVE an app from [My Apps], click "Options" and use the Remove selection. ... show more

  • Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money! While the picture is sharp, that's where the good part ends. This is the worst DVD player that I have ever owned. The fact that it's a Sony is even more disturbing! I've owned multiple Sony's over the years and never had any of the following issues that I've had with this one: 1. On some Region 1 and Multi-Region DVD's, it will not allow alternate languages, or subtitles to be used... and yes, the firmware was current. And yes, I do know how to clean and service electronic equipment. In this regard, it's hit or miss. 2. Often, when a DVD has been paused or stopped and the player goes into hibernation mode, or is later turned off, the player does not remember where the DVD was last stopped at, so you have to figure that out from your memory. Again, this is hit of miss. 3. Often, when you insert a DVD, the player won't read it, and you have to cycle the eject button again in order to get it to read the DVD. This happens on videos previously used in the same player. Again, this is hit or miss. 4. Approximately 3 weeks into use, the audio would pop and crackle at various points during a movie. This is reminiscent of what old record players did when the needle encountered a scratch. However, it will do this on both brand-new DVD's as well as old ones that have been previously played in the same unit. It's completely random, but often happens during climactic moments in your movie. It's really, really annoying. 5. The latest issue is with random locking of the entire unit after doing a pause or a stop. The unit will stop responding to all commands, including the eject or power button on the physical unit. The only way to get around this is to unplug the power, wait about 10 - 15 seconds and then plug the power back in. This unit was received in late March of 2023. This review is dated 08/20/2023. - So, we are talking about approximately 5 months of possession/usage. With the previous Sony's that I've had, the only issue would typically be with the drive belt deteriorating over time, and that was easily fixed by replacing the drive belt. Typically, I'd get 3 - 5 years use out of the old Sony's before the motor finally gave out. Save your money and save yourself a lot of aggravation... please buy something else. ... show more

  • Good Basic namebrand DVD/Bluray Player
Standard Sony BluRay disc player. Not many frills but offers streaming of basic video platforms when connected to internet (wirelessly.) Easy to use. Easy to connect. Very small for tight spaces, we put ours in our camper. Picture is as good as the TV's resolution will support, 1080i is the max. Plays DVD and Blu-ray's but not 4K. ... show more
