This is a low cost Blu Ray/DVD combo player that keeps the price down without skimping on performance. I was not familiar with the WISCENT brand but I couldn’t pass this up after seeing the list of compatible formats and the fairly miniscule price point. I have a large collection of DVD-R and DVD+R discs and I wanted to be able to play them, along with my regular DVDs and Blu Rays in my basement man cave. I am happy to report that this unit plays them all without any problems and it even automatically plays the handful of PAL DVDs that I picked up over in Europe a few years ago. I was also pleased that the unit has an input for a USB flashdrive and will play mp4s, mkvs, mpegs, and m4ps. The only format that I have tried that it hasn’t accepted is avi. The unit upscales to 1080p. I had initially hooked it up via the AV cables that had been connected to the previous DVD player that was in place. I immediately noticed that my Blu Rays weren’t playing through to my TV screen. I checked the directions and it clearly notes that you must use the HDMI connection to play Blu Rays discs. I changed the connections and now everything plays smoothly. You get all the cables that you’d need, a manual, and a handy intuitive remote control unit. I had the entire system up and running within 10 minutes. So far, so good. I am very happy with this player and I’m especially glad that I was able to save a lot of cash due to the affordable price. My only concern at the moment is durability – if that proves to be a problem at any point, I will be sure to come back to update this review. As it is, right now, I couldn’t be happier. ... show more

Its compact size is like that of a standard cable box these days, maying it blend right in with your entertainment center. It’s played every BluRay I’ve gotten and is responsive to all inputs I try with the remote. Installation was simple and quick, just a power cord and hdmi cable. So far, so good! I bought this model on Sale for a backup to my old Blu-ray player. Even though I bought it on 10/24 I finally hooked it up in June of this year. After readings of the Customer Reviews I haven't had any of the problems that were mentioned as being bad! After playing more than 20 movies(have over 300), I have had no problems. Granted that something "could" happen with age but so far, so good. I do have a minor problem with though. The movie doesn't appear on the TV when I hit "Play". With my TV on this Blu-ray player apparently doesn't send some kind signal to let the TV accept the movie? In my old Panasonic Blu-ray(Blu-ray stopped playing years ago) I hit play and the Input switched automatically Cable to HDMI input. Movie now appears! Walla! Onto my new Blu-ray player. When I press Play" I see the digital counter on the player advancing. No movie!? Why? I have to manually move the input to where the movie is playing. 1st, go to my home page. Move Cursor from Cable to Input. Then move Cursor to HDMI1. Walla! Movie appears! Granted, it's only 2 steps but it should have played automatically! As far as the Remote? No problems. Easy to use. This little box has no problem playing the Region 2 DVDs that my much more expensive all-regions/all zones player would not. HDMI output works transparently with my TCL TV and sound bar. Produces the best picture quality I'll ever get from ancient, converted British TV shows. I gave it 4 stars because the remote control has the play/pause button in a really odd place.
