  • Great for leaves!
Works great for leaves! Mulches into small pieces that's perfect for compost. My only gripe is the weed eater strings are great for leaves, but if bark or sticks get put in there, it will chew up the strings quickly. I recommend getting a better quality string and cutting them to length. Seems to last longer if sticks accidentally get put in. Amazon, Lowe's or Home Depot sells good quality weed eater string that is pretty inexpensive. I believe the size is .105. ... show more

  • Works well, loud and wear a dust mask and safety glasses
Easy to build. As other reviewers noted, it is loud! Some recommended wearing a dust mask which I DID NOT, the first time I used it and paid a price for it. It shreds well so you are breathing dust and you don't realize it until you start coughing and coughing. Also recommend safety glasses. It's basically a weed eater inside a drum. Wasn't too impressed with how well the leaves fed into the hopper. I guess it depends what size leaves you are talking about, I found myself having the manually force feed large amounts of leaves into the shredder using my rake. Not sure on whether it can handle twigs and small branches that often end up in the pile of leaves, I was careful to make sure it was just leaves I was feeding it. It does compact very well however. ... show more

  • Works better than expected
So far so good! Used it once, and it worked really well, even on wet leaves. Changing out the plastic lines was pretty seamless too, accidentally had a piece of metal go in and break the original lines, but 30 seconds to change out the spinning points and worked like nothing happened. Will update after more use since I have a lot of yard to grind through ... show more

  • Best investment for me and my garden
Oh I love this thing!! Although as others have claimed the sting doesn’t last long I bought a tougher brand with metal but it really didn’t last much longer but now worries it is super easy to change and I took nothing apart and I have bad arthritis and it was so simple. But I did have quite a bit of small sticks and the occasional rock. It took care of moist leaves mixed with dried leaves it shredded them just like the dry. As others have said really need a mask otherwise have your nasal wash ready because it’s dusty, I didn’t use a mask and had to wash my sinuses out twice!! But I love it and my garden worms love it. I use the fine setting and it did wonderful!! ... show more

  • Inexpensive but effective
I processed 2 large 30 gallon bags and a 95 gallon barrel. So approximately 155 gallons of leaves. It took about 45 minutes, and I actually ran the leaf debris through twice to get as fine a powder as possible. I stopped at running through twice because the string was almost completely used up after all that. For a relatively inexpensive tool, this exceeded my expectations. ... show more

  • One man's opinion...
I am glad that I waited until I used it a few times before writing this review. If I had reviewed it after the first use I would have only given it 1 star. However, I have since learned a few tricks using it and am liking it more. This has been my experience so far. Pro's: #1. It mulches the leaves into a very fine mulch making it easy to turn large piles into just a few bags saving trips to the landfill. #2. It was one of the easiest things I have ever assembled with very clear directions. #3. It is very lightweight and easy to move around. Cons: #1. It is painfully slow. I think I read it can mulch 55 gallons a minute, I don't think it can mulch 55 leaves in a minute. I have a small lot .4 acres and around 20-25 trees. Last week I spent over 10 hours mulching leaves. #2 It eats line VERY quickly. On average I was having to replace lines after every two 30-gallon bags I filled. I highly recommend that you order extra lines with it. #3 it clogs constantly, especially after the line becomes worn. I now keep a yard tool wooden handle available to free the mulch that clogs around the funnel cover to keep things moving along. It is fun to use, however plan on investing a lot of time when you use it. ... show more

  • Works...but
Works as advertised...however the twine they use is cheap and fails rapidly.

  • Great to create mulch.
Works great--we use it to grind leaves for mulch and hay/straw for cover over new seed. It creates a lot of dust and is loud, so a dust mask and hearing protection is recommended.
