  • Works better than an upright in some instances...
I purchased my Spotclean on Amazon over a year ago (6/2013). It has worked almost flawlessly for my intended purpose. I use it to clean my carpeted stairs, stained carpet areas, upholstered chairs, and even my car interior rugs. I also just used my Spotclean to 'clean' up the mess left behind by my decrepit Bissell Proheat 2X steam cleaner. It had left awful dirt streaks everywhere. With the help of my 3 year old, we used the Spotclean to clean up the dirt streaks. The SpotClean is relatively easy to use and requires a little less effort to pull out, assemble and clean up than my Bissell Proheat 2X (which is being replaced). The suction on the hand tool is excellent. However, it DOES require a bit of hand force to extract the water. I don't mind because I want the area to dry quicker. Also, you will have to use your hand to scrub the carpet a bit if your stain is stubborn. I think some people may have unrealistic expectations concerning these machines. A hand tool does require your 'hand'. So, I consider these efforts minimal to achieve my desired results. The SpotClean has cleaned approximately 90% of the stains I have attempted to clean. I have a husband, 3 teenagers, a 3 year old, and a Cairn Terrier. So, I consider this a small feat. I have NOT used it to clean blood, wine, or ink. I really need to get a new upright steam cleaner because I can always tell where I've used my SpotClean because the area is lighter than the surrounding carpet. This is because the SpotClean did its job. The SpotClean is compact and easy to move around. It is compact enough to sit on standard stairs without toppling over. It has a bit of weight when the chambers are filled but not enough to cause fatigue by my standards. I am a 5'3 woman, and I don't lift weights. Some mentioned the desire for a longer hose and a retractable and/or longer cord. However, I think the hose length is adequate since you can easily move the SpotClean from Point A to Point B. If it is too long, then it is unmanageable to re-coil, then you would have another set of complaints from people. Also, if the cord length was longer, it would take more time than I care to spend to wrap it up. A retract feature would be one more thing to break and then we would really complain. Regarding the noise, it is louder than I would prefer but it may be just as loud as a standard vacuum cleaner. It does not bother me enough to do sound comparisons since I am just cleaning spots. I think the SpotClean cleans a decent area on one fill up. I admit, I do more 'area' cleaning than spot cleaning sometimes. Once you have taken the time to pull it out and assemble, you want to clean ALL the spots you see. If you are doing a full set of stairs, it will definitely require 2 fill ups. I pour the dirty water down the toilet instead of my laundry sink. I recommend rinsing the hand tool and the water chambers when you finish a job. I try to let the chambers dry overnight before re-assembling to put away. However, I have left the water chamber with the cleaning solution and water between uses without any problems. You will also need to spot check for lint build up on the red filter that is covered by the water chamber. You can wipe off the lint easily. These are all just precautionary steps to reduce 'yuck' build-up and musty smells. Remember that carpet cleaning is a dirty job. No matter how convenient the machine is, we still have to clean the filth collected from our handy little devices. My last recommendation is to use the recommended Bissell cleaning solution. It smells wonderful!!!! A little is all you need. Do not use more than recommended. As a matter of fact, I use a little less because I do not want excess shampoo in my carpet. ... show more

  • Cleans great and has lasted a while now
TLDR: really effective cleaner. containers could be designed better. A little loud but overall i highly recommend! I have had my spot cleaner for over 2 years now! It still works just fine. The only part i’ve had to replace was the hose. I have attached some pictures to show that process. Part of the adapter for the different brush heads broke while i was working on a friends couch. The hose was looking a little crummy so i just replaced the whole thing. The Bissell website had the hose for a cheaper price so you might check there if you need one. The containers are really easy to insert and take out. Mixing the cleanser to use the spot cleaner is really easy as well! I did notice that if i don’t do a pretty thorough job of vacuuming up all the cleanser, i might get a faint mildew smell sometimes. The waste container doesn’t open though so you have to continuously try to tip it over and let the water come out of these two little holes and then gunk can build up in there (don’t know why they didn’t just design some way to unlatch it). I would also suggest taking it a little easier on the solvent because i think it has slightly faded some of the color of my furniture. It is a pretty loud machine! You are not going to want to run this at night if you have thin walls in an apartment or have people at home. Despite my critiques, these issues are minor! The level of clean this thing provides is a total game changer and has helped me out with pet messes, old furniture, cleaning the seats and floors of my car, rugs, etc., etc. I use different heads depending on if i’m cleaning furniture or the carpet. If you like to keep your place clean, this machine is super effective! ... show more

  • My new favorite toy
We have white carpet and a new puppy. I was getting tired of the Oxyclean, towels and elbow grease method and didn't want to keep renting a Rug Doctor or shelling out for a pro cleaner every few weeks (let alone living with the stains and smells in between cleanings), so I decided on getting one of these. I'm really happy with this little workhorse. I was deciding between this model and the pet specific SpotBot. I chose this one because of its larger tank capacity and multipurpose design (use on stairs and cars). Plus, in case of larger stains, I didn't want to have to move the unit in case it couldn't all fit under the circular cleaning area. Got this yesterday and used today. The first thing I noticed was the minimal amount of packaging in this box. No styrofoam either, so that's always good. It's already assembled - just snap on one of the brush tools. This came with a 3in and 6in. Pretty much identical attachments except for the width so I thought that was a bit redundant but I suppose the narrow one could come in handy for tighter spaces, wherever those might be. This came with a small bottle (8oz) of Deep Cleaning solution but I had also purchased the Pet Stain & Odor solution and used that instead. Filling up the tank was super easy. Just unscrew the cap and fill to the line with hot water (heat helps with cleaning) and add a capful of solution. I like that the tank has a flat side to sit on while you fill it. Then screw the cap back on, place back in unit, plug it in, press the only button that's on there and you're ready to go. At first I didn't think the spray trigger was working, but that's because it's a pretty fine mist and I was working with white carpet. I sprayed (1in above carpet like instructed), counted to 10 (thought I should give it some time) and then vacuumed. I was delighted to see the solution being sucked back and the carpet getting cleaner. Do not expect an instant squeegee-like result - you'll have to take a couple passes spraying and vacuuming. I experimented with going up and down, then in diagonals. I pressed down quite a bit to make sure all the liquid had been sucked up so that got a bit tiring but the results are worth it. The carpet looks really great and the scent from the Pet solution is nice but slight, which I like. Cleaning up was a breeze too. Pull out the dirty tank, swing the lever/handle down, take off the top and pour it out. Rinse out both tanks and take off the attachment to rinse that too. The hose dripped a bit, as did the clean tank when I took it out from the unit but I'm ok with that. The hose and the power cord wrap up nicely and lock into place. This unit is compact, relatively light and quiet (come on, it's a vacuum), super easy to use and works well. ... show more
