I bought this splitter for a tree i cut down on front yard. I reviewed alot of others, but this one was the best for its price and power it has, I can tell you, i been trying to beat this log splitter to the ground and so far, after 3 cords of wood i have split, this is still going like a beast. I have maybe sharpened the wedge on it, once .Would help more if i sharpened it more I have never filled liquid in . I have kept this outside in rain, and dirt all over it. Still, it keeps on going.. I have split tree cuts close to 30 inches in diameter, some even more larger. I had dug a trench for the log splitter to kind of sit in, ground level so i can roll the logs over it to split. Check out the photos. you can see the size of logs to the wheelbarrow, give you an idea on diameter. Once i split it, you can see other end on almost split through.(Photos are out of order, but it's the 3rd and 7th photo that it cracked, the 6th photo is the log split in half). Once i gave it a wiggle, it broke in half. After that, you just keep splitting those pieces up. Tip, i put wood on the ground for me to roll the log up, onto the splitter. If i have to every buy another log splitter again, it will be this one... For the price of it and what it can do..... WOW. So amazed. Showing you, that this log splitter can and will split larger logs, than what is written on requirements. Really, the only bad things i had was that the front metal supports are thin, and the bolts get lose fast. Keep an eye on those, maybe put Loctite on those bolts. Last, is the knob where you loosen up for the Fluid to release, that knob is now broken half off, because a log hit it, as it was splitting, But, its okay now, it was just the plastic ,that got broken, i can still twist it close or open by hand..

This thing works on logs much thicker than I thought it should handle. I think the biggest ones were about 12 - 14 inches in diameter and about 14 inches long since that's the length my woodstove needs. I've primarily split Osage Orange, Red Oak and some Locust. So far it hasn't met a log it didn't split but I try to not do really big pieces. It is a little annoying that you have to hold the button down with one hand and work the actuator lever with the other, it makes it more difficult to hold the wood steady when lining up your split it where you want. Still, for its size it splits surprisingly well. I think if it holds up over time it is a great little splitter for my wood supply.

I was skeptical at first if this wood splitter would work on recently cut mesquite wood. Mesquite is a very hard wood on chain saws and any thing you throw at it .. Down here in Texas we have a lot of it and I cut a cord or two every February or March to last me the whole year.. Being over 65 doesn't help me swing my log splitter like I use to, after searching for a splitter and all the reviews I decided on the 6 ton Bilt Hard electric splitter.. Found a good deal on Amazon and free delivery to my front door for three hundred flat including taxes.. It came in a card board box that's seen its better days, however nothing seem damaged.. Its heavy to lift (80 to100lbs) but the wheels really make a difference .. I got a 10 gauge extension cord as recommended for use and got to work.. After checking the hydraulic fluid level and reading the operations manual I placed a green cut mesquite 6in. log on the splitter.. I was impressed, went through it with out a flinch, after several splits I noticed 2 issues .. First is the 2-handed operation, you have to hold the lever down with one hand and push down a button with the other for it to operate.. The 2nd is the ram has a slight bubble shape on it, when it starts to apply pressure on a slightly uneven cut log it will push or slip it out of the splitting rail.. If I had a free hand I could hold the log in place until it splits into the wood ... These 2 issues bothered me, so to address this I got a bungee cord to hold down the rear lever, therefore allowing me to push down the button to start the ram forward.. My extra hand held down the uneven cut log in place to allow the splitter to do its job... Worked great, went through 30 logs without any issues.. NOTE; with the lever down it wont allow the ram to return to its starting position after you release the button to stop the ram.. So my bungee cord was placed to allow to hold the lever down but loose enough for me to pull it up and stay there.. thereafter you repeat the operation, its that simple... The other thing I'd like to add is that it sits very low to the ground so I sat on a 5gal. bucket during operation. I do intend to built a 2 1/2 or 3ft. foot stand for it, depending on your preference it might help. Also its little noisy but It didn't bother me, I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it.. Ok, now for the DECLAIMER, Do it at your own risk... follow the operations manual... The 2-handed operation was the only reason I gave it a 4-star rating, works great as intended for me.. Last but not least, yes you SHOULD WAIT for your cut wood to season before splitting.. I just got carried away on how great this little splitter worked, hope this review helps...
