After cooling, shut gas valve, disconnect propane tank/hose. Remove back panel, clean main burner orifice with vacuum/air. Check venturi tube for blockages; clean if needed. Clean internal pilot with vacuum/air. Reinstall back panel after cleaning The correct ignition sequence 1.Open cylinder valve by turning counter-clockwise 2.Press and hold the control knob at "LOW/IGNITE", then turn it to "IGNITE/HIGH". 3.Keep the knob depressed for 30 seconds after the burner lights to ensure it stays lit. 4.If needed,repeat2-3 times. Is its ignition system reliable in windy conditions? The ignition system is easy to start and works reliably, even in outdoor conditions.

  • Great Cooker
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
Did not use this for steaks, used it for thinner cut meats. Did amazing job (restaurant quality) for my cooking purposes. Very simple to operate, very fast to set up, cooks fast. Mine had powder like material in one spot, i cleaned the whole thing before doing a burn in. This thing gets extremely hot. Made of all stainless steel-feels robust. Clean up was very simple. Good size, but wouldn't think of lugging it around, good size to move around backyard and house. Look forward to using this for other recipe experiments. ... show more

  • Amazing Steaks
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
So far, I have only cooked four of the best ribeyes I have ever had, but if you were to steal this from me today or if I broke it somehow this evening I would order another one later this evening, even at twice the price. I don't write reviews unless something is either outstanding or horrible. I don't use the racks as they were intended. I use one of them to support a 1/4 sheet pan, lined with foil and a dedicated stainless steel rack so clean up is simply scrubbing that rack a bit and throwing the foil away. The sheet pan and the griller stay clean with this set up. The racks that come with the cooker are better looking than the racks I have for other grilling equipment, mainly because they are heavy stainless steel, but I believe that the wire rack in the foil lined pan is an easier clean up and will continue to cook this way until it makes more sense to use the provided racks for a specific type of food. I use the cooker's rack like I do oven racks. I've charred three halved zucchinis with the steaks on two occasions and I am absolutely blown away by the flavor of everything. I marinate my steaks for a half hour in cold beer and then pat them dry and sprinkle with a combination of brown sugar, seasoned salt, and black pepper. I then let them sit at room temp for 45 minutes and then broil them in this cooker for about 4 minutes, turning the steaks every sixty seconds until charred to my liking. The fat chars very quickly - in less than a minute - but I continue cooking at full blast about 2.5-inches from the heat source on the fourth rack down from the top until it is more evenly charred and then probe to check for temp - it's perfect somehow each time at 135 degrees. I brush with melted butter, season with fresh coarse black pepper and cover with foil to rest five minutes. Such a great flavor and oh so tender. Perfect steak. Prior to this cooker, I would never think of using a gas grill - only grill over charcoal and wood - but the char produced here rivals anything that charcoal or wood has been able to produce and I believe it's the char that brings the flavor I am really loving. I may cold-smoke some steaks prior to broiling later but as good as these have been, I wonder if I even need to. Thought about sous vide as I have done it the past prior to searing, with results like this in four minutes, what's the point? These steaks are more tender than sous vide and searing. The zucchini I cook along side the steaks on the same rack/pan or on a similar separate set up and while they are perfectly charred they are a bit al-dente but perfect to me. I season them simply with olive oil and sea salt. I've since searched the internets for foods that are better when charred and expect to do a lot more with this cooker than just steaks and zucchini although if I find that all I could ever cook properly is ribeyes and zucchini I will do it like it were my job for as long as I am able. I love this thing and I only wish I'd found this style of griller years ago. It is so easy and clean to char from above rather than below, where flare ups can make things trickier. I plan to try chicken, fish, brussels sprouts, peppers, and green beans. Maybe pre-cooked cobs of corn? My mind races. I'm glad I saved some money compared to similar units because I jokingly may go broke buying meat to cook in this excellent product. I wish Big Horn Outdoors sold a cover for it so I could just leave it out in the weather, but because it is so lightweight and easy to carry around, I will continue to bring it out of the garage and then put it away after cooling. I will take care of it because I want to keep using it for a long time. Please get one for yourself and then write a review describing your excellent ideas of what can be cooked in it. One final note - the unit is packaged so thoughtfully. They figured out how to ship it without damage, unlike a lot of BBQ equipment I've had shipped to myself. I hesitate to buy grilling equipment online because of some horrible experiences, but with this one you can expect it to arrive in good condition. ... show more

  • Real Steakhouse Crust at Home
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
**⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5 – Real Steakhouse Crust at Home** I’ve owned a lot of grills over the years, but nothing has ever delivered a sear like this Big Horn 1500°F infrared grill. It heats up in about four minutes and hits a level of heat my regular gas grill or cast iron just can’t match. The crust it puts on steak looks exactly like a high-end steakhouse broiler — dark, crispy, and perfectly caramelized without overcooking the inside. The stainless steel build feels solid, and the design keeps the heat tight and focused where it needs to be. I reverse-seared a ribeye, then finished it under this burner for about 70 seconds per side — honestly, it looked like something you’d pay $50+ for at a restaurant. Even my family noticed the difference right away. Cleanup is easier than expected. The drip tray slides out, and I just line it with foil to make it almost zero effort. Yes, it does use propane faster than a normal grill, but at 1500°F, that’s expected. This is a **finishing tool**, not a slow grill — you need to keep an eye on it unless you enjoy carbon. The included pizza stone is okay, but I swapped it out for a **cooking steel**, and that made a huge difference. With the steel, I get a fast char on flatbreads and personal pizzas, almost like a mini salamander-style oven — it actually surprised me how well it handled them. **Bottom line:** If you’re serious about steakhouse-quality crust and want that blast-furnace finish without spending $700+ on a Beefer or Otto Wilde, this is one of the best purchases you can make. Worth every penny. ... show more

  • Big thumbs up from an Otto Wilde user
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
At our primary home, we've had an Otto Wilde grill for about 3 years; it's wonderful but expensive. I got the 16-inch Big Horn for our vacation home, and after two uses, I have to say it is as good and in some cases a bit better than my Otto Wilde at a fraction of the price. Yes, one could say it's an Otto Wilde ripoff, but it takes many of those products' well-designed aspects. The build quality seems just fine to me, the starter is vastly superior to Otto Wilde's, which was always a hassle for me, it seems to have more slots to raise and lower the food. Unlike the Otto Wilde, this unit's starter is powered by a battery, and it works perfectly and easily. It gets hot just as fast as the Otto Wilde and does just as good a job searing. Clean up is almost as easy (Otto Wilde has a base plate that can be removed, but foil does the job of keeping the bottom clean). The Big Horn has a nice accessory shelf area for the front that is easy to put on and take off. Plus, it came with a pizza stone! If you've had "want bumps" for the Otto Wilde but can't justify $600-$800, don't even blink and get the Big Horn grill. ... show more

  • 4/5 Stars
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
Pros 1. Cooks very fast for rare seared steak. 1 1/2 mins per side after a 5 min warmup 2. Good price Cons 1. Doesn’t sear edge to edge on rack because heater isn’t big enough to cover the entire rack therefore you must leave about an inch to 1 1/2 inches on every side empty 2. Doesn’t come with grill cover 3. Meat tastes slightly like propane or gas sometimes, odd flavor sometimes. I do cook very close to burner on top rack. 4. Cleanup is more work than my blackstone, but still better than cleaning a regular grill’s grease at the bottom 5. Rack could be bigger (i do 2 batches normally not 1) Conclusion Good grill, it’s the best way to cook steak vs. regular grill, blackstone, air fryer, oven broiler or pan on stove. ... show more

Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
Restaurant quality sear. It takes a little getting used to it since at first I didn’t realize it would do the searing so quickly. Don’t take your eyes off of it while you’re learning how to use it! I was also impressed with how well built it is and it comes almost fully assembled. The steel is of a heavy and sturdy gauge and for the price is an excellent value. ... show more

  • BIG little Salamander Grill That Works Superb!
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
We were elated to receive this after reading many reviews of happy customers/users of this unit. It came very well-packaged which I'll get to in a moment, but first, it's well-built and well thought-out for the most part...and it works WONDERFULLY. Being stainless makes cleanup easy (BarKeeper's Friend) and more rust resistant; and though it's portable it's not chintzy in its construction. It's rock-solid. I've only used it twice, but by reading many user reviews and tips, both sessions turned out a a very good job, that can only be improved with more experience and technique. The taste of the grilled food is top-drawer. Both times our steaks came out PERFECT on the inside, with a nice mild char to them. I did NOT burn either meal; and we have a Thermapen which is essential to grilling, period. I did also purchase a cart (Feasto) on Amazon for it, as well as a cover. But I digress. I did find the bottom of the grill grates to be very rough around the edges of the holes- not necessarily sharp but rough enough to tear up a blue scrubby when cleaning up after the first try. So i went out to the shop and used a file to bust the edges down and smooth the grates out. This, IMO should have been done at the factory, as the top of the grates are kinder/smoother than the underside of them. Once I had them improved after my shop session, I washed and then seasoned them with flaxseed oil, I did 5 light applications top and underside of the grates, to make them more non-stick. You'll see the amber coloring in one of my pic. Now then, our pizza stone arrived cracked. I reached out to BigHorn via email with a picture and after explaining I wasn't looking for a discount or partial refund, I just wanted my pizza stone (the original one had a visible crack on the side and a hairline crack traveling from it about 3" long), they promptly shipped us a new pizza stone that arrived safe and sound. While I do find the aforementioned rough edges of the grate undersides unacceptable; the grill is such a strong contender, and works so well, and made so well, along with magnificent after sales customer support, that it still gets 5 solid stars. Finish the undersides of the grates and it's easily 5+. ... show more

  • Refunded twice, same issue — don’t buy this thing
Color: Silver Size: 16 inch
**Two units. Same failure. Refunds instead of returns. Burner riveted shut. Sold under multiple names. Would not recommend.** I purchased this BIG HORN OUTDOORS 1500°F Infrared Propane Gas Grill on June 13, 2026. The first unit lit normally, but after about 2.5 minutes it made a pop sound and started fluttering/pulsing. It continued running, but the burner/flame became unstable and would not recover. I contacted Big Horn customer service, but responses were slow, around 24 hours between messages. They eventually offered a refund or replacement, but I went through Amazon instead. Amazon refunded the unit and did not require me to return it. Thinking the first one might just be defective, I bought a second one on June 17 using the refund balance. The second unit was brand new, with all new parts, hose, and regulator. It lasted about 13.5 minutes before doing the same exact thing: pop, fluttering/pulsing, and unstable operation that would not recover. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting propane tanks, regulator concerns, and possible fixes. The burner assembly is riveted shut, so you cannot easily inspect or service the internal burner/air mixture area without drilling it apart. I also found this same or very similar SRGG21708-style grill sold under other names, including INSTA-SEAR and MASTER COOK Big Horn. Similar units also appear on Alibaba with custom branding, so this seems like a private-label product. I wanted to like this grill, and there are plenty of positive videos online, but I received two units with the same failure. The popping and fluttering make it feel unsafe and unreliable. I would not recommend it. ... show more
