  • RIVALS $500 UV BIO FILTERS! INCREDABLE VALUE AND ITS HUGE! BADASS KOI POND FILTER
Doesn't leak and hooked right up to my 1 1/4 inch hoses. Very serious looking piece of equipment. No complaints whatsoever. Personally, I think the $100 price is a steal. Update: Filter has been running for 5 days and the water is clearing up nicely. I am using an intex 1000 gph pool pump as the power for the filter. The pump uses the type A/C cartridges which are serving as the sludge pre filter. I was capturing ZERO algae before this UV filter was placed. WITHIN 24 HOURS the UV lamp was clumping the algae. I have been swapping the cartridge out every 1 to 2 days as the flow drops. The water going back to the pond is crystal clear so it is only a matter of time before the water is crystal in the tank. My setup is a "temporary" pond right now. I will be digging my permanent pond in the spring but I needed to set up something fast so I picked up an 10 foot easy set pool which has 2 inlets and 1 aerating jet output. Perfect for fish, it even has fine mesh plastic on the inlets so little fish can't be sucked in, but they love hanging out near the moving water. The 330gph pump that came with it is trash, tiny type H cartridge clogged in 2 days when the water was still clean so I changed it for the 1000 gph intex that uses the mainstream type A/C cartidges. I have 12 of those, my pool uses same type. I wash them in the machine in groups of 6 and they come out very clean and can take many machine washing cycles some are in service more than a year. I added this filter to cope with the algae problem as I hate algaecide which even when you are underdosing has a chance to kill fish. For less than $300 for a 1000 gallon holding tank with all plumbing, motor and UV biofilter thus is a great little setup. I will be using this setup as an isolation tank for the babies as my fish breed. Right now I have 150 fingerling sized Yellow Bullheads and 200 baby sunfish as well as a dozen 12 to 14 inch bullhead parents and 2 dozen bigger sunfish which some are also the parents of the sunfish. Can't wait to dig my real pond but this is a great way to learn about the mechanics of setting up a properly filtered hassle free pond. Will post pictures soon. ... show more

  • So far so good
I have to say this has proven to be a great filter over the past week and a half. I have used exterior pressure filters before and I’ve always went with the pricier manufacturers. I took a chance in this one and so far I’m impressed. The unit is large, and the design seems to be a good one. Bio balls in the bottom - and yes they were provided in the unit. Concentric sponges of various density check. A good size uv lamp - 13 watts not 9 - that was a plus. The smaller the lamp the less work it does clearing the water. The cleaning system is simplicity itself and works super well. Received all the fittings and connections. After a week our water is crystal clear. Crystal - no exaggerations and we had an issue with our capstones were shake and they were also dirty when laid - and that was an over sure in my part. We had a heavy rain which washed all the dirt into my new pond and the water was a mess. Thus filter took care of it but it did take several days so be patient!!! No leaks so far. I do recommend you put clamps on all hose connections when you complete the installation and use good quality hoses - nothing that will compress or break easily. Purchase hoses specifically designed for a pond and prevent a potential mishap! Recommended. ... show more

  • it works but do not expect miracle
For the money this is an effective unit. I have purchased 2 now. I use for season. Toss, and purchased next one. For 100 bucks i am not going to try and resolve all the little issues. There are some items that have been true on both units now. 1. Do not use a pump that exceeds the capability of this filter. If water is blowing out the gaskets. You are likely using a pump beyond its ability. 2. The flush mech on top. You turn the knob. It is worthless. After you use it about a dozen times it starts to leak always out the discharge hose. Not big leak.. but enough that it annoys you.. I just run hose back into pond... No prob. 3. units have a weak spot around the top housing. It will eventually start to leak around the light.. Expects about a year of use. Less if you open it up and mess with it all the time. This combined with plants, and good waterfall / flow elsewhere will keep you happy.. IT WILL NOT compensate for all the other items you need to balance in the pond. ... show more

  • Read the instructions this filter is awesome when you operate it properly
First off I want to address some of the bad reviews I own a pond business and have 3 ponds and I love these units. If it’s keaking around the top it’s because you don’t have it seated correctly with the rubber print. Use some pool lube and it won’t do that second yes if you are not back washing the glass cap must be on the backwash outlet but be sure to take it off before turning the handle to back wash or the unit will have no way to release water and it will blow the top off and last this unit takes 2 weeks to start working properly as it needs time to build up good bacteria and seed itself and there is a tiny blie light at top of unit to tell you if in light is working. Never run dry always turn unit off first when cleaning and then the pump unless your just backflishing. Read the directions all of this is in there It’s a little Vaughn but with common sense you can figure it out. The price is great and they get the job done. Bottom line. ... show more
