  • Excellent and does everything well including black levels with setting adjustment below.
Style: 4K 3200 ANSI lm 5W speaker W/ Android TV...
So here is the story I am waiting for a replacement from Amazon because I believe it was manhandled during shipping and screwed up the fan(s). happens. Now about this excellent projector. First thing first the black levels are very good on this projector for a projector. You need to run it in smart eco mode and you get great contrast and it's quiet. I know because I had the epson 5050UB and I ran gravity on both in 4k and 3D and they looked almost the same. Maybe the 5050 had slightly better blacks but the 4550i still has great blacks and better highlights and color. I have an oled E6 so i know black levels and 3D. It is also very good at intermittent black detail. Motion is super smooth on this projector and 3D is very good. Sharpness is a standout and it is noticeably sharper then the epson 5050Ub. It is a bright projector and in bright cinema mode it still looks great with some lights on. Now I must say the epson 5050UB is a great projector but unlike the benq, which uses led rated at 20,000 hours, the epson used a bulb rated at 3000 hours and must be changed. This is a very modern projector and you can see it in design, lighting system, and menu system. It is relatively compact and will Def fit into my blacked out cinema room. ... show more

  • The included Android dongle is misconfigured and no longer works.
Style: 4K 3200 ANSI lm 5W speaker W/ Android TV...
The projector is good. It gives a sharp image with a lot of detail and the colors are good. Contrast is a little low, similar to other 1080p DLP projectors with DC3, and the operating modes are limited (you can't activate SmartEco together with the WCG filter, for example). It's quite bright (adequate for a 130-inch screen), but it's not out of this world either. The Android dongle that comes included will be unconfigured after downloading some games from the app store and gives an error message and then no video, and I don't see a way to reset it to its original factory state, so it is no longer useful. ... show more

  • BenQ HT4550i - Really Great 4K Projector
Style: 4K 3200 ANSI lm 5W speaker W/ Android TV...
Have had the BenQ HT4550i for 2 months. It's a great projector. Very bright and produces an absolutely beautiful picture in both SDR and HDR. I am throwing it to a 142" Silver Ticket WVS screen and could not be happier with the picture. The colors are very vibrant. There is not even a hint of rainbow effect that anyone in our family can detect. The picture is gorgeous and as many friends have noted "looks just like a 4K TV". The one area reviewers have commented on is black levels. I have found the contrast to be pretty good but it isn't going to be an OLED TV. That's the trade for having a huge picture. But watching Star Wars is still totally great, for example. I wouldn't trade it for any regular size TV. So if you're on the fence about it, I think you'll end up very pleased with it. One thing I will also add is that the built in Android stick is just so-so. You'll definitely want to get a good source like a Roku Ultra or Nvidia Shield to go with this. I have the Shield and it is totally awesome integration. It looks fantastic. ... show more

  • Great picture, bright and clear 4k
Style: 4K 3200 ANSI lm 5W speaker W/ Android TV...
Great projector. The picture is fantastic for movies and TV. It goes gaming at least as well as a normal person could want. Super bright, so it has no trouble keeping up with daylight. The included Google TV might be useful at some point, but I'm using it with an Nvidea Shield. It seems to turn on randomly. Which has been a minor nuisance. *** update *** I have owned this nine months now. Nothing but problems and error screens. Benq support have been responsive, but I still don't have a fully operational projector and I am now a part-time projector technician for my wife and kids. The picture is great, but not worth the headaches. ... show more

  • BenQ HT4550i Review: 6-Month User Experience
Style: 4K 3200 ANSI lm 5W speaker W/ Android TV...
I’ve been using the BenQ HT4550i daily for the past six months, and overall, it's a solid 4K projector with some notable strengths and a few frustrating issues. Pros: The HT4550i delivers a bright, clear, and very sharp image with excellent black levels, which I’m very pleased with. It provides higher resolution and superior contrast compared to my previous Epson LCD projector. Cons: One of the most noticeable issues with the HT4550i is the strong rainbow effect, especially in bright, white portions of the image. This effect can be minimized if you avoid moving your eyes quickly across the screen, but it’s still a significant drawback compared to my previous Epson LCD projector, which didn’t have any rainbowing. Another annoying issue is the inability to set a default input on startup. The auto input select feature on the HT4550i always defaults to the Chromecast, which can be a hassle. The workaround is to disconnect the Chromecast and connect whatever device you want on startup to HDMI 1. It's surprising that a $3,000 projector lacks such a basic feature that’s standard even in cheaper models. One last limitation is that the light source is not user replaceable. It is supposed to last for 10 years according the BenQ tech I talked to. I hope it does and this may not be an issue at all, but if it doesn’t, it is unfortunate that there is no easy way to replace the light source. Despite these cons, neither the rainbow effect, startup input select issue, nor the non-serviceable light source were deal-breakers for me, and I would still give the projector a rating of 4.5 stars because of its high image-quality-to-value ratio. However, one major problem has made me seriously reconsider my purchase decision. The Major Issue: After six months, my projector began freezing on a black screen immediately after displaying the BenQ logo at startup. When I contacted tech support, I was informed that this is a well-known firmware issue that requires sending the unit back to BenQ for an update. Why is a $3,000 projector that’s been on the market since May 2023 still being shipped a year later (May 2024) with a known firmware issue? And why does BenQ require users to send in the unit for a firmware update when most companies provide firmware updates via network connections or USB downloads? I now have to pack up the projector, drive it out to the FedEx drop-off, and wait 2-3 weeks for it to be returned, all for a firmware update that should be a simple, at-home process. To BenQ’s credit, they did provide a prepaid shipping label for the unit to be sent back to them. Final Thoughts: Initially, the BenQ HT4550i met all my selection criteria when I bought it, providing a 4K projector with a superior image at a reasonable price. After using Epson projectors for the past decade, switching to the HT4550i was a risk, but its beautiful image quality convinced me to keep it past its return period, despite the rainbowing, input select, and unreplaceable light source issues. Ultimately, it is the HT4550i’s terminal firmware flaw and how BenQ is handling it that is incredibly disappointing and has me seriously reconsidering my purchase decision. I hope this review helps those in search of their next 4K projector, and I sincerely hope BenQ addresses these shortcomings. ... show more
