My balcony railings are on the smaller side, so this privacy screen was quick and easy to install with the spread out grommets and the included zip ties. It's very lightweight but seems to be holding up pretty well. As for the visual privacy, it is more on the thick side since the knitting is highly dense. So you'll be getting the privacy that you want. I prefer a more semi-sheer view. Unfortunately, my balcony looks visibly unappealing from the streets. I’m using this for temporary privacy from a construction project next door. My deck railing is 42” high and this shade cloth fits perfectly below it. There is just enough stretch to pull it tight. It doesn’t look exactly like the sellers photos, which show horizontal striping and dense, light blocking fabric. Description is 90% light blocking. Mine is a more open weave with no patterns. I can make out shapes through the shiny black fabric, but not too much detail. Other reviewer’s photos are accurate. It looks like it is made from High Density Polyethylene (garbage bags, shampoo bottles, artificial turf…). It’s tough and thin. The included zip-ties are very narrow and the locking pawls broke on about about 1 in 4. I needed to purchase longer ones to reach around the lower rail. Definitely not a good Sun blocker or privacy screen as you can see through it with direct light. So instead I used it to shade some of the more sensitive plants and they are happier now.

Pros - easy to hang up and easy to cut to size (don't mind the jacked up edges, I fixed them after) and the sizing was correct. Cons - this shade covering is rather see through, more so than others I've seen. Also I beileve there should be more sizes of the ties available as the ones provided where all one size and fairly small leaving me to use 2 on the top eyes to fit on the wider balcony railing. ... show more

This tarp-like “cloth” screen should do well for privacy. I’m not so sure about its breathability yet. I won’t be able to set it up until summer, so that will tell. The screen seems well made, and pretty sturdy.

This privacy screen is a good long size which would be good for an apartment and/or small balcony. The 3 1/2 feet height is in what is surely a sweet spot -- not too tall and not too short, and will allow enough air circulation still. It is not completly dark -- it gives a visual screen to the outside, but still allows some light through. It comes with built-in metal grommets for securing it to your chosen surface -- in my case it was to a wrought iron metal balcony, with thin metal poles spaced throughout. The trick with the built-in grommets is where they and the poles do not line up cleanly. It can be done; just takes some patience. The length of this one at 16+ feet should be more than enough to work for your average apartment balcony, and with possibly some leftover. If it's too long, simply roll up the end, and if it's not quite long enough, just strategically place it where it will look and serve best. Nice product. ... show more
