This has been a fantastic one for us. We already had a different style of automatic litter box (two of them, actually, and they each cost twice as much as this one), that rotated horizontally to the cat's entrance (not vertically like this one), that required the cats to enter a smallish enclosure, and were/are constantly getting messy with poop smear. We weren't sure what was happening, but then the cats began to have their pee project out of that automatic box. We suspected they were trying to avoid getting messy in the enclosure, and this was confirmed when we caught one jumping in but not all the way and his pee went outward, out of the box (he's also the heaviest at 12 lbs). We tried changing the litter type, but that only seemed to make it worse, we definitely began clean the whole thing regularly (but that didn't help as the poop smeared routinely). We finally decided to just look for a new machine. This one has been a life saver because they (1) have more room, which they definitely prefer (particularly above them, so no chance of crawling into a poop smeared hole) and (2) this machine rocks the litter back and forth before it dumps it, which helps cover the poop if the cats neglected to (which we realized one of them was not!). So, it stays cleaner! And so, cleaner machine, happier cats, and no pee outside the machine! they are not peeing outside the machine! We are so thrilled! I'm thinking of giving away the other ones and getting a second of these (we have 4 cats). Once it fully rotates and dumps, the smell is gone. Though the whole rotation process takes a while. The build seems nice and sturdy with few areas to gather grime. The cats absolutely prefer it! As I mentioned, we have three machines total- this one and two that are the other style- and after 2-3 weeks, this is the only one they use. Clean up is easy, though we do have to be mindful to keep the plastic cover (used to set the machine to dump all of the litter so you can put in a new batch) on hand and away from the cats who may want to bite it. The size is great, we love that it fits into our closet so much easier than the other one. We have a little cat door cut out of the door to let them in. The machine doesn't alert you when it is full, like our other ones, but I am willing to set a timer for myself and deal with that to have it be so much cheaper and so user friendly. Overall, I definitely recommend it.

Pros: The setup is incredibly easy. It is as simple as snapping on legs and you are good to go. The build quality is good. Its not heavy or bulky so easy to move it around if needed. The best part about it is the ability to control odor and no mess clean up; no scooping, just change the garbage bag. It does very well with generic clumping cat litter. My kitten got used to it very easily. The access point is large so it should be able to be used as the cat grow up. Really like self cleaning feature and containment of the smell. No cons for this one. Well priced compared to other brand names and does a great job.

For the past four years I have been using the Litter robot 3. A few years ago I was ranting and raving about the LR3 because it made my life so simple. It was my first automatic litter box and boy was it a game changer. I had started using it to provide a fresh bed of litter for my elderly and sick cat. About a year into use, sadly my cat passed away and I adopted a new kitten. The LR3 continued to be a miracle worker and made my life simple. However, about a year and a half ago it started acting up. It would pause repeatedly while cycling with no reason and take forever to finish the cycle. Eventually it got to the point where it would cycle without my cats using it. Finally, I had to resort to manual operation which could take up to ten minutes to complete a full cycle. Naturally, I was fed up and looking for a replacement but I didn't want to spend $600+ for a litter box only for it to break 3-4 years later. I found this gem, and let me tell you, so much simpler than the LR3! It's so quiet I can't even tell when it's cycling if I'm in the other room. This thing sits right next to my work desk and it never bothers me; in fact, the loudest thing about it is the thump the waste makes when it lands in the collection area. I will say I was worried about the size of the litter bed because one of my cats is on the large size and I was worried he would feel cramped. I can tell on occasion he feels like he doesn't have enough litter to choose from but the litter bed is no smaller than the LR3 in my observations. Plus, this one takes up way less space than the LR3, it sits nicely in the corner of my study and does its thing. I haven't noticed a difference in litter consumption between this automatic litter box and the LR3. It's a little less sturdy than the LR3, however, I don't find this detracts from the use or dependability of the product. One complaint is that there is no mechanism, that I've seen or read in the manual, that helps indicate when the waste drawer is full. This doesn't negatively impact my usage in any way, because I'm very consistent in emptying the drawer twice a week with my two cats. It's never full to the brim unless I wait a full week, which is a bonus compared to the LR3 which I had to meticulously empty 2-3 times a week. I also don't find as much of a smell compared to the LR3 which boasted about all its smell control technology, 2-3 days of use and I could smell the waste. This one, I can't smell much of anything until I pull out the waste drawer. It's easy to use, was WAY cheaper, easier to clean, and seems to be a huge plus for my cats. My only two complaints is the lack of warning for a full waste drawer and the height. I ended up keeping the stairs I purchased for my LR3 and modified them to stand on their own for this litter box. It's just a bit too high for cats to comfortably get into. One of my cats would put his front paws in and dig before getting fully inside to use it, thus the modification of the stairs.
