  • If you HATE to clean the cat box consider this unit!
Cypcat Automatic Self Cleaning Cat Litter Box review I always test new products by trying to assemble them without instructions. This cat litter box set up was pretty straight forward, but I did have to finally get out the instructions to fully understand how the unit worked. Note that they want you to use clumping litter which was fine for us. We nearly filled the litter area and then added some of their old, somewhat smelly litter as per the instructions. Our old cat took right to it without issues. The young cats are not inside much, so I cannot attest to how they will take to it. It seems to be working as advertised. It has a counter which tells me that kitty has used it 12 times since installing it about 5 days ago. There is an optional usb-powered fan which vents the litter area. The output hose is really wimpy and will not stand up. It just falls over limp. Not sure why they want to vent that fresh cat potty smell into the house, but like I said, the installation of the fan is optional. NOTE: when installing the vent tube, force the small end over the exhaust port. That takes a -bit- of effort. If you don't, the the easy-to-install wide end will just come undone with the slightest movement. I am still recovering from total knee replacement a month ago, and I wish I had this unit in the house beforehand. Seeing how the cats are my pets, my wife did not care to clean the old box. See viewed it as a disgusting chore that she did for me only because I was laid up. If we had this while I was totally immobile, there would have been a happier household while I recovered! My wife would have considered this to be $170 well-spent! BTW no way am I going to allow a wi-fi device from an unknown Chinese company onto my home network. The security risk is too great. Manual use is just fine by me. The wi-fi option just seems to be overkill to me anyway. ... show more

  • Easy to set up, cats have mixed feelings about it.
I have a lot of cats, and multiple homes. No I am not bragging, but I end up taking my critters back and forth between homes at least 4 times a year. I have litter boxes set up in each home and it can be a lot to coordinate all the needs and chores and timing for all the cats, boxes and locations. So I welcome the change to try any robot litter box. This is a good one. It was surprisingly easy to set up, and had no issue joining my Eero mesh network. When it runs, it is much quieter than the other robot litter box I have, but it is not silent. The rotation it does is a cradle-rock and I have one ailing cat who has intestinal issues so the rocking does not always coat and congeal his output. I wish there was a setting on it to by default give an extra rock or two, but there is not. You can, however, trigger it via the app manually, so once or twice a day I have been triggering that as a "just in case" even if I am not home. It is pretty effective with odor control. It is an open-top litter box, so you will still have that dusty scent but the waste scent I think is effectively dealt with. The box does it's rocking about 2 minutes after the cat departs. Because of my cat's health issues, I do have a camera set up to monitor the little box, and in reviewing the footage I do see that the rocking does scare away two cats, who then tiptoe around the robot to the jumbo covered conventional litter box. Those two seem to have no interest in the robot... but the two that do use it seem to use it about 80% of the time. That does cut down the litter-tending time and effort by about 40-50%. I have had it running about a week, so I am not sure of durability, but when putting together, it felt more solid than robot litter boxes I have had in the past. The lining in thicker and seems to be a different composition than the name brand unit I had where the lining would dissolve from the acidic environment every 4 months or so, which made that one really high maintenance. This one does not give that impression, but months from now if the lining does erode, I will revisit this review and update you. The app is satisfactory. We do not need a complicated or really pretty app, but the app is a bit rough with English language that was clearly translated using an online service. There are grammatical errors and stilted prose, but it is still easy to navigate, and the app works when you are anywhere - I have triggered the cleaning cycle from a stoplight. The sensors in the box truly are 360 degrees, which pleasantly surprised me - it really does watch out for your cats and arrests its own functions when they are detected. While it has the option, I have not yet set up individual cat identification since I have a camera, and only two of my cats will use it. That might be something I tinker with doing a boring streaming binge, but for now it is nice knowing that it has that option and is part of a very well-built, well-designed and well-functioning device. I just hope the other cats eventually take to the robot and I can have ONLY robot litter boxes. But we cannot force it, we just need to give them the time and space and obey our cats' commands like a good human should. ... show more

  • Hopefully the big guys take to it
Setting this thing up was actually a breeze, which I wasn't expecting for something with "smart" in the name. I had it out of the box and put together in about twenty minutes, and getting the app to sync with my WiFi didn't turn into a whole afternoon project for once. The 360 safety sensors seem legit too—it stopped moving the second I got close to it during the test cycle, so I'm not worried about it being a hazard. My only real hesitation is the size of my cats. I’ve got two absolute units, and while the inside of the drum looks pretty spacious, they’re used to their giant open-top bins. It's been sitting in the laundry room for two nights now and so far... nothing. They've sniffed it, but haven't actually made the jump yet. Its a really nice-looking kit and the LED display is super clear, but time will tell if my chunky boys will actually make this their primary spot or if they'll just keep using their old one. If they do start using it, I’ll be thrilled to stop the daily scooping grind. ... show more
