I purchased this solar-powered chicken door for easy automation. It works great! It was helpful to read the other reviews describing the time-set process. The installation instructions had a lot of math to cut the opening (LOL). I made my opening a perfect rectangle 1/8” wider than than the widest motor part at the top of the door. Then I simply cut lengths of 1”x2” for the slightly narrower sides and it fit and mounted perfectly! I tested the “No Pinch” feature with my hand. The door did stop, paused, and attempted to close one more time. My hand was still there so it stopped again, but did not re-attempt to close a second time. So, Chicky has one chance to get out of the doorway, or the door will not close on its own. The door has been running flawlessly now for more than 2 weeks. ... show more

    • How do you set the timer on this thing?
I love this chicken coop door. So quiet when it open and closes, but I'm confused. How does one set a timer when there is no clock on this thing. The instructions are minimal. Only one sheet in the box and it mainly covers set up and installation. Setting the timer is insufficient and the remote is not of much use - you have to be pretty close to the sensor for it to work - so much for standing by my back door and closing the chicken coop door. If someone could give me better instructions on how to set a "timer" it would be much appreciated. ... show more

This is kind of life changing for us. We typically go out every morning and every night to the coop. We have to open the door in the morning and then lock the door in the evening. It's to keep them safe from the racoons that frequent our yard. Because we've done that we haven't lost any chickens to the coons. Our neighbors don't do that and one by one their chickens got picked off. So sad. But that means that we are trudging out in the snow in the winter to lock them up and back out in the cold morning to let them out. So I was very excited to cut down on the amount of trips out there. We set the solar door on the 'light mode' to open and close automatically. When the days started getting shorter we noticed that the chickens didn't make it in before the door shut on them. Sometimes one would, but most of the time none of them did. They would be huddled against the door. Luckily we are still checking on them nightly just to be sure they make it in safely. So we manually open the door or use the remote to let them in. So now we're doing a combination. We allow the door to use the light mode for the morning because it's not imperative to have the door open at a certain time because they have food and water in the coop. But we use the timer function to close the door about an hour past sunset now. That fixed the issue. Every night when we check on them the door is closed. We are going on an overnighter this week and normally I have to hire a chicken sitter to come twice a day. But now I can leave and they will be fine for two days. Freedom! ... show more

    • Works as it should but for how long
I got this to replace the same model coop door that failed after 4 months. (not sure why it failed I think the controller went bad since it only worked randomly sometimes) This went in the same spot and has an easier controller to use then the original one. I am hoping to get a longer life out of this one and will update my review after 4 months time. Either way this is a great unit and helps me keeping the chickens in at night and out in the morning. ... show more

    • Wont open after a month
It was going great. Its a little weird to install and the sides are plastic but once I got it installed I didnt have any concerns with that. It worked great for about a month. Closed when it got dark, opened about 30 minutes after sunrise. Then it just stopped opening in the mornings. The battery is fine, I get a great charge from the solar. I would just have to go out there and open it manually. I tried to switch to the timer (I have no idea what time that is because there is no way to adjust time). The controls are literally an up and down button you press and hold to set up which setting you wanna use. It closes great at night on its own. But does not open in the mornings. The battery isn't the problem because I can press the button and it opens. Not sure why or what to do about that. ... show more
