I upgraded to this filter because I needed more power and filtration, and it works great. This filter moves some serious water and keeps the holding tank clean. It has a customizable oxygen aerator which is super helpful. My tank is about 15 gallons and it's able to keep it clean without trying very hard. The design is well thought out, you just unclick the sections, rinse out the filter sponges with tank water and reinstall. It comes with bio balls that install easily. It is about 13" tall and you can remove a section of filtration if you don't need as much (I got the 55-100 gallon filter). It is pretty quiet unless you are using a lot of oxygenation. You never need to replace filters in this which is highly convenient and why I went with this model. Overall I've used it for a few weeks now and I'm impressed. I'd recommend it if you want a simple, clean filter that doesn't require much work after the fact and looks nice.

Better Performance than Stock Filters I purchased this to replace the original filter that came with my Top Fin 29-gallon tank. It has done a significantly better job of keeping the water crystal clear compared to the old filters that were constantly needing replacement. Easy Setup & Transition Fish-Safe Transition: Following the instructions, I kept both the old and new filters running for a week to help the fish transition smoothly. Built-in Aeration: I love that the bubbles are built-in. It allowed me to remove my separate air stone/bubbler, making the tank look much cleaner and less cluttered. Maintenance The maintenance is incredibly simple and cost-effective. Instead of buying expensive cartridges, I just follow the instructions to clean the sponges twice a month. It’s very easy to manage. The Verdict This is a quiet, powerful, and efficient Submersible Aquarium Filter. It’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade a standard kit filter to something more robust and easier to maintain.

I've had this for several months in my well planted aquarium. It's small, easy to maintain, and very good at maintaining excellent water quality. My biggest complaint is it's very difficult to separate the sections to replace filter products. It's actually a real bitch trying to separate the parts. There must be a trick I can't figure out. However, my tank is so nice and clear. I only have to do heavy maintenance in about six weeks of operation. The unit is quiet, and effective. Go ahead with this one! Just remember to put on your patience hat when maintaining it.

I’ve had a 45g square tank out of commission for years now. My boyfriend wanted to surprise me by trying to help me get it running. Unfortunately he’s not very informed in the aquatic world. He ordered one of these and I’ve hated it from the moment I laid eyes on it. He asked that I give it a chance, so I reluctantly unboxed and assembled according to the instructions. Out of the gate I noticed quite a few flaws. First being the horrible water flow. It advertises 30° of vertical adjustment for the power head, but they seem to have forgotten my 30° when assembling the product. You’re stuck at the flow direction they give you, only allowing for horizontal movement. The amount of movement may be impressive to some, but for someone who’s always had fluval tanks and filters I’m not so easily swayed. So around and around my water swirls, only swirling around the top of the tank. I allowed that to go on for a few hours before noticing there was zero progress in water quality. The thing just doesn’t clean it at all. This was a fresh substrate out of the bag tank. Lil bit of tank water from the mother and some dirt sediment. The water should clear up quick. Nope. Setup was fairly easy, but those suctions were hanging on for dear life from the start. Not surprised they detach themselves and make a run for it. I do like the adjustable storage for the bio balls, but with all the chambers hooked up and still no clean water, what good will it do anyone if you take a section out? I also see many people talking about fish being sucked into the thing, and yeah. Not a great design. Might be safe for use if it’s upside down, but I don’t trust it to not mow down any of the tank critters. Not even taking the chance. The thing runs, for now. It’s not very quiet and I can honestly say I don’t trust it to be my tanks lifeline. Looking forward to getting my fluval and returning…assuming it’s possible. Many people have mentioned that phony warranty they have. Can’t wait to find out more about that…

This has been great. I've had it set up for a couple months now and was super lazy about cleaning it. It got gunked up, stopped running, took it apart and scrubbed everything. Put it back together and it's running like nothing ever happened. I think the biggest complaint is all the snails that get stuck in the bottom grooves. I love that I can change the height of it and pack it full of filter media. I will say that the flow direction is not as adjustable as they made it seems, as it only goes side to side. But, it's working out better than any HOB I've ever had- even the expensive brands.

Did wonders on my 20 gallon tank after my over hang filter burned out. i had to remove one of the filters because its really large. i love that its modular. my tank looks pristine and my fish love the fast water flow. they love to swim against the current. its entertaining to watch. great product!

I’ve had this filter for three years in a 10, 20, and now 40gal tank. I loove the fact that the pieces come apart so I was able to fit it in the two smaller tanks and bonus, it still works when it’s lying down. It is 100% silent. It was a tad too powerful when my turtle was a baby so I hid it behind a large cave and it worked just fine. I’ve got a red eared slider and they are so messy iykyk this filter has always kept up and works quick. I just recently upgraded my tank size. First pic was when I went to bed second pic was when I woke up. The listing says 20-55 gal but the box says it goes to 100 which is great because you should always get a filter that does more than your tank holds. The fact that this filter has gone in three different tanks, has moved with me through 5 apartments, and three years show it’s really stood the test of time. And it’s so easy to clean you just rinse it. Just make sure your tank is tall enough to be fully submerged
