It does if you're using it for the correct correct application. This is designed to make for a secure airtight fit between your vacuum hose and the opening at the bottom of the skimmer.

As other reviews have stated, this adapter won't accept (just barely) a 1.5 inch hose. I broke out an exacto knife and slowly trimmed back around the opening of the adapter. Once I was able to get the 1.5 inch hose into the adapter, i really pushed hard to get it all the way in. It fit fine on the suction side. All in all it is working as it should, and now my hose isn't constantly coming out of the suction hole when the filter pump is off. ... show more

Our pool did not have a side suction port so I needed to use our skimmer's suction. Of course the opening in the skimmer basket was larger than the hose I needed to attach. This product matched the skimmer's opening as well at the hose for my vacuum perfectly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
