  • Awesome tank that houses my tiny ecosystem!
Color: Black
So far I think this small 2 gallon setup is absolutely amazing. I used it as an excuse to put a cute little betta setup in the kitchen. I have a few tanks spread throughout the house. I’ve always loved having aquariums in the house and I’ve had them for a few decades now. The size of the tank is perfect. It has a shallow profile which gives my betta enough room to swim around, without taking too much of my counter. That makes it great for something like a dresser, counter, or desk. It has a nice footprint that is just wide and deep enough for the fish without taking over the space. The tank has a built in feature making tank maintenance super easy. The pump that filters the water actually allows you to raise the pipe on the back of the tank and turn it outward to allow direct water flow out of the back. No siphoning needed on this tank! The water enters the pump area both from the bottom of the tank and the back of the tank. I’m curious to see if the tank ever has an issue with mulm accumulation below the gravel, but that’s a long term issue and one that can be cleaned. The filter quality is pretty high for a small tank. Usually you get a very cheap filter or you’re stuck getting one on your own. This one is built in and they supply a year of filter replacements. It’s essentially a passive filter as it uses the same type of water pump that you would see in a small fountain. It forces the water up in the back of the tank and through the filtered area. It’s not going to be like a canister filter, but it’s essentially the same concept as small bubble powered cartridge filters and it’s been working well for my tank. Water parameters have been extremely stable. Setup was incredibly easy. It’s very straight forward and includes instructions. After setup you will want to allow the tank to fully acclimate before adding fish. The number one cause of fish dying in a new setup is water quality and acclimation. The lighting is one area I could see a tiny room for improvement, but not entirely worth even removing a star. The light can only function as one/off. I would love to have different brightness settings. While I do have a live plant in the tank which loves the multi spectrum light, my betta would love not having it at the brightest setting. For my personal use around the tank, it’s nice to have a bright light but I do want the fish to remain comfortable for years to come. The light is also on the same plug as the filter, so if one fails it means I can’t replace one on its own easily. It is nice to have one plug, but if one fails I would much rather be able to replace what breaks instead of having to get a new light and a new pump or filter. But I don’t really see it breaking, so fingers crossed. Overall, it’s a great tank. Both my fish and I love it. He even now has a Neo shrimp and snail as tank mates. They are all loving it, and I couldn’t be happier. ... show more

  • There is a LOT in this little aquarium!
Color: Black
I really like this 2-gallon aquarium, I think it would be ideal for small fish or shrimp. In my first photo I show the aquarium setup and with my Santa Maria Endlers (scientific name Poecilia Wingei) swimming in the bottom, underneath the plant. I like the clever design where the lamp slides into the back center, and also how both power cords feed into a “Y” adapter to be fed from one power supply. Perhaps the most important thing to realize is that no heater is included. While people see Betta Fish in local fish stores, in unheated water, the ideal temperature range for betta fish is 76–82°F (24–28°C), and other tropical fish species are often in that same range. Neocaridina shrimp like 72°F to 76°F (22°C to 24°C). Hygger has a small inexpensive 20-watt aquarium heater which is specified for 1-5 gallon nano tanks, the Amazon ASIN is B0HBJ2W5J1, and I plan to add this Hygger heater, because especially during the winter months, the water may be too cold and below the ideal temperature. Additionally, I think this aquarium could be an ideal small self-contained quarantine tank. Personal preference, I know that this aquarium is available in either black or white, and I just want to express that high-end aquariums often have a black painted back because that makes an excellent background for photographs, but I can see why white is also a good choice, basically just like a painter’s canvas is white, could provide nice contrast for brightly colored fish or shrimp. Pro Tip: There is a 12-page instruction manual, and on the 11th page it describes how the “Base Plate Access” works, but I found that the “flip tab” only worked when I first removed the back section (this is not part of the step-by-step, but I recommend removing). In my second photo, I show that this glass aquarium arrives well packaged and well protected during shipment. In my third photo I show how the filter pieces arrive packaged and diagonal in the back section, and then in my fourth photo, I show that 6 additional filter pads are provided, said to be one year’s worth! In my fifth photo, I show how (per page 10 of the instructions) the pump lever can be reversed (from inside the aquarium, to outside the aquarium, for performing water changes. ... show more

  • Versatile tank excellent glass, very visible no heater
Color: Black
This is a decent 2 gallon all-inclusive starter tank. This tank is ideal for a beta, some shrimp or a few smaller fish. It has a three stage filtration, including a filter plate and it gives you extra filter media as well, which is nice. There is a powerful bright light which really displays your fish. You have to turn it on and off and you can’t control it in the app which is a bit of a drag. It would’ve been nice if they had included a smart light but again this is sort of a beginner set up, so I understand. This has a new patented lock and click function where it makes it very easy to refresh your fish tank without spilling water all over the place and this is key and very smart innovative. The glass is also very clear and it’s very easy to see everything going on inside the tank. This is a real plus for me because I will spend lots of time looking at the fish and my Guest do as well. This is a tank that you still have to monitor and change water frequently. You can’t just set it and forget it because it is smaller. It does need more attention. It’s not as forgiving. With beta fish there are treatments you could put in for the water so you can get them in there quicker but remember most tanks should cycle for recommended amount of time before you put the fish in there. This tank is ideal for some shrimp as well, but probably not ideal for fish bigger than an inch or two. I use my two and 3 gallon tanks as Hospital tanks for some of my Cichlid fish if they get sick and I need to quarantine them before I put them in the main tank. This tank is perfect size to quarantine them and administer medication. It’s easier to remove the carbon filter out so the medication doesn’t get absorbed and within no time your fish will be in the main tank again. There is an app you can use for this tank however it only allows you to control the pump. I would have no reason to turn the pump off while they’re fisher in there, but it does allow you to manipulate the speed of the pump, which is good if you have a fish like a beta that might not want too much movement in the water. I wish the app would allow you to change the light that would be a great function, especially if you get home late and you want to turn the light off remotely otherwise you’re stuck with having to have someone turn the light off physically for you. Again, this is a great beginners tank, but don’t make beginner mistakes and add too many fish to the small tank. And remember, you definitely will need a heater depending on what fish you put in there. You also will need to do weekly water changes because it’s such a wall tank. The nitrogen and ammonia buildup can be rapid. With my fish, I do not put water directly from the faucet. I always put filtered water in my tanks and if I have to, I can add trace elements to speed up the water curing process. Good luck with this one. It’s a great quality tank and perfect for beginners and I can’t say enough about how clear the glasses. ... show more

  • Using it unconventionally as a terrarium for a Venus flytrap
Color: Black
I picked up this AQUASMITH 2‑gallon all‑in‑one aquarium kit fully expecting to use it as a small betta setup… but I ended up doing something completely different with it. I’m actually using it as a terrarium for a Venus flytrap, and surprisingly, this little tank handles that job extremely well. When I first unboxed it, the build quality stood out immediately. The glass is crystal clear — that 91% light transmission isn’t just marketing. It looks like a tiny display case, and for a plant that’s as visually interesting as a Venus flytrap, that clarity makes a huge difference. The square shape gives it a clean, modern look, and the overhead LED light adds a nice highlight without being harsh. Even though this tank is designed for fish, the self‑cleaning filtration system actually helps keep humidity stable inside the terrarium. I’m not running the full filtration setup, but the airflow and gentle circulation from the included pump create a micro‑environment that feels perfect for carnivorous plants. The adjustable flow lets me keep things calm enough that the soil doesn’t dry out too fast, but still gets enough movement to prevent stagnation. The Lift‑Turn‑Click water‑change system is something I didn’t expect to use in a terrarium, but it ended up being incredibly convenient. Venus flytraps need distilled or rainwater, and being able to refresh the water tray underneath without disturbing the plant is a huge bonus. No spills, no tipping the tank, no mess. The LED lighting is bright enough to keep the flytrap happy, and the quiet <35dB operation means it doesn’t add any noise to the room. The concealed cable management and dedicated feeding port (which I now use as a misting port) make the whole setup feel tidy and intentional. Honestly, using this tank unconventionally has been a fun experiment. It’s compact, clean, and visually striking — and it creates a stable little environment that works beautifully for a Venus flytrap. It’s rare to find an aquarium that doubles as a plant terrarium this well, but this one does. ... show more

  • Excellent Smart Aquarium That Is Easy to Set Up
Color: Black
I absolutely love this aquarium. It has been one of the best purchases I've made for my fish, and I've been really impressed with both the quality of the tank and the smart features. Setup was straightforward, and everything arrived in perfect condition. Once running, one of the first things I noticed was how quiet the filtration system is. The filter is extremely quiet, which makes a huge difference if you're keeping the aquarium in a bedroom, office, or other area where you don't want to constantly hear equipment running. The app is another feature I really like. It's easy to use and makes monitoring and controlling the aquarium much more convenient. You can adjust different functions from your phone, and I especially like having the ability to temporarily turn the pump off when needed. I also think this would make a great aquarium for a younger fish keeper who is learning how to properly care for a tank. The smart system gives parents an additional way to monitor things and make sure the aquarium is being maintained properly. My only real complaint is the instruction manual. The tank itself isn't particularly difficult to set up, but the instructions could be much clearer and better organized, especially since this aquarium is otherwise very beginner friendly. I was a little hesitant to order it after seeing some of the negative reviews, but my experience has been completely different. The aquarium looks great, runs quietly, the app works well, and most importantly, my fish is doing great in it. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this aquarium. Aside from the instructions needing some improvement, it has been a great all in one setup and I would definitely recommend it. ... show more

  • Beautiful efficient tank
Color: Black
Amazing little tank. In my experience after years of fish keeping I have found that the bettas I keep in nano tanks live waaaaay longer than the bettas I kept in big (by the book) aquariums. With all confidence I can tell you this tank does the job really well! Is so silent you could sleep next to it and also you can increase or reduce water flow (for bettas I keep it at minimum) . If you are one of those people that always want bigger then this could be the perfect hospital tank as well. The water truly doesn’t get dirty so fast! This tank is amazing… I’d wish I could find it in other sizes as well for bigger fish. Oh it also comes with a bunch of filter replacements. I got nothing to complain this is my second time getting this tank and I swear by it! It’s the easiest to maintain and to clean and my bettas there are the longest lived ones. 🙌🏻 I don’t care what the book says I go by my own experience ... show more

  • Cute Little Aquarium Kit
Color: Black
I really like this little aquarium kit. It was easy to put together, however the LED light is IMO too bright for the size of the tank, and I have been using a different light. Having filtration included makes things much more convenient, and the lid is a good edition too. I added a sponge filter and an airstone, overall it is very quiet. The compact size is perfect for a small space, and it looks really nice sitting on a desk or countertop. I also appreciate how simple it is to use, especially for someone who doesn’t want a complicated setup. Overall, it’s a cute and convenient little tank that I’ve really been enjoying. ... show more

  • Too small for Betta or really any fish that lives in water
Color: Black
I appreciate what AQUASMITH is trying to do here. It's an all in one setup that lets you skip all the research and piecing together you'd have to do if you just bought a single glass tank. With this package you get the tank, a lid, a filter, and a light. They're also right that it provides oxygenation, even though what they really mean is that the waterfall effect drives air into the water. There's no bubbler. I've used it for a couple of weeks and don't have many complaints other than one massive one: no betta should ever have to live in a 2 gallon tank. It's way too small for a fish that size. I'm honestly not sure what fish you would put in here. You might get away with a nano fish that likes to live by itself, but it's definitely not a betta. Right now I'm using it as a hospital tank. Build quality is OK. There's nothing great about it, but there's nothing great about the build quality of any aquarium I own or have seen either. There's some sloppy silicone work, but I see that a lot and it shouldn't take away from the finished setup. Now the negatives, setting aside how little water this holds. The light is janky as hell. There's no way to control it automatically, which becomes a pretty big deal if you have any plants in here. You have to be on the ball turning the light on and off to keep the plants growing and the algae not, so you'll be pressing the button on top every day. And for those of you who are pretty smart out there, no, you can't hook this up to a smart plug. There's a single power cable, so if the light's off, so is the pump. You're also locked into proprietary sized filters, so have fun paying full price from the manufacturer. If you get too fed up with that, maybe someone will create a 3D model for it. The last thing I'll mention is the patented water change technology. Plenty of manufacturers do this, and all of them ignore the fact that water changes are not that hard, and once you get them down they're not that messy either. Just get a siphon and watch some of Cory's videos from Aquarium Co-Op to see how it's done. It was $60 when I ordered it, and right now there's a $10 off coupon. ... show more
