Great tank heater

My other heater stopped working, so I replaced it with this one. For the price it seems to be working very well! It took less than 24 hours to heat my Bettas 10 gallon tank from 64 😱 to 78!! It it slim and looks good in the tank. The temp gauge is easy to adjust and the light turns red while heating and when it’s to temp the red light turns off. The little thermometer strip that came with it keeps falling off and I have to keep pushing the top back on the tank. It’s not a problem though as I have a separate digital one.

This heater is great in a 10 gallon!!

I've had this heater for a few months now in my high flow 10 gallon and I'd say 15 gallons is the cutoff for warming the entire tank, unless you put the heater in the middle of your tank, then you might be able to stretch it to 20 gallons. So this type of heater, regardless of manufacturer, has a very difficult to turn knob at the top. Do so while it is out of the water and dry. All the ones I've ever owned over the years with this design (quite a few!!) have a difficult to turn adjustment knob. A huge note on this specific, aquaneat heater that is different in design: It will only turn on if it needs to!! If you didn't turn the adjusment knob and put it in a room temperature tank, it may appear 'defective' because the water is already 'warm enough'. If it is actively heating, the red light indicator will turn on, then turn off when the tank has gotten up to temp. I think some of the 'I tried it and it was defective' reviews might have just plugged it in once, didn't see a light, and unplugged it. Or were too scared to turn the adjustment knob as it does require strength. It appears to be pretty accurate, but you're going to have some variation at different areas of your tank if you have driftwood, tall height, etc. I used a bubbler near my heater and that made every corner get up to within 1 degree of the heater. The included thermometer can only give you the outerglass temperature of that specific placement area, and is sort of a ballpark measurement within 2 degrees. It's still nice to have to ensure your heater is working at a glance when the light isn't on. It hasn't let me down yet and this would be ideal, absolutely PERFECT in a betta breeding small tank. My snails crawl all over the heater when it's set to 82 and they are alive and well so accidental fraction second fish bumps seem alright. I've accidentally bumped it cleaning and it didn't hurt (submerged.) Use caution, just noting I've used similar models in breeding tanks and I'd stamp 'PERFECT SIZE AND RELIABILITY!!' onto this one for the cause!

I received my heater/thermometer strip combo today. The price point is great for what looks to be a quality product. Although the dial to adjust the temperature is a bit tight, it wasn’t hard at all to turn it to set as I’ve read in several reviews. I’d prefer it that way instead of being on the loose side for safety’s sake. Installation was a breeze. No problems whatsoever with the two suction cups. They latched securely onto the side of my tank first try and without having to apply any pressure. The heater seems to be working as it should. I have a male electric yellow lab cichlid that can handle fluctuations in temperature. I’ve had this fish for a year now and I’ve never used a heater before in my aquarium so I have it set to the lowest recommended temperature for cichlids. I will come back to update my review later when I have given this heater plenty of time to prove its functionality and durability. Its size is just perfect for my aquarium.

Don’t Buy

I replaced a water heater that I’ve had for about 3 years, I was using it in a homemade incubator to create moisture but I upgraded my beta tank and wanted to put my nice heater in the tank and get this heater to put in my incubator. I put this new one in an extra tank I had to test quality. It kept the temperature pretty consistent so I switched them and put this one in my incubator. This is kind of my fault as I should have known better then to mess with my system in the last week. But sometime after I had checked the temperature and moisture before going to bed (was perfect) the water heater went out in the middle of the night and wouldn’t turn back on the next morning. When I checked in the morning it was as dry as a desert in there and the eggs were cold to the touch (day 20) I immediately replaced the water heater with the original one and still saw a little bit of movement from some of the eggs! I was hopeful but by day 23 all of the eggs died. I’m really disappointed. I should have known better than to buy an 8$ water heater. But Regardless of price, it should have lasted longer then 2 days. I want to add that I have successfully hatched other batches of chicks before this and have never had issues.

Pretty okay!

I got both the 50w and 100w for my 10gal hospital tank and my 25gal display respectively, and I will just say that it is somewhat finicky, though once you've figured out what it fusses over it works great for the price. At first, I thought it was broken because both heaters would turn on when I plugged it in outside of water (which, by the way, you are technically not supposed to do, but I did so very briefly just to check if it would turn on) but not when submerged, until I figured out that the temperature dial has to be at the highest temperature prior to plugging in when submerged, and then you can adjust it. I do have to set the temperature a a handful of degrees higher than my target temp on my 100w heater in my 25gal as it doesn't seem to be able to heat that volume of water as accurately, but that's okay. Not much to say about the size, it fits fine and isn't too bulky, and I've positioned it behind some plants to hide it a little bit. Be careful about touching it right after it's been active, I did burn my fingers because I didn't realize it would be so hot (Again, entirely my bad! you're supposed to wait 10 minutes after unplugging to remove from water).

Great heater just Be Careful

I did not read the instructions. It looks pretty much self-explanatory. What I did was plugged it in, set the temp. It was sitting on my entertainment center for a couple minutes because I just got done cleaning the water. I picked that heater up and it burnt the crap out of my hand. I had no idea that it was gonna be hot like that. Then I was nervous about putting it in my aquarium with my fish because I thought that it was gonna burn my fish. Then I thought it will be hot to touch when it was going to be submerged in the water. So anyone who is looking into this little heater for your aquarium, adjust the temperature first, then put it in your aquarium, and plug it in. Then if you have to take it out for any reason, if you’re gonna clean the aquarium or change the aquarium or whatever, unplug it first. The instructions say to let it sit for 10 minutes after you unplug it before touching it. Just be careful.

Needs a little work

This is nice and compact and I like that it has a light to tell you when it’s running however it does fall short in a couple other areas. As other reviewers have said it’s not consistent with heating. The thermometer that comes with it really doesn’t work so don’t count on that. Unfortunately, the numbers on the top if they are under the water those numbers wipe off so then you can’t see what temperature you set it at. I’ve had it at the office for maybe a month or so and constantly I’m checking the water temperature. I have it set at 82 (I would be guessing- since no visible numbers) and the temperature stays around 78 to 79. The dial is a little difficult to turn as well. It’s very tight.
