Inside, silicon carbide crystals improve heat distribution and transfer. The strong glass tube is heat and shock resistant. This submersible heater is easy to use – just attach to the inside of the aquarium wall using the suction cup (included) in an area with good water circulation. Grabbed this unit for my veil tail Betta fish that happily resides in a 3-Gal fish tank. Since the moment I placed it in (with good water circulation), she started swimming towards it and enjoyed circling around it. I have had this water heater for a little over two months now. It turns on and off just like it says and it keeps the water temperature in the proper range. Highly recommend.

    • Heats to close to 78F, has some heat spreading to keep from being too hot in any one spot
I wish it were adjustable, but it's not. So far it's worked well, although I have it connected to an external temperature controller that will cut power if it gets too hot. That's because I've read that the thermostat in these cheap heaters can occasionally break and they can overheat the tank and kill fish. I use it in a 5.5g tank and it's fine. I may upgrade to an adjustable heater, though, since my Betta would probably prefer 79-80F. ... show more

Nice simple heater. All you have to do is plug it in and it does the rest. It keeps the water at or around 78 give or take a few degrees. I have bought a few for my tanks and will buy more when needed.

    • Stopped working almost immediately
I put this in my 10-gallon tank and it only worked for a few days. Then the tank temperature dropped to room temperature and the red light that indicates that it’s warming the water stopped turning on. If it was still working, the red light would have been on with a water temp of 71 degrees. I ended up buying a TopFin 100 watt heater of the same variety (submersible, suction cups, preset to 78 degrees) to replace it and my fishies have been warm and happy ever since.
